The location was good and the size of the room was nice and there were clothes hangers in the cupboard but there is little else to recommend this place.
The room was over 30C when we arrived and the window was locked so we could not open it to cool the room; the only external ventilation was a small open quarterlight in the bathroom. The double bed was the smallest I have seen in a long time and it was supposedly a three person room but had only two chairs. All of the power points were behind furniture so you had move furniture to access them.
But the worst thing was the shower; it was hand held and almost impossible to get to the correct temperature. The hot water took several minutes to warm up and when you did final get the tiny amount of cold added to the meagre water pressure, it fluctuated between scalding hot and freezing cold.
At £120 per night this was outrageous.
The piece de resistance though was in the morning when we came down for breakfast (included in the price). Even though we had received a message stating that breakfast was from 8am-10am on Saturdays, when we got down at 9:20am we were informed breakfast finished at 9:15am, on a Saturday!

Breakfast was ok
Wasn’t told about room change so we went in room and someone was already in there, not a great start to our break. Signs saying shut windows but dont close

Poach egg was ok. Bed was ok.
It was very impersonal, all key pads no staff on site. It was more like a hostel than a B&B, staff only in to do breakfast. Room had cobwebs hanging from ceiling and bedside lamps. Black mould in shower, which we did not use. Breakfast bowls were not clean, I picked up 2 and there was still food residue on them. Electrical items had very out of date PAT tests on them.

The breakfast service was good. Location was excellent and was a short walk into the city centre, and on the spot parking was great although you have to get there early.
I requested a room with a bath, and they were unable oblige as apparently there was only one room with a bath and that was taken. Breakfast was very average, poor choice of starters (cheap sugary cereals. There were printed notices everywhere instructing guests what they could and couldn’t do, making it seem like a hostel. A little recognition that people staying there are guests and not just nuisance visitors.

I had booked a top-floor single with shared bathroom, but they upgraded me to a 1st floor twin with ensuite, for which I am most grateful. The building has character. Room clean, bed comfortable, adequate furnishings and tea/coffee facilities (but no teaspoon!). My room was at the front, but little or no traffic or other noise. Windows opened enough to let in some fresh air. Good hearty English cooked breakfast. 10-minute walk to the Cathedral and town centre.
The room door was on a heavy spring and could do with a pull-handle inside. Some damp patches on the outside wall. No chair in the room, and some furniture was shabby. Toilet cistern juddered noisily for several seconds when refilling, just before the float-valve closed, which was quite alarming. At breakfast there were branded cereals but no muesli, yoghurt, croissants or honey. Those who prefer a continental breakfast would have to go elsewhere.

Nothing, this needs taking off your choices
everything the bedding was a disgrace

Not having the tea and coffee replenished

Breakfast and staff service
Sloping ceiling made it awkward for room. Location of power point behind metal wardrobe. Top floor bathroom needs renovating and big Crack in roo 12 ceiling

The excellent Breakfast
As I was not en-suite, and you could not leave the door unlocked, you had to remember to take the lock code with you when you went to the bathroom

I loved being in the turret room. I had requested a room with a bath, and the water was lovely and hot for me but easily adjusted for my husband, who likes a cooler shower. Unfortunately, towels had been forgotten. Even though there isn't anyone on site, we messaged the hotel and had towels delivered before we got back from dinner. In the morning, we needed to leave before breakfast started. We spoke to the hotel before our visit, and they had arranged for a takeaway breakfast sandwich for us. We saw the staff in the morning, and they cooked up 2 amazing sausage, bacon, and egg sandwiches and delivered them to our room. It was really nice to have an outside seating area set up with ashtrays, so we had some where comfortable to have to smoke.
None of these minor issues would stop us from staying again!
There are some minor maintenance/ decorating issues, wallpaper pealing. It was obvious there had been a leak above the bed as there were brown water stains and a poor repair job. The bed and mattress looked quite old and in need of replacing. My husband, who is a larger gentleman, could feel the bed base through the mattress. I didn't experience this and had a comfortable night, although it's our preference to have 2 pillows each and only 1 per person was provided. We noticed as we were going to bed, so there was no opportunity to resolve this. Even with staff on site, we would have just gone to bed and made do.

Fantastic location, breakfast was great and the room had everything we needed.

We booked this last minute. The rooms matched the photos. The bed was comfortable, and the lounge area; which I didn't know about, was well furnished and a welcome surprise.
Great shower.
There was no reception, but you got a code which worked well. Instructions were very clear, and breakfast was included. Servers were very nice to talk to.
There were phone charger points on the plug sockets by the bed, which was handy as we had no plug.
There was an extra plug-in heater, which was helpful as our clothes got soaks so we could dry them hanging in a closet with the heater
Having to leave.

The shared bathroom was not a problem at all as there was also a sink in the room and the hotel was quiet.
There were tea and coffee making facilities, biscuits and a TV in the room.
Breakfast was good, with fresh ingredients and quickly served.
The ceiling height was not a problem on the top floor as the room was thoughtfully arranged.
I would have liked to be nearer my venue. However walking through town around 11pm was not a problem and the price was good.

The experience was superb and we felt right at home. The bedroom was very cosy and right what we were looking for. We liked so much that we had to extend our stay at the Castle Lodge ;-)
We loved everything.

Great biscuits in my room, complementary. Warm room. Nice breakfast.
I have no complaints.

Location was perfect, my room was cosy and warm. Very good value for money
Sharing Toilets but I managed and also I knew I had to share toilets.
Next door room I could hear snoring and it's nobody's fault 😃

Nice quiet and clean quirky little hotel, clean room well presented, breakfast order was taken and delivered in a friendly and warm manner, definitely going to be staying again,
If you are looking for a hotel with character and charm, try this place. Good value for money.
Shared bathroom on the top landing was very clean but it's in need of a little bit of updating,
Apart from that, not much more needs doing.
There's a few creaking floor boards but it's expected in an older building.

Room 16 28/9/22
Would not stay here again even if offered a free stay.
Spent first hour plus after arrival cleaning to make room hygienic enough to use (mainly bathroom).
Worst of them were shower trap full of slimy gunge and hair (needs screwdriver to remove remainder); sink plughole and waste trap clogged up with slimy gunge. Towel rail bottom rungs and top of light above mirror caked in dust.
Cobwebs and dust all over bathroom, bedroom, skirting, door recesses and rails. Still left are those under and above the bed, behind bed and tea table, up high and behind settee.
No hot water to bathroom from when we arrived (at around 17.00) until we were awoken at around 06.00. Heating not on in room (but used portable oil filled radiator supplied in room). No lighting down dark hallway to room. Right next to dining room and awoken at 06.00 by trips with dining trolley rolling along floors bringing in jugs of juice, cereals etc, along with opening drawers to get cuttlery out and setting tables, moving tables and chairs etc. on wooden floor
Breakfast was good, freshly cooked and lady serving very nice and accommodating.
Usually stop at place which is 3 mins walk away which is excellent, and stayed there the night before (27/9/22) but online booking sites only had room for the first night of our 2 night stay although on arrival we found they did have room for us to have stayed the 2nd night. With all the notices all over premises about still maintaining sanitation everywhere for Covid-19 (no sanitiser in front door lobby before entry though), posesa dichotomy when visibly obvious hygiene, sanitation and cleaning practises have been ignored.
No one on site except at breakfast so difficult to resolve any issues at the time.
No problems with parking in and around the premises which was welcome.
At over double the price of 6 months ago RO Britain indeed.

Easy to check in and out with door codes etc
Bed was a little rickety and noisy but still slept good

Breakfast could be served later at the weekend finishing @ 9.15 too early for us so we didn’t have it
Later check out and breakfast

It was a quirky hotel with no staff on duty, only at breakfast. The bed was a bit soft and the slopping roof was a bit low but for one night it was okay. The breakfast was fine and the shared facilities were manageable for one night.

Key code on entrance did not work first time had to wait 5 mins then did not work again, eventually got in. when flushing toilet sounded like a nordic horn was playing, must have upset other guests. beds were really creakey, kept us awake as was in twin room.
