The location in Egmont National Park and the nearness to many walking tracks.
The bed was excellent.
All staff were very nice and professional.
The automatic chemical fragrance dispenser. I did not expect this in a motel in the heart of nature. There are countless natural fragrance alternatives to use. We unplugged the dispenser, put it outside and aired the room for hours but still the smell (very unpleasant)remained heavily in the room. Just one straight backed chair in the room. Nowhere to sit and relax other than the bed.

The food at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast was lovely and the staff were very friendly. Spa bath was also very nice. The mountain with a sprinkle of snow was so beautiful.
I thought the restaurant was just a bit too warm inside. But it was certainly better than being too cold :)

Location perfect for undertaking trail walks and, if you're lucky, a beautiful view of Mt Teranaki behind the lodge. Lovely spacious room in beautiful natural environment.
Unless you have all your own food, eating at the Restaurant is quite expensive but the meals were good. Didn't realise they don't open Monday or Tuesday so, staying Sunday night, there was no breakfast Monday morning. The rooms had huge floor to ceiling sliding doors but the coverings were roller blinds so if you wanted to close the blinds while you were out, you have to navigate a big roller blind as you came back. Very awkward - don't know why they don't have block out curtains instead.

Really comfortable stay in a beautiful location. The property is located inside the national park, so it is easy to access great trails for day hikes. The on-site restaurant is fantastic, both for dinner and breakfast. Also a very nice room!

Peter and his staff made our stay the most amazing experience we could have imagined. Our trip was centered around our summit of Mt Taranaki, and staying at the lodge just completed what was an incredible weekend in Taranaki. Amazing people, fantastic food, clean, comfortable and warm room - perfect!
Nothing to complain, just a little gem of a place !

Friendly host, superb location, attentive staff, great food in the restaurant. Continental breakfast provided on request. Checking out arrangements very straightforward. The setting on the lower slopes of a dormant volcano was the icing on the cake.
Everything was just as I would have wished - thank you.

The staff at Ngati Ruanui Stratford Mountain House were friendly, welcoming and efficient. The beds were very comfortable and the spa bath relaxing.
The location is great for accessing some lovely walks on Mount Taranaki, with a little stroll down through the bush to their great restaurant which serves quality food and wine.
A clear view of the mountain from the lawn beside our unit was a bonus.

The hotel rooms were very comfortable and clean- although we would have liked another chair to sit in. The management were very helpful and friendly. Unfortunately we had bad weather but the manager suggested a walk for us which was great.
We left before breakfast as 9am is too late and there weren't any other options.

Comfortable bed, good food
Terrible shower pressure, no long mirror in the room no iron in the room and when we went to use the iron in the laundry room we were met with staff that made us feel less then welcome to use this facility . The owners rushed us when ordering drinks etc...and pretended to be helpful but you could tell they didn't really give a toss about customer relations just how much money you owed them. We heard the owner telling off a staff member in front of the patrons. One of the guests with us was told across the other side of the bar to pay her bill in front of a room full of customers.
This is feedback the owners should reflect on to improve the stay for those who are not locals.

We couldn’t fault our stay. The reception, friendly staff who went the extra mile despite being short-staffed by Covid, and our room was very comfortable. The meal was beautifully presented and delicious. The mountain house exceeded our expectations and we would love to return one day.
