About this apartment rental
AWESOME! 180º UNOBSTRUCTED OCEAN /SUNSET VIEWS! BEACHFRONT! LIGHT, BRIGHT, AIRY, AND SUPER CLEAN CONDO! LEGAL VACATION RENTAL. NO RESORT FEE. FREE PARKING IN GATED LOT FREE iNTERNET/WiFi This unit has not been remodeled as recently as our other condos—THE RATE REFLECTS THAT! It has carpet instead of tile and a queen bed rather than a king bed as our other units have. Although the condo is "dated," it has all the same amenities and equipment, and is SUPER CLEAN just like the rest of our condos. So if you are looking for a squeaky clean condo at a lower rate right on the beach but don’t need fancy—this might be just the perfect condo for you.
**PLEASE NOTE--NO CENTRAL AC--HAS PORTABLE AC IN BEDROOM, BUT IT WILL NOT COOL OTHER AREAS. WE HAVE CEILING FANS, STAND FANS, AND GREAT CROSS-VENTILATION ALONG WITH WONDERFUL TRADE WINDS (MOST OF THE TIME--NO GUARANTEES ON TRADES).
. PLEASE let us know you are OK with AC status when you request to book this "dated" condo.
When we say BEACHFRONT, we mean absolute beachfront! The PRINCESS BUILDING sits smack dab on the beach in the photo! It's the most beautiful beach on Oahu.
A secured 16-story building (2 elevators) with pool, hot tub, tennis, outside BBQ area, Rec Room with ping pong table. This condo is on a mid-level floor.
This is a one-bedroom/one-bath (shower/tub combo) condo. It has a lovely lanai with unparalleled 180º ocean/sunset view. Lanai sunshade.
Queen bedroom and queen-size sleep sofa in living room. Fully furnished full-size kitchen with full-size appliances (fridge has icemaker) and all the necessities. We supply all dishes, pots 'n pans, silverware, toaster, regular drip coffeemaker (we furnish filters), microwave, and a blender for making those onolicious Hawaiian fruit smoothies. We also have a dishwasher, 2 TVs, ceiling fans, stand fans, washer/dryer, iron/board, all linens (including beach towels), hair dryer, beach chairs, mats, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach umbrella, and cooler. The spices in the condo vary—some guests buy new and leave-so we never know exactly what is there—best to check first and then buy accordingly. We even provide binoculars for in-condo use--watch right from your lanai as the whales (in season), dolphins, and giant sea turtles put on a show!
THE PRINCESS IS A SMOKE-FREE COMPLEX! Smoking is NOT ALLOWED in the units, on the lanais, in/at the corridors, elevators, pool, rec room, BBQ area, or in the lobby! Smoking is permitted ONLY in designated smoking area with umbrella table and chairs located well away from the building.
No animals of any kind permitted at the Princess.
Out of respect for our neighbors, some of whom are full-time residents who treasure their peace and quiet, and others are vacationers who want a quiet period of relaxation, we allow no visitors. Only the registered guests may occupy condo.
We require a Rental Agreement with a simple, short basic information form that needs to be filled out, signed, and returned to us before Arrival Info is e-mailed to you. This document will be e-mailed to you immediately after confirmation.
Makaha is on the NON-TOURISTY side of Oahu--very much "OLD" Hawaii--nothing new or fancy here! Our location is out on the beautiful Leeward Coast with its incredible beaches. This is NOT a touristy location, and it is about a 45-minute to an hour's drive, depending entirely on traffic, to Waikiki & Honolulu.
ALL MAJOR ATTRACTIONS ARE A LONG DRIVE FROM CONDOS.
ALL HAWAII BEACHES ARE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC; however, since there is not much public parking in the area, our beach is generally not crowded. The Princess has NO control over who uses this beach. There are homeless camps along the coast island wide, but not on our beach.
Makaha has lots of fast food and ethnic restaurants (be sure to try BEACHHOUSE 604, a guest favorite where you can eat outside by the ocean--watch for the dolphins). Spicy House in Maili has wonderful Thai food, and it not too far from condo.
There is fine dining only 20 minutes away at Ko'Olina and Au'Lani Disney Hotel. Kapolei is about 20-25 minutes away, and has MANY great restaurants and really nice shopping. There is a water park in Kapolei. All drive times are subject to time of day and traffic of course.
World-famous Makaha Surfing Beach (home to international surfing competition) is just a very short hop down the coast from the condo.

The view was Breathtaking! We felt right at home and are already planning our next Vacation.

In the late afternoons and early evenings, the condo is unbearably hot. We had to retreat to the bedroom each afternoon for the air Conditioning. The breeze is not enough to cool the condo. We were miserable each evening

Property was clean, well-stocked, and the beach was amazing! Property management was very responsive to questions. It was a quiet area away from the Waikiki frenzy.

Beautiful views, fun ocean waves, rooms are clean but small. The temperature was perfect, nice breeze every night. Good location to lots of other beaches

I was in town to visit my Mom who was recovering from a stroke. The property was perfect! It was worth the drive to that side of the island. The view was beautiful, we saw a seal swimming along the shoreline playing. The beach wasn’t crowded and everything is exactly as described! The owners are completely transparent on any construction( wasn’t bothersome at all as you are gone most of the time) Owners are also very helpful and quick to respond. I have to come back multiple times to help my Mom so hoping I am lucky enough to be able to stay here again! Mahalo Nui Loa!!

Everything was smooth, as-advertised, and done well--comfortable, well stocked kitchen and beach-toys; killer breeze, view, local suggestions, and communication. If we get back to the island we'll definitely return.

I don't like being so critical, but honestly I really wish we had stayed somewhere else and we would not stay here again. A few positives first though before the reasons we didn't like the place.
The beach is nice, it is a bit steep if kids can't swim, but for our kids they had a blast. Snorkeling is available right off the beach. Great view of sunsets, turtles, sea lions, etc... Everything is 'right there'.
However, we would not stay here again because:
The first reason is all the rules, I've never stayed in a place that was so ridiculous. Don't sit on the bedspread, don't use the air conditioner during the day, don't unplug any plugs, don't dry your bathing suit on the lanai, take out your trash every day, wash and fold the sheets before you leave, the list just goes on and on with signs everywhere in BOLD UNDERLINES 'DO NOT'. It was far more like staying in a crazy relative's place and following their rules as a guest instead of feeling like a paying customer.
Second, there was construction almost every day that was not disclosed in the listing. No relaxing on the lanai for us with the ocean sounds drowned out by reciprocating saws.
Third, we definitely overpaid. The place is listed as 'dated', but it is neglected. The place was gross and super worn. How hard would it be to use a magic eraser on the bathroom door or cabinets, there was a two inch brown trim of filth around the edges. Everything was very worn, pans were bent, Tupperware leaked, glasses broke.
There was even a leak in the place when we were there and the maintenance staff moved the ceiling panels to access it - but they didn't put it back and one of the tiles fell and hit my daughter. The maintenance philosophy is definitely wait until it breaks to address.
Finally, the neighborhood is advertised as 'locals', but it is definitely not nice. Lots of broken down cars and trash in the yards. Tons of homeless. In fact when we snorkel from the beach, we had to navigate the homeless camp's fishing lines.
Overall, this is a cheap, budget ocean view location, but we've stayed at other ocean view, beach front rentals in Hawaii with the same budget and they were way nicer than this. We overpaid and could have gotten so much more for our money.

This place was awesome! The views off the balcony were superb. My wife and I enjoyed our 30th anniversary there for a week. We spent a couple days seeing other parts of the island and were very glad to get back to the cozy condo and the amazing beach. Snorkeling was great and the beach was perfect. We will definitely go back to the same location. The owners were fabulous to work with and very quick to respond with any issues. We loved it.. and will be going back.

This was a perfect condo for 2people. It had everything we needed with an excellent ocean view. Rarely more than a handful of people on the beach. Some neighbors played their conch shells each sunset. We saw several whales. The beach gets deep very quickly and has a strong riptide, so probably would not be the best location for young children or their aging grandparents. We loved it so much, we want to return for longer next time.

We had a great stay here . Condo was nice and was stocked with the necessitys. The view was BREATH TAKING !!! The location is about an hour from all the hustle and bustle so the beach was not packed with ppl . It was a great place to stay

The condo was everything we didn't even know we needed! A phenomenal view, delicious trade winds blowing through, gorgeous sunsets and front row seating to daring early morning surfers, super clean and comfortable! The pool was refreshing, we watched the sunset from the beach and had nightly ping pong tournaments! Nearby notable restaurants were the Beach House at 604 and Coquitos. The Maxwells have thought of every detail to make sure you feel at home. From snorkel gear to beach towels and then some, you name it, they thought of it. Breakfast on the lanai was what we will miss most the breeze, the view… !!. Of course, Hawaii in and of itself is an amazing place but the Maxwells have gone above and beyond to make you feel like you belong there. We can’t say enough about how much we appreciate all you’ve done to make our first trip memorable!! Mahalo!!

Excellent property on a beautiful beach
I am so happy with our decision to book this property. The condo was clean and well stocked with anything you would need for a beach vacation. The breeze kept the place cool and the views were exceptional. I would gladly visit again and highly recommend to others.

Would certainly come here again.

Wonderful location with great views
We recently stayed at the condo and were very happy with our experience. The place is dated but it honestly didn't matter. The condo itself had everything you would need for a weeks stay and everything worked as expected. The host was extremely helpful with preparation for our trip and provided a lot of great information on local restaurants and locations of interest. The views off the balcony are amazing and the location wasn't too far away from major tourist areas in Honolulu and Waikiki area. We'd definitely stay here again.

Out West
This is a tiny condo on the 7th floor of a 16 story, 40 year old building. Only one of the two elevators worked while we were there. The apartments are considerably varied. Ours was one of the least renovated, we were told. The kitchen is furnished with original cabinets and appliances. The carpeting is probably the most dated, and the numerous laminated and posted signs, "Never..." "Don't..." gave it the most unfriendly vibe of any VRBO property we have rented.
That said, everything in the kitchen--dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, microwave, coffee pot--all worked. (Toaster requires a little attention.) And when something didn't work, we got a response and resolution within a few hours.
Still, we spent little time in the kitchen. The views above the raging Pacific were incredible. From the lanai, we could watch sea turtles in the crests of waves and whales in the distance. The beach is just below and, if you don't mind heights, it's always spectacular.
The mountains of west Oahu are pretty spectacular, too. But this is where the road ends and it's not anything like Waikiki. If you have already done the tourist stuff, this might be perfect for you.

To me this is the best side of the island.. Private BEACH , snorkeling equipment, great water pressure. Killer views. Killer breeze never used the AC… security was awesome. Surfing Makaha and Tracks was Epic.. but don’t tell anyone!

Trip of a lifetime
We finally made it to Hawaii and this beautiful Condo with the view and perpetual wave sound was the "end of the rainbow". We are so glad we opted out of a Honolulu stay and found the Hawaiian Princess at Makaha. Mahalo to Pat and Don.

Cozy place
Nice out off the city place to stay. Air conditioning is lacking but the trade winds aNo fans help. Every night you are gently snoozing away with the sound of the waves. Amenities are adequate, could have stayed here all day just relaxing.

Lots of whales
Great whale watching, also turtles and rays. Beach is beautiful and uncrowded. Mostly easy to take day trips to other parts of the island, beware of traffic revisions and rush hour.

Excellent location
We had a wonderful week in the condo. The beach is beautiful, clean, private and not at all crowded. We enjoyed the view of the beach and surrounding hills from the balcony especially the sunsets. Compared to the other beaches we visited on the island this must be one of the best. The owners were very nice to us and gave very detailed directions to the condo and how to check in and out. The building was safe. If I have to say anything negative it's that the condo needs to be updated, but it was very clean, had everything we needed and wasn't an issue for us. We will definitely come back again, hopefully in the near future.

Hawaiian Princess more than we expected!
I've been to Oahu countless times, but this was my first visit to the Mahaka area. We will be back! It's a real nice country feel.
We were met by Mitch and Don and they helped us take our luggage and even groceries into the condo, which was really helpful! They showed us around the place, which was so very reassuring as we began our adventure.
The beach is amazing and we loved the trail at the end of the island which took us out to the point where we saw monk sea lions and albatross.
The condo was perfect for the two of us with plenty of room. Nothing whatsoever was negative about this stay. We give it a ten!

Serenity
I wanted "real Hawaii" and was so pleased with this VRBO. This rental is a hidden gem far away from the traffic and noise of Honolulu. Older, dated unit but very clean and well stocked. The beach is lovely as are the rainbows, sunsets and we were lucky with a full moon. We enjoyed the area. No glamour and glitz. Lots of fast food. No fancy restaurants. Several good hikes and a very fun grocery store to explore. I would willingly spend more time here.

Can't beat view
We stayed for 3 nights and didn't leave the complex during this time, so can't comment on the neighborhood amenities, etc.
The view from the lanai and rear outdoor hallway facing the mountains, along with the close proximity to an amazing beach are the 5 star selling features of this property. Of the 2 full days spent on this beach, we were fortunate to have 1 calm day allowing for one of the best snorkeling experiences I have had on Oahu in 3 visits. There was an abundance of sea life including a few turtles and a spotted Eagle Ray. Also very few people on the beach. When the surf is up the currents are strong and not for the timid swimmer.
The sound of the crashing waves filled the entire condo making the experience even more memorable. This was a real bonus in combating against the abnormally loud roosters in the parking lot. I've stayed in remote areas of the north shore and the Northeast side of the island and have never experienced roosters this bad. I honestly wondered if there was something wrong with them as they would go on and on for hours during the day/evening and very early hours of the morning, long before the sun rose. We ended up sleeping in the living room closer to the sounds of the ocean as a result, and because of the cool ocean breeze didn't need the A/C.
The mattress in the bedroom is on the firmer side. Did not sleep on the pull out couch, but rather the floor mats provided. I found them more comfortable than the bedroom. You could sleep right on the lanai for a true outdoor feel.
For amenities, a large bar of soap in the bathroom and dish soap were provided. You will want to bring small garbage bags, shampoo, tinfoil, parchment paper, syran wrap, as you may or may not have these things unless a prior guest leaves them behind.
Note the pool was not heated and the spa holds a max of 6 people at a time. The view of the mountains and greenery while swimming in the ocean was a real plus and something I haven't experienced in Waikiki, on the north shore, or the Northeast side of the island. Another positive to this location of the island is that it tends to be a bit warmer and dryer.

Serenity on the Ocean
This condo was excellent with an ideal location on a peaceful cove. It was very quiet and relaxing and we enjoyed the magnificent sunsets. The neighborhood was a little disappointing as there were no restaurants or shops nearby and driving had to be carefully timed to avoid bumper to bumper traffic. The unit, itself was well managed and lived up to our expectations.

It doesn't look real. The reality is better than someone could Photoshop!
Everything was exactly as advertised and more. We did not sleep in the bed. They have futon mattresses you can put on the lanai (balcony) and we slept there every night. The breeze and ocean sounds were amazing. I did keep waking up just to look out at the ocean.
What a view! Every day we would sit there in the morning just watching the sky and ocean change with the sunrise. The sunsets were amazing. I just checked and we have 205 pictures and videos of just the sunsets. It seems the sky and water change every minute. The panoramic views were great but the time lapse video was the best.
The second day we are there, we are watching the ocean in the morning and see a small sea turtle swimming just a few feet off the beach. We could see it perfectly from the lanai with our bare eyes. There is a set of binoculars in the closet if we want a closer look. It was so clear we just sat there. We were able to video them using our phones! 36 videos and pictures of sea turtles. We saw them every day after that. Saw 3 together one day.
There is so much to do on Oahu it was difficult to find time to just sit on the beach. We went on a drive and ended up at a small coffee farm. From there we were a couple miles from the Dole plantation. Gift shop is amazing there and you must try the Dole Whip. A day spent on the Kualoa Ranch was great. We did the Premier Movie Tour and Ocean Tour. The Premier Movie tour first stop is the Indominus Rex pen. Enough said. The next day I went snorkeling without a cage with sharks. One Ocean Diving is worth every penny. I was in the water with 10 Galapagos sharks. Of course we went to Pearl Harbor. It is everything it should be.
The food in the area looks like all fast food until you dig deeper. Staxx was great. The owner talked to us and answered many questions about the culture as well as sports.
We had to buy more iCloud space while we were there to hold all of the pictures on my wife's phone. That did not include my camera or the GoPro. Speaking of the GoPro, I accidentally left it in the bag of snorkeling gear the owners provide. As soon as we found out I let the owners know. They contacted housekeeping who contacted the current guests and found it. The owners mailed it to us right away. There are good people everywhere.
We were hopeful but not sure when we booked it. We were convinced it was a great decision to stay at the condo before we left.
The worst part of the experience was the flight back. We hated to leave.

I didn't want to leave!
We split our vacation into two parts. Half on the west side and half on the north shore. The idea was to allow us to visit all the areas we wanted while cutting down on some of the drive time. This was where we stayed for the 1st half. We were greeted by the property owner on site and he gave us the grand tour and details on the property and what was expected from us. He was personable and up front. While we were there we needed more trash bags and he had them to us within minutes! Very attentive and willing to help. The owners provided a multi page info sheet that listed their favorite attractions, places to eat and shop, etc. We so much appreciated that! They have been residents for many years and know the island very well. Having that info sheet was so helpful. They also provided all the beach gear you could possibly need, ice chests, boogie boards, beach chairs, beach towels, umbrellas, you name it. I would recommend however, if you want to snorkle, just go the first day and rent a set of mask fins and snorkle for the week. The ones left at vacation rentals are not kept in good condition and I believe in many cases prior visitors just left the cheap Walmart sets when they leave and that is what is at the rental. Don't rely on them. We were able to snorkle right off the beach in front of the unit. The pool and hot tub were clean and in good repair and we used them both. Didn't use the BBQ area except the conveniently provided hose off station located nearby. The location of this unit was EXCELLENT as far as view, breeze, sunsets, privacy, peacefulness. Loved it. It is NOT excellent if you want to spend your week here and you want to sightsee the whole island. The traffic was a nightmare a couple of times when we left in the morning. As to the breeze! The weather was warm when we were there but the breeze that we got blowing through the unit was incredible! Hearing the sound of the surf as you drift off to sleep is amazing. We ate on the balcony every evening. Kitchen is well stocked. My college aged daughter slept on the futon which she said was comfy. I thought the king bed in the master was fine but the hubby thought it was too firm. I would highly recommend renting from this owner again. Just an FYI, the unit at Turtle Bay where we spent the 2nd half of our week paled in comparison!
