I thought the main house was amazing
We were put in the lodge and it was a bit dated and anyone walking past could look in would of preferred to stay in hotel itself we also thought the breakfast was expensive

The breakfast room & main dinning room are excellent.
No fan in the bedroom

There were so many layers of interest at this hotel. It’s buildings, grounds and history made it an intriguing place to stay. We had a very comfortable room in Louisa Lodge, with a lovely view over the bay. Breakfast was fantastic. We enjoyed the continental buffet on one day and excellent cooked breakfast the others. The staff were really friendly and helpful and went the extra mile, including returning something I had left behind. Parking was excellent too
A couple of evenings having dinner at the hotel would have been nice. We felt a bit tired on some days when we’d been out all day and walking into town to a restaurant was an effort.
Or a small fridge in the room would have been useful.

Wonderful building
The Louisa lodge was not as grand as the main part of the house

Location was great and property is beautiful. Louisa lodge is not as premium as Purbeck house but is clean , with spacious family room.
The garden around the house was beautiful .
The fact that the property does not offer lunch or dinner. As a family, we would have liked to stay one night for dinner.
The property is stunning but the fact that there is no restaurant + the fact that breakfast was very average makes it lose its premium standard

The breakfast was very good. It was buffet-style, with prompt, attentive staff present.
It felt like the hotel was out of bounds. You are in an annexe behind the hotel. At night, there is one receptionist that doubles up as bar staff, if you want to use the bar facilities. The drinks range offered was poor. My wine wasn't drinkable, we took our business elsewhere

The room was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Lovely gardens within the grounds and very peaceful. Staff were friendly. Parking was good. Great location for town, beach and railway station.
Needs better signage for car park entrance. Missed it and had to go round the one way system again.
Decor of the room is very dated. Windows in the room were blown. Bathroom needs updating. Couldn't get hot water to come out of the shower so had to take baths.
Walls are very thin, could hear the very loud TV in the room next-door.

Location was excellent
Yea at breakfast was lukewarm and the bed headboard needs padding

Breakfast today was limited to just continental but was a wide range available and satisfying.
Some of the windows in the room were very draughty due to age.

It could do with an evening restaurant as Swanage doesn't have a really good place to have a nice evening meal

Good choice for breakfast, with a friendly team to serve and help. Room was warm very clean and serviced daily. The location was very central to the town centre and the bay; walking was easy to all of Swanage. Convenent Parking within the grounds and near my room was good, I will use this hotel again.

The room was very clean and spacious. The breakfast was freshly cooked and had a wide selection of items to choose from. The staff did their best to be helpful in difficult circumstances but there was no manager available when we asked and during the prolonged powercut there was no means of contacting staff by internal phone system or by our mobile.
A lengthy power cut occurred during our stay lasting well over 12 hours. Consequently we had no TV or power to our room for a number of hours in the evening, however, the emergency lighting in the bedroom came on for hours during the night making it impossible to sleep. There was then no running water at all in our room the following morning, so we had to share a bucket of water brought to the room to try and wash, clean teeth etc until this was resolved. The power cut was not the fault of the staff and they tried to be helpful, however, neither was it our fault and it did spoil the first night or our 2 night break. I asked to speak to a manager in person or by phone, but they were not available.

Comfort and good breakfast

Location on the High Street was great with a large car park to leave the car. 5 minutes walk from the main part of Swanage, one way, and also 5 minutes the other way to the Black Swan pub that does great food. ( best to book )
The Louisa Lodge was so quiet and the room we had was, warm, spacious, had a large comfortable bed, with a good sized bathroom with a fantastic shower which was hot and was like being in a deluge..!!
Breakfast was fantastic with plenty to choose from which was served by friendly chatty staff on both the days we stayed.
The main house was big, clean and steeped in history. It was an old convent with fantastic décor and features which the manager was more than proud to show us around and tell us about it, too.
As you can see from above when we were there, we had nothing to complain about.
4.0 / 5.0
We were in Louisa Lodge the room was spacious and warm. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and staff very helpful. Good location and large car park.
No restaurant option for lunch or dinner. Purbeck House Hotel seemed cold and in need of a face-lift.
