this place is outstanding. even if they charge 2000usd a night is totally worth it. all Riviera maya have this ridiculous prices, but this place is totally worth it.
you have an amazing menu available all day. the drinks are make from scratch, the staff is constantly looking up to you.
the room have a lot of wonderful details, from the outside shower, to the full mini bar.
leave this place was the worst part 😅

This was our second stay, and it was even more amazing than the first. The rainforest vibe feels very private and secluded. The villas are very comfortable and well appointed. Our villa had a beautiful outdoor shower, private pool, plus a large bath inside, and the bed and furnishings were all very comfortable. The nature of the individual accommodations means there’s never many guests around. The service is exceptional in every area. The food is excellent also. And there’s almost never any children around! This is literally the only place we will ever stay on the whole east coast of the Mayan Peninsula.
At times the rave-style music from the neighbouring resort was obtrusive, but only during the day. But it’s difficult to escape that anywhere along this coast.

small boutique feel. wonderful spa.
poorly managed. my room was right next to the pool area during the same week as a large wedding. they should have required the wedding party to do a buy out. they took over the facility for more than half of my 5 night stay. the two day festivities were LOUD. Loud talking, loud music. The night of the wedding reception, the reception music was so loud I could not hear phone calls or even movies. And they ran late into the night so there’s nothing you can do but suffer. I came to the viceroy for peace and to restore. It was anything but that. Yes. they gave me one night free but that was after going off on the night manager. They should have been falling over themselves to accommodate the guests that were suffering through the several days of someone else’s wedding festivities. Also the hotel has 41 villas/suites. The wedding guests easily took over more than half.

The location was excellent.
Fried eggs were very badly cooked probably by someone with no cooking skills. The coffee was luke warm each day and very seldom was it served with sugar and sweeteners. The bread you serve is really appalling US supermarket type bread. I was told it was made on the premises. If this is so you need to employ someone who makes real bread. Why no fresh orange juice? Oranges out of season? I think it's the middle of the season in December.

We have stayed 5 nights at the hotel for our honeymoon in the superior villa with the private pool.
To start with, the welcoming staff was extremely nice and we loved the personal touch with handmade soaps and mezcal tasting ritual at the arrival.
The villa was even bigger than expected, beds are comfortable.
we had a very good spa experience; highly recommended.
Loved the privacy and overall feeling of the place.
Since the hotel has the “jungle” concept we were ready to have some “visitors” during the night just as our previous accomodation in Tulum; which was conceptially fine. However our experience in Viceroy was rather traumatic for me.
At the first night, I woke up with some sort of scratching noise followed with a couple of animal footsteps and when I looked up, I saw a beaver rushing out of the roof. That was sleepless nights all the way for me. The hotel manager was very helpful and placed us in another villa for the night and promised to have the gaps in the roof filled by the morning however every night, hearing animals walking and making noises above us kept me sleepless as I was not sure if we will have another animal inside; again.
Also as the insulation is the issue by the nature of the how villas were built, be ready for extremely loud music from another hotel or club nearby (not sure) until 2:30am on Saturday.
The other days they stop by 9-10pm.
Another unexpected feature from a luxury resort is the staff around the pool area.
They are constantly next to you to ask you whether you would like something to eat or drink up to a point that becomes very disturbing. I have seen many comments about how attentive they are and how wonderful their service is so it may be a cultural thing for me to feel like this behaviour was more for being pushed for “consuming” rather than “being taken care of”.
The hotel has a romantic setup with a calmimg atmosphere, I don’t want someone constantly interrupting my space and time to ask what I would like to drink more.

The hotel is beautiful, from the spacious villa room to the pool and public areas. Everything is done very very well. The staff are lovely, arranged everything for us and had great recommendations. And lots of great little touches like surprise balloons and cocktails for my partner’s birthday. Really wonderful place.
The only thing I can think of to bear in mind is this is a small boutique place, and although you’re not far from Playa del Carmen it’s also quite isolated. As a result, the food/menu options are a bit more limited than they obviously would be at a larger resort. That’s ok and the food was great, but you might be hoping for more variety.

Viceroy exceeded any expectations we had! The grounds were stunning and the staff were so friendly and helpful at every turn. If we could have stayed longer, we would have!
Nothing!

Beautiful location. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Possibly alcohol content of cocktails was rather weak.

You actually feel like you’re in the jungle. We had quite a few visitors to our villa including spider monkeys and raccoons. We just loved that. And the beach with the seating and eating set up spot on. Perfect for relaxation.
The staff can’t do enough to help out and make your stay as best it can be!
My only constructive criticism is that there was some leaking into our villa when it rained really hard but they came and sorted it out really quickly but maybe a more permanent solution could be put in place.

Beautiful location, very friendly staff - well most of them
breakfast great
lovely villa bit noisy with fans and adjacent staff area
lack of choices for dinner, which when it came looked fancy but totally lacked flavour - very expensive
did not like lack of choice on specialty food nights and again very expensive for what you got

service was impeccable, staff always made an effort to remember your names etc and were all friendly and helpful. beach was great, plenty of beds and loungers in front of the hotel pool. room was great, with an outsde shower and heated plunge pool.
only downsides were the costs of the massages in the spa, which whilst fantastic, were three times the cost of what you could get on the beach 50 yards away. it was also slightly painful booking some scuba diving, which we eventually did, which again was great with a top divemaster but the price was very expensive as the hotel took a commision.
