Pros: it’s nice as far as it goes (though nowhere near worth the cost), with pretty views away from the main road. The jams at breakfast were delicious and the decor is quite sweet in the rooms.
It’s outrageously bad value for money for what it is - essentially a roadside hotel with nice grounds and a small cold swimming pool, vs a nice Hacienda or luxury hotel. Be careful booking the two bed chalets; ours was right next to a very busy main road and not restful at all. Oh, and the WiFi didn’t work either in our rooms, despite us asking for it to be fixed.

pretty grounds, interesting historic architecture
seemed like a step back in time 50 years or an old fashioned ranch, farm, resort.
room small but cozy - fireplace
coffee and toiletries
semi private balcony

inhospitable staff- we were not greeted upon arrival or made to feel welcome. a purported resort but the staff seemed disinterested in accommodating guests. some staff seemed confused, stressed, or annoyed although the place seemed empty. a pack of very young children hung out unattended by any adults and were playing under and around our table at dinner- moving furniture and kicking soccer balls, etc. a dog begged at our table the entire meal. the menu could use better translation - or description as neither English nor Spanish seemed to explain some items, such as a “wrapped child “ or a “gerbaud.”
We didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked.

Very quiet and nice garden
The guy at the reception tried to trick us, explaining the Mariposa Monarch was closed (it was 2pm),in order to sell us a guided tour. Fortunately, we double checked on internet and went to see the butterflies and it was not closed.

The grounds are an idyllic paradise. The owner and staff are wonderful people who have created something truly special. We were treated with great care and respect, even though we speak little Spanish (we know a tiny bit more now). The executive chef is tremendously talented. The food was visually stunning and absolutely delicious. The service was impeccable as well. Thank you to all!
Not a thing, we had a long journey from Houston and had trouble adjusting to the altitude. Be prepared and stay hydrated!

The breakfast was outstanding. Everything was freshly made and beautifully presented. I might add the friendly, professional, well-trained staff made our morning breakfasts on the beautiful terrace something to look forward to.
We also requested that the hotel arrange a tour with guide for our trip up the mountain to view the Monarch migration. Our guide, Sidhartha, who shared his background as a biologist and his love of nature made the experience even more enjoyable. Thank-you to the Rancho San Cayetano and to Sidhartha.

Good location, Wonderful grounds, beautiful gardens and walks etc. Good swimming pool. Excellent tasty breakfast
Unexceptional, and over-priced dinner. Very little choice, Odd that no wines on the menu. Shower in one bedroom did not work properly. Basic problem is that the hotel is very over-priced. (Most expensive hotel i have been in in Mexico) - and the beautiful setting and the hotel services are not worth that.

The food is extraordinary.
The gardens (12 acres) are very well maintained. The multiple trees make you breathe a peaceful environment. Rooms are cozy and very clean
