Great location, very welcoming and accommodating staff. Clean and spacious room. Lovely view!
The toilets were two floors down and away from our room.

The Onsen inside the hotel.
No parking

onsen
it wasn’t clean
3.5 / 5.0
The onsen was very pleasant and the price cant be beat. They provide heaters because the insulation isnt great.
The bedrolls and pillows could be more comfortable. The only available showers were in the basement where the onsen is. Some rooms dont have attached toilets, so again in the basement. It was very cold.

The room was well equipped with multiple quilts, a heater and all of the traditional japanese furniture. Nice and spacious with it’s own toilet and bathroom. The hostels own onsen was really nice, clean and in many ways actually better than the traditional onsens in the town.
Nothing really, the hostel is very good value for money

Onsen
There was insufficient sheets and pillow cases and it was difficult to find a staff member. When I finally found someone they were very lovely.

Onsen was great and rooms were comfy.
The kitchen could be cleaner.

The room was very wide; onsen was pleasant (and they accept tattoos). It's very cheap and the location was great, just in the middle of the town.
It was incredibly dirty! The walls are peeling off and they just cover them with pretty wallpaper. The bathroom in the room was absolutely disgusting.
The lady at the reception didn't know absolutely anything about the city (bus routes, places to go...)

The owners and staff were so kind! Made my stay very memorable. And the onsen was amazing. Gets a tad bit cold during winters but they always refilled the gas for the heater and were very helpful with recommendations. You can rent out towels and yukata for a very good price too!
Would have loved if they offered pick up and drop off to the train station, would have been happy to pay for such services!

location and value
staff was not quite friendly during reception and communication was not easy even in Janapeese. Noisy guest talking and laughing over night.

Location was great. Close to good restaurants. Staff was friendly. Onsen was amazing and makes the stay well worth it.
Futons was hard, needed a upper mattress.

You will enjoy this ruin if you’re an owl! It’s a pit. It’s a ruin. Unbelievable that Booking.com even accepts to market this place. So dirty, smelling disgusting old rotten wood. Probably full of bugs and roaches.
Everything. Especially the owner’s attitude.

I like it very much but room should be more nice because my room was little damaged
Entrance should be more nice

Price, big room
Onsen is luke warm and uninviting - I love onsen but this one turns me off completely
No aircon so room is cold during late autumn and winter
Low lighting in room
No hot water kettle in room
Must pay for use of Towels and Yukata
Not a very clean and inviting place
You have to make up your own beddings (futon, sheets, blanket, pillow case..)
Can’t use the Shibu Onsen public bath as this hotel is not affiliated.
For those not fussy this hotel could work.
It’s a shame, this hotel could be a good place to stay if only it is well maintain and manage.
2.5 / 5.0
Shibu Onsen is a great area. The onsen at this hotel was so relaxing. In a good location. For a low cost hotel I was happy to have a private room, toilet and an Onsen open at any time.
My biggest complaint is that this hotel doesnt give you access to the 9 local onsen which is a famous experience. This is reserved for people staying in Shibu Onsen however this hotel hasnt got access to that and havent mentioned that in the listing. Otherwise, it was a fairly stingy hotel. Having to pay a fee for a towel is a bit excessive. I understand that its cheaper than average for the area but it did seem to cut costs in unfortunate areas. Also, the doors to the rooms arent completly solid, meaning you can hear a lot of noise from other rooms and presumably people could hear noise from mine. If I were coming back to Shibu Onsen I would be choosing a different hotel.
