About this farm stay rental
Bayfield is a spacious, lovingly restored farmhouse with its own three acres of land and gardens with the most beautiful views over Galway Bay and the hills of the Burren National Park. It is situated on one of the loveliest sections of the 'Wild Atlantic Way' and is a five minute walk to the local sandy beach that leads onto the Flaggy Shore.
See the maxXXbayfield website for a feel of the place and more detailed information on the area.
Bayfield sleeps 12 adults and also has a 2 cots. If you are a larger group please ask about taking the extra annex next to the house which sleeps a further 2 people. It is also a perfect setting for smaller numbers and we often have couples staying who love it.
Bayfield is a very chilled place to be on holiday and sits in its own three acres of lawns, wild gardens and farmed land which makes it incredibly peaceful. 5 minutes walk away is the Hamlet of New Quay with Linnanes, one of the best pubs in Ireland serving superb sea food and fine Guinness. The house is furnished and used as a family holiday home so has everything you need and is much much more than than just a place to stay.
As well as being very spacious it is also cosy and you will feel at home very quickly whether there are two of you or a crowd. There are three en-suite king sized doubles, one twin-room and one double/bunk-room (with a double bed plus a bunk bed). A cot is also available on request. All of the rooms are spacious, comfortable and airy as is the rest of the house.
The generously sized kitchen is modern and well equipped and has a large breakfast table. Adjoining the kitchen is the spacious sitting room/dining room that sits 12 people in a very sociable area that is joined to the kitchen with a bar. The sitting room has a large wood burner and looks out onto the orchard, the Burren Hills and down to the waters of Galway Bay. There is a separate sitting room of the main one which has the TV (there is a massive collection or DVDs for both kids and adults); a third sitting area is upstairs and overlooks the fields in front of the house and Galway Bay - this only seats one and is great for quietly reading a book no matter what else is going on in the rest of the house. The two main sitting rooms are well sound proofed from the main house so ideal for noisy kids in the morning or noisy adults in the evening.
Bayfield is in the heart of the Burren National Park. The surrounding area is outstandingly beautiful and while being a perfect place to relax and do nothing the area offers a huge amount of activities and things to see and do. The near by sandy beach leads onto the stunning Flaggy Shore with a three mile coastal road that is probably one of the best strolls ever.
The location is very rural with cows and sheep grazing the fields surrounding the house. In addition to it being so rural New Quay also benefits from having the excellent seafood restaurant 'Linnane's' (under ten minutes beautiful walk from the house) and the Russell Art Gallery which serves great Tea, Coffee, Wine and Prosecco (400 meters from the house). It’s a ten minute drive to the bustling coastal villages of Kinvara and Ballyvaughan. Also within easy reach is the lively coastal town of Galway famed for its Oyster Festival, the Galway Races and the great music played in its pubs. There are superb walks right from the front door of Bayfield which are great for any level of fitness ranging from the walk around the coast to hiking in the Burren hills.
County Clare is renowned for being one of the best places in Ireland for golf and the courses of Lahinch, Gort and Drumoland are nearby. The surfing mecca of Lahinch is a short drive away as are the Cliffs of Moher which along with the Aran Islands are probably the most striking sites to see in Ireland. The Aran Islands are easy to get to from Bayfield by getting one of the regular ferries from Doolin which is about 35 minutes drive away. The Aran Islands are great to visit.
Due to the makeup of the landscape the area is famed for its flora and fauna which blossom in early spring. For historians there is the local history of the ring forts and the Neolithic tombs as well as some beautiful castles and churches. If you have kids there is a great amount for them to do in the area from crabbing at the local pier to exploring the rock pools along the Flaggy shore. It is a great place!
Bayfield is surrounded by working farmland and Bayfield’s front field is grazed by beautiful Limousin cows (these can be taken out by by request if you prefer). There is a large lawned orchard at the back of the house which is a lovely place to be on a sunny day with a very comfortable garden room leading onto it. (Bring a hammock if you have one as there are two trees ideal for hanging it in between). The BBQ overlooks the fields and trees down to the water and there is an outside terrace at the end of the garden with 360 views of the Burren.
Cars are easy to hire from the airports (Shannon being the closest). If you need group transport when at the house 'Burren Coaches' are nearby and can accommodate any size of group. Ask for details and plenty of info is kept on the Maxxbayfield website.

I cannot overstate how amazing Bayfield house is. Our multi-generational family was perfectly at home in the generous layout of the house. The annex provided a quiet and separate space for our children to have fun while the adults relaxed in the great room. Every room was appointed nicely, and the en suite bathrooms were wonderful. Everything in the kitchen is labeled well which was helpful while moving about. The outside space is just phenomenal. The yard is perfectly maintained, and I cannot describe the sense of peace that surrounds you while sitting outside. It is perfectly situated- there is a darling gallery/coffee/wine shop at the end of the road, and the Galway Bay beach is just a few yards away. Kinvara, Ballyvaughan, the Cliffs of Moher, and Doolin, with all they have to offer, are all within a 45 minute drive. The owner, Maxx, was incredibly kind and helpful and answered any questions we had very promptly. I cannot overstate what a wonderful holiday we had. Thank you, Bayfield House!

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Bayfield house - it is nice and comfortable for a party of 12 to 14. Some things would require mending (lights in the bathrooms!) and at peak times the water pressure was so low that the bedrooms upstairs had no water, but with some practice we all managed to have a shower. The area is great with many sightseeing and activity options, besides the beaches!

Bay field House was amazing. It was welcoming and comfortable for all 15 family members. Each bedroom and bath en suite was clean and cozy. The family room was huge with plenty of seating. A large farmhouse table sat almost all of us.
Loved the little reading nook on the second floor with fabulous views. The grounds were lovely and we had family pics taken on the grounds.
Short walk to the bay, Linanne’s restaurant and a relaxing stroll on the roads. Kinverra is 15 minutes away for market shopping. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. Highly recommend. The Sawyer Family

We were joined by the larger family for an afternoon and the house was a huge hit. The children loved the spacious garden and we all enjoyed the hidden patio where could all sit around the stone table and chat in the evening sun.

The property is surrounded by farms, and just minutes from the water. There is a huge backyard with a bbq, and large seating area. The family room also has lots of seating plus a table that could easily seat 14-15. The bedrooms are all big and ensuite.
Max, the owner is great. He responds within an hour, and reached out several times before and during our stay to make sure all is well.
We needed help a couple of times while staying there and the caretaker, Mike, responded immediately and came over within 10 minutes. Four generations of my family stayed here comfortably for 4 nights.

Our family loved our stay at Bayfield House and would highly recommend this property. The house was excellent for our needs. We especially enjoyed Floggy Shores and the Russell Gallery. My grandsons really loved seeing the neighboring cows. Sitting in the backyard was so relaxing. We had to contact Max a couple of times and he always responded quickly.

We just loved the property so much. Great access to the beach and the Flaggy Shore, and convenient to have Linnane's Restaurant so close by. The Great room was very roomy and had great seating and a long dining table; we used it every night. The kids frolicked in the garden every day. Highly recommended and we would visit again.

Two Weeks in Paradise
This was my third stay at the Bayfield House! My wife and I love it there. New Quay and the Flaggy Shore are so peaceful and relaxing and the house is so comfortable and accommodating. The location is great, with easy access to, among other things, the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, and Galway. In addition, the owner, Max Kenna is so responsive and helpful!
We plan to return!

A great house in an idyllic location
We were a mixed group of adults and teens and had the best holiday in New Quay! We thought the house was fantastic. It is really comfortable and equipped to a really high standard. The large garden is lovely with a great outside dining area. With the lovely Flaggy Beach down the road and loads to do in the area...... Brilliant.

What a wonderful property! Max is very easy to communicate with always got right back to me!Stayed here with 5 couples. The location was beautiful! The views from the livingroom were just spectacular the large windows made the view from every seat a joy, even when it rained the room was light & airy! The kitchen had everything you need to cook for a group, we were very happy they had compost & recycle bins! If you are from the USA like us carry over your Firestick or Roque & you can watch Netflix, Hulu etc as there is no cable tv but the WiFi works Great! We were all able to sit at dining table no problem., we cooked every morning. Stayed 4 nights. You can walk to lovely beach & Russel Gallery for wine, tea & snacks & beautiful prints to take home. Check out those cows grazing a block away! Do take your car to Linnane’s for a fantastic dinner it’s not far down the road but safer to drive , we went twice. Go while it’s still light so you can enjoy the water view. It’s a 10 minute drive to Linvarrna town for groceries & more restaurants Keogh’s was very good! Centrally located, Day trips are easy from there, Aran Islands, Doolin Caves, Galway, Cliffs of Moher etcAll beds are comfortable ! No worries, plenty of pillows too!FYI the 4th full bathroom is downstairs & next to kitchen with a locked off door to 6th king bedroom, spend the extra money & take that one too! Totally worth it!*** All-other bedrooms & baths on opposite wing of house. House is much bigger then it looks in the pictures.Bring adapters for cell phones etc. They have some games, we opted to try & do the 1000 piece puzzle of Cliffs of Moher on a rainy day, didn’t finish but had fun trying Definitely bring slippers or thick socks as owner Max recommends as floors are cold.We loved our stay and would come again! Thanks Max

What a lovely house!
What a lovely location!! We had two families with young kids, ages 2-5, for a total of 11 people. The views were amazing, beds were comfortable and the house was very spacious. There were helpful notes all over the house guiding us on how things operated, light switch locations, etc. The back yard was so inviting, we had many meals outside while the kids ran around, climb trees and explore. The cows and horses across the street were entertaining and friendly. We LOVED walking to Linnaine’s; the food was delicious, people were friendly and the kids enjoyed throwing rocks into the ocean and watching the fisherman on the dock. We had many day trips and explored the Flagg Shore and trails. Overall we absolutely loved the house, location and people and are so greatful for staying in such a great place.

Loved whole experience start to finish. All bedrooms were great. Lots of living space for extended family to spread out. Very quiet for sleeping. Walk to Linnanes that has great food and relaxed atmosphere. Whole area is so beautiful with friendly people. Highly recommend.

Wonderful family home in idyllic setting
We loved our stay at Bayview, it worked perfectly for our extended family group aged from 7 to 77. We made good use of the huge garden and the spent a lot of time hanging out in the lounge with the beautiful views out to the water. The art gallery just round the corner had great afternoon teas and prosecco and Linnanes, a short walk away had super fresh seafood and lovely outdoor area overlooking the estuary. We loved how quiet the location was, but still close enough to the local towns.
The house really was very special and we would recommend it highly. Thanks also Max for being super responsive to all our questions.

Beautiful getaway in the Burren
We stayed a week at Bayfield House, and wish we had booked two! We were 9 family members, and the house was perfect for being all together and for dispersing and finding solitude when wanted. Max and Bea made it easy to negotiate the house with many helpful notes, and rapid response by Mike the local caretaker when necessary (only once). Loved having the cows and horse so nearby. We visited many of the places Max had recommended on the website, enjoying the beautiful and wild Burren as well as the small towns, wonderful eateries, and walks along the Flaggy Shore and elsewhere. We even discovered a small ruined church and cemetery that may hold the bones of some of our ancestors! The weather was gray, but did not bother us in the least. The roads ‘round about are narrow and take some getting used to for right-side drivers, but we managed to (almost) get the hang of it. In a word: wonderful!!!

Amazing stay at Bayfield!
Bayfield is just as advertised and more! Large home with wonderful views and proximity to sights. If you easy access to Galway this is not the place. Gakway is about 40 min away but the good news is that it is away from the maddening crowd. We wanted a quiet getaway.
Linannes doen the road by easy walk is superb. Flaggy Shore is amazing. I am a birder and was loving the Terns, Curlews, and OysterCatchers!
We had 13 people including 5 kids from 2 to 10...they loved it.
Yvonne the neighbor cooked a wonderful seafoor feast complete with Irish music. It was memorable!
A heads up...internet is good but really only works in the main living area...access to rooms would be nice. Also...the TV is for DVDs... there is not cable ....that would be nice.
We loved Bayfield...you will too!

A Wonderful Week at Bayfield House
We recently returned from an extended family vacation at Bayfield House. It was a magical week in a beautiful setting. Yes, it is as wonderful as it is portrayed in the photos. The house is well furnished and perfect for a large group of 13. We had plenty of space and never felt as though we were on top of each other. The kitchen had all we needed and more. You could spend your whole vacation without leaving the property. There are gorgeous views of Galway Bay, lush green fields, and the rugged Burren.
Maxx, the owner, always responded quickly, and Carmel helped with any questions about the house. We had 2 lovely dinners prepared by Yvonne who lives nearby and they were outstanding. The seafood feast she prepared is unforgettable.
New Quay is a perfect location for touring also. Nearby is Galway, Connemara, Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher, and so many more. It was difficult to make ourselves leave the beauty and comfort of Bayfield House each day to see them all. Last, but certainly not least, there is a wonderful seafood Restaurant, Linnane's, just a ten minute walk away. We had many delicious meals there. Bayfield House offers the perfect combination of a remote and isolated setting with outstanding dining and sightseeing nearby. We hope to return again to this exceptional home.

We loved it here! This beautiful true Irish cottage was amazing! It had plenty of room for the 10 of us, the views and location was awesome, and the locals were very welcoming. We split our trip up but wished we would have stayed here the whole time! We are so thankful that they shared this beautiful property with us!

Heaven on the Flaggy Shore!
We have just returned from five days in heaven on earth -- Bayfield House in New Quay, Co. Clare. My sisters and I had planned a small family reunion and were looking for a spot where we could spend long hours talking and walking, far away from it all. How lucky we were to find you! From the start, Maxx was a dream to work with, always responding to my questions within the hour. We arrived at the height of an enormous storm and Carmel was there at the door to check to make sure we had made it okay -- and with milk for our tea.
Everything in the house was in perfect order -- they have thought of everything at Bayfield House! Lovely beds, the kitchen is perfectly equipped, they have stocked the house with loads of DVDs for watching and board games. There is nothing fancy, stuffy or precious about Bayfield House -- it is entirely comfortable, warm and inviting, with lovely views and hide-away spots to suit all our personalities. We also appreciated that the owners have positioned notes throughout the house to guide you on your way -- whether you're lighting a fire or wondering which light switch goes to which light. You never had to search around for directions or stand in bewilderment as I have in other houses I have rented. To repeat, they have thought of everything.
And the location is unmatched in Ireland. It is steps from the magical Flaggy Shore so we were able to walk the loop many times, looking out over Galway Bay and talking to the cows, pigs and sheep dogs along the way. Down the road is Linnane's Lobster Bar where we happily ate several meals. You are surrounded by beauty whereever you look. And if you're itching for some "city life," you're within an hour to Galway and Ennis. Again, perfect on so many fronts.
We will return again and again -- in fact, we have already booked again for July. Thank you Maxx and Carmel for taking such good care of us. It was a trip we will never forget.

Bayfield House was a dream come true. A lovely house in the most beautiful location. The house was well equipped and catered to everyone’s needs on our big family vacation. A large house with a cozy.

The Bayfield House - Simply Awesome!
My wife and I recently spent two weeks at the Bayfield House in New Quay. It was our second trip there. We had stayed for a week in the summer of 2015 as guests of my sister. This trip, members of my wife's side of the family joined us the first week and members of my side of the family joined us the second week. In all, we had twelve people (10 adults, 2 children) with us the first week and 9 people (7 adults, 2 children) the second week. Everyone loved it - the house and the location!
The house is spacious - a large, well equipped kitchen, a huge great room, and 5 really nice bedrooms - 3 of them en suite! There's also a nice sitting room, an upstairs window reading nook, and a sun room for quiet, private moments. We were perfectly comfortable there!
The lot is wonderful, too! A big front yard and back yard with a patio out by the stone wall. Great views of Galway Bay and the Burren.
The location is great - an easy walk to Flaggy Shore, the beach. and a great road for walking or running along the shore. Russell Gallery with a nice little cafe/coffee shop is right next store, Linnalla's Ice Cream is a short drive away (or about a 30-40 minute walk), and Linnane's Lobster Bar is about a 10 minute walk up the road. Linnane's, a 300 year old pub, is great - fresh seafood right out of Galway Bay and plenty of Guinness! Kinvarra is about a 10-15 minute drive. A nice grocery store and several pubs and restaurants are located there. And Galway is only about a 45 minute drive to the north and the Cliifs of Moher are only about a 45 minute drive to the south either through the Burren or along the coast.
The house is perfect for a large group - plenty of room. We loved gathering in the morning for coffee in the great room and then a walk along Flaggy Shore before heading out to see the sights. Next time we come, we think we'd be perfectly happy just hanging out at the house - no road trips!
The owner, Maxx, was so gracious, responsive and helpful with all our questions and needs. And his local staff, Carmel and Mike, were always accessible, responsive, and helpful as well.
If you'd like a real in-house dining treat, I would suggest that you ask Maxx to put you in touch with Yvonne Naughton. She lives right in New Quay and provided us with a fantastic fresh seafood feast each of our two weeks there!
We will definitely be back to the Bayfield House. It is an awesome house in an awesome spot. You will find peace and tranquility there!

Fabulous spot!
Our family of nine had a fantastic time at Bayfield House! The setting was charming and the house suited our needs perfectly. It was cozy and warm and we immediately felt at home. We loved walking out the door to see Sally, the horse and all the cows. We took full advantage of the surrounding area... coffee & scones and wine & cheese at the Russell Gallery (where I purchased a tiny, beautiful oil painting of the Flaggy Shore), dinners at Linnanes, yummy chocolates and ice cream... trips to Kinvara and Ballyvaughn for meals. It was PERFECT. One of my boys said it was the first vacation that he has taken where he returned home feeling relaxed and not needing a vacation. Thank you Max and Beatrice for allowing us to stay in your wonderful home.

Home Away From Home
Second stay at Bayfield with extended family ( 8 of us ) and still one of our favorite places in Ireland. Very affordable for a larger group with 5 spacious bedrooms and 4 baths. Well appointed kitchen so cooking was enjoyable and the large farmhouse table there became our central gathering place. Evenings were spent in the comfortable living room with a nice fire and good selection of movies. The grounds are beautiful with a charming raised picnic area overlooking views of the distant hills and glimpses of the sea. An enclosed yard gave our little 3 and 5 year olds the freedom to come and go on their own and a safe area to play. Watching the sun rise from the glassed in sun porch was a treat. A lovely rural area just a very short stroll from the Flaggy Shore and well located for day trips to the many enchantments of the Burren and major sights such as the Cliffs of Moher, golf, Aran Island ferries, Ailwee Bird Sanctuary and Caves, Galway, Ennis, a lovely art gallery-coffee shop and restaurant just steps away and smaller charming villages. We hope to return again to our Irish home away from home.
