The staff
Didnt tell us food choice with Elton right across street from Funky Dodo
1.5
They had a kitchen. It was well located.
The room was very warm and only had very little fans. Some of them were broken. The bathrooms didn't have lights and were always dirty. The price was way too high for what you get.
4.0
Cheapest budget hostel in Hopkins which attracted a friendly group of travellers. Good location near the beach. Free coffee in the mornings. Kitchen to make your own meals. Bars and restaurants nearby.
3.0
Good location
Cool hangout areas
Staff were a bit standoffish…
4.5
Great little hostel located close to the beach and restaurants.
Nice shared shaded spaces to hangout in the heat of the day.
Good bathroom and showers, as well as a great little kitchen to use.
Owners and staff were always at hand and keeping the place clean.
Fans we’re available for the dorms
3.5
Friendly and helpful owners who were very responsive when I mailed them.
Information at the hostel of what to do in the area (hikes and waterfalls etc) and info about transportation to other places.
Nice atmosphere.
Cute little garden with hammocks.
Almost right next to the busstop and ATM.
Beds with curtains and small bedlights. (I liked it that they don't have a big light)
Big storage drawers under the bed where you can leave and lock your big backpack.
Communal kitchen with fridge and stove.
Cheap bike rental by the hour.
Beach nearby.
Supermarket across the street.
The place is a bit rundown and could use some renovation. Although it wasn't a problem for me.
There's only 1 stove with place for 2 pans so around dinnertime it's busy and you probably need to wait before you can cook.

Great hostel, lots of nice travelers, hosts were great
wifi wasn't great
3.5
well situated almost on the beach, the cabins are small, clean and comfy with fan, kitchen facilities well equipped, the bathrooms/showers are clean, trees and flowers makes it cool. Staff is helpful
the place is a bit rundown

It's a great location. Very worthwhile to wake up for sunrise. The free coffee was also great. Staff very knowledgeable and helpful.
I didn't like it that they charge for drinking water. The fan situation in the 8 bed dorm was also not great.
1.5
the IDEA of it
rude person at desk, stagnant air, no circulation, dusty, won’t be back
4.5
This was the only hostel where I had to pay for a purified water. Wifi was not stable. There are no light bulbs in some of the bathrooms.
3.5
location
laundry facilities down, poor seating arrangements
3.5
bed in the private room was comfortable.
Wifi only worked near the hammocks in the communal area and not well!
We didn’t like the vibe there.
4.5
Good location, cool space for hanging out with hammocs & kitchen, nice owner.
2.0
location is good, kitchen is quite ok, easy to reach. hammock area is nice.
terrible bed, old and loud fans in the room, no privacy in the shower/toilet area. sinks could be refurbished. way too expensive for what you get.

I really liked the vibe in the hostel. The place looks very cute, there's a really good kitchen and always someone in reception. The location is very convenient, right by the main roads and the beach. A very clean part of the beach too. The dorm beds are spacious and with al the little conveniences like a bedlamp, locker, little shelf and curtains. I read bad things about the mattresses, but to be honest mine wasn't that bad. You feel the springs a bit, but for me it was ok.
The sliding door was a bit noisy for a dorm. I had cold showers but apparently that depends on the clouds with the solar power, for me it was fine because it was warm. I think the place would look even better if broken/decolored decorations we're taken away, but those are just small things. All in all good place with character for a fair price!

Really enjoyed my stay here. Right by the beautiful beach. Slim and Julian were legends! Hope to return one day.

Funky Dodo is an institution itself, THE backpacker stay in the Stann Creek District. It‘s in the very centre of Hopkins, near everything you need: restaurants, bars, beach, bus stop, ATM (that surprisingly worked the day we were there!). They have a small number of simple, but well kept. and equipped private rooms additional to their dorms, who group around an open kitchen and lounge area, which was always filled with life.
Located at the main street, it can get a bit noisy at night, especially around Garifuna Settlement Day.
3.0
Location, close to beach
Open air kitchen easy to use, 2 refrigerators made it easy to store food....
0pen air community room feels tropical and easy to hang out in
Plenty of showers and toilets available for the number of guests
Helpful staff
Plastic under the bottom sheet on the bed was so uncomfortable and sticky
No sharp knives in the kitchen. Even though there was a sharpener, there were mostly serrated knives which do not sharpen

The location was great, so were the common areas, especially for hanging out and socializing.
The whole place was a little bit run down. The private rooms were not soundproof at all and the bathrooms needed an upgrading. Also the parking space was limited.
3.0
Nice hammocks in communal area, good they use solar energy and rainwater for the showers
Matresses need to be replaced.
Only 2 firepits for the entire hostel.
Overall the place needs some renovations (locks need to be replaced, stains on curtains,...). Owner not extremely helpful in providing information (on tours for example).
4.0
Proper bedroom on a nice location in Hopkins.
The owners are friendly and helpful.
Nice spatious common kitchen area.
I had the feeling that the common showers/toilets only were cleaned once a day. Judging how it looked and smell, this is too little too keep it nice and clean.
4.0
No fans up there in the dorms.
4.0
Nice hostel close to Hopkins bus stop. Comfortable bed and good quiet fan close to the bed.
3.5
The owner was nice and helped us with bus information and information about the area. There is a common kitchen/fridge that you can use.
We had to change our dates as our plans changed and the owner was accommodating.
It was quite expensive for what you get. There is a kitchen but lots of signs saying that there's no oil/spices/condiments etc underlined on all the signs. There was no hot water in the showers.
We've stayed elsewhere (also in Belize, in better locations) with better facilities for much cheaper.
3.5
We really liked the location and the outside space at the hostel. The beds were also comfy and had privacy curtains.
There weren’t enough fans in the room for everyone and it was really hot. There was also quite a strong smell coming from the sea due to lots of stuff being washed up at the beach, but there was nothing that could be done about that. Sadly some of our food was stolen from the fridge.
5.0
stayed in the private room - was a big size room and looked the quirky design in the bathroom.
hang out area was lovely - enjoyed resting on the hammocks in the early evening.
staff were friendly, helpful and happy to give advice.
liked the option to refill a water bottle for a very small charge.
fresh mangoes on the trees that you could take.
good location.
