Historic Homes and Sights Near Downtown Vacations Homes Savannah
You need venture no further than your own front yard to immerse yourself in Savannah's history. Lafayette Square hosts a lovely fountain, donated by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in 1983, that commemorates the 250th birthday of the Georgia colony. If you visit Savannah in March, you will see the waters go green in observance of St. Patrick's Day.
Several historic buildings bordering the square are open for tours. The most striking is the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, which towers above the northeastern edge of Lafayette Square on East Harris Street. Although the main building dates to 1873, the famous spires did not come along until about two decades later. Windows of Austrian stained glass, exquisite murals and an impressive altar all contribute to the beauty of the cathedral. You will probably wish to take photos inside and out.
Another wonderful building to see is the Hamilton-Turner Inn, a prime example of Victorian architecture. Featuring Baroque design elements tinged with Italian influences, this edifice borders Lafayette Square on Abercorn Street. Built to exacting standards in 1873 for Samuel Hamilton, it features skylights, a talking tube intercom system and a dumb waiter. Hamilton ordered the installation of indoor plumbing and electricity just a few years after completing construction. It currently operates as a grand inn and restaurant.
The Andrew Low House, just down the street at the southwest corner of Lafayette Square, dates to 1849. In its early years, the Low home hosted such notables as author William Thackeray and General Robert E. Lee. The founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Law, succeeded Andrew Low as a resident of the home and willed the property's carriage house to the Savannah chapter of the Girl Scouts. The Colonial Dames of America now own the house proper, which is open to visitors.
Another essential stop near downtown Savannah vacation homes and Lafayette Square is the onetime residence of noted 20th century author Flannery O'Connor. Now a museum, the home has undergone restoration to reflect an authentic Depression-era character.

Easy to walk, uber or quick drive to anywhere we wanted to go. We had lots of room to chill, sleep in and visit.
10.0
Wonderful location in historic downtown Savannah. The unit was clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our time there and will keep this property in mind for our next visit!
10.0
Great house. Very spacious, nice safe neighborhood and within walking distance to a lot of places. Very clean and beds were super comfortable. Shower floor tile in master bedroom needs to be fixed and water pressure in that shower wasn’t the best but otherwise it was the perfect spot at a great price!
10.0
The Southern Belle Vacation Rentals Team communicated with us all the way through our stay. They even checked in on us to see how we are doing and if we had any issues. The location was great…close to River St and within walking distance to various historical sites. The property was clean and well maintained. We are impressed with everything. 100% recommend this property and the rental company!
10.0
Apartment was clean. Beds were very comfortable. Showers had excellent pressure. Close to the Hop on and off stop. Historical homes and sights easily accessed by walking. Only downside was a fan needed in back bedroom and possibly a comfortable chair in living room. Not a deal breaker at all, just a suggestion. We enjoyed our time in Savannah

We had plenty of room for our family in a great location. So many restaurants and shops near by but the location was safe and quiet. We were very happy.

This property was extremely clean and in a great location to be able to walk to restaurants and entertainment.

We had an amazing stay at the Abercorn house. Excellent location for our trip to our nephews wedding. The house was very comfortable and charming. The rental staff was top notch and helped us out greatly. Would recommend this place and property management company.

Check in was seamless. Unit was very clean and spacious. Location was perfect. Everything we needed!
10.0
Near the forsyth fountain and city market, it was very nice. Was checked up on the second day there by staff to make sure everything was okay!
6.0
As others have noted the unit could use an update and maintenance. The master bath floor has a steel plate in the center instead of fixing the tiles. Some outlets in the unit do not work. Directions in email and in the unit are not all correct. Cleaning crew delayed our entry into the unit past 4:30. Living room could use another chair. We were there in February and the place was drafty and cool.
The location was great. Note, parking was easy and no pass was needed for us. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and pots/pans so cooking was easy.
The list price was low and then added fees tripled the price of the unit per day (went from list $111/d to $300/d).
We had a good time, but would look for another unit if we returned.
8.0
The location was perfect. It was right by one of the squares and we could easily walk to restaurants, parks, shopping and the river district.
The apartment had some original southern charm, but it needed some updates....like a fresh coat of paint on walls and trim, and a transom window above one of the bedroom doors needed to be repaired. There was also chipping of the wood trim, not the paint, but the wood, in the master bath. There was a balcony out one of the bedrooms but the patio furniture was not clean to use and the master bath could have been cleaned a bit more. Plus, we received word shortly before arriving that we wouldn't be able to use the shower in the master bath that night because they replaced tiles in the shower and then left the old tiles on the bathroom shelves, which was inconvenient as we all wanted to clean up before going to dinner.
Overall, we enjoyed the place because of its convenient location, it was nicely decorated and accommodated us well, but felt some things could have definitely been better.
10.0
This property was perfect for 5 lifelong friends celebrating the year they turn 50. The property was clean, comfortable, and in walking distance to everywhere we wanted to go.
10.0
The location was great! Longest walk to anything we went to was maybe 15min. The street had some foot traffic, but it didn’t bother us at all. The space itself was very homey, clean, and charming. Beds were comfortable. Living space was a great area for all of us to hang - we even had a couple friends over who live locally and there was plenty of space for us all.
Management was very communicative and proactive to ask about our stay and if we had any issues that needed to be addressed.
Overall great experience and would definitely consider staying here again!
8.0
The location was fabulous but the property was falling apart a bit. The door knob fell off the door, the dryer wasn’t working well, tile came up in the shower. The location made up for it a bit but be aware.

Everything went smoothly. Wr loved Savannah and staying in a historic home was a large part of the enjoyment. It was clean, well appointed and the location was perfect. Thanks for a great stay.

Right in the heart of the historic district. So easy to walk everywhere! Quick walk to Forsyth Park and downtown. Great communication with the property manager.

We really enjoyed the place and location! Wonderful place and city.
8.0
We loved our Savannah vacation, and this was the perfectly located place to stay. We loved being able to walk everywhere! The apartment was clean, bright, and spacious. The pool was a big perk! But be sure to go early if you have kids…it got a bit rowdy after 3pm or so. The only reason for the four stars is because of the noise level. We had a noisy family above us (which is also a rental unit) and we could hear everything they did. It’s an old building so that’s to be expected, but I think it’s helpful to point out in case you’re looking for a quieter stay. Overall, our whole family enjoyed our stay!
8.0
We stayed at this unit for 3.5 weeks to see what living in Savannah would be like and boy, did we fall in love! The unit was the perfect location and size for our family, including our dog. We loved being right off Lafayette square and Jones Street. We walked to Forsyth park each evening and spent our days strolling downtown or driving out to Tybee to enjoy the beach and pool. Southern Belle was super accommodating and even brought us a vacuum when asked so we could keep the floors clean for our crawling infant during our stay. The unit had typical characteristics of an old house such as squeaky floors and squeaky doors, but it didn’t bother us too bad. Our 2 year old loved sitting in the window and seeing the carriage rides and bus tours go by daily! We would recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit Savannah!
8.0
Location was great, close to everything without being right downtown on River Street. Street parking was easy to find. The amount of basic cleaning items (like trash bags, dishwasher detergent, etc) was very generous. Blackout curtains would have been nice since the streetlights light up the bedrooms at night, but it isn't a deal breaker. Would definitely consider this rental again for a future visit.
10.0
This property is beautiful and in a wonderful location, with a square so close by. Local places are amazing (Clary's and Mirabel's Coffee), and worth a try. Lots of things in walking distance.
The property is as advertised and be aware this is a historic area and things are old and have some charm, do not expect "new build" experiences. The floors creak and give a little and the walls are thin, which makes noise a factor with neighbors, but again our experience was amazing with courteous neighbors. Doors are a little tricky (front door sticks, dead bolt seems to lock you out and the child knobs might drive you crazy).
Staff were responsive, polite and helpful. The pool is a nice added bonus on Tybee Island. Would definitely recommend!
10.0
The property was clean, staff was helpful and pleasant. The location is superb!

Fantastic place!
Great location.
10.0
This was an amazing property. I wish we could have had an early check - in. The location was amazing. The space was clean and very beautiful. We would definitely stay at this property again. The only drawback was the pool location. The heated pool access shouldn't be listed on this listing to pull guest in. The pool is in Tybee which is 30 mins away and we never made it to the pool. My family was excited that there was a pool only to read in depth after booking that the pool was in Tybee Island. (30 mins away)
AMAZING PROPERTY! Memorable Father's Day for my family!
10.0
historic Savannah was right at the property's front door.
10.0
The property was in the perfect location. Clean & great for family or group of 4. A small maintenance issue at the beginning of our stay - but was immediately addressed & fixed with GREAT communication. Would stay again!
10.0
We choose this property for a birthday trip for 5 adults (1couple and 3 single friends) and it was perfect. It was such an ideal location for walking around the city. Not to far to the bars on Bay St in one direction and Forsyth Park in the other. Highly recommend having brunch at Clary’s. We also loved how close Parker Market was for drinks and snacks. Even though the walls are pretty thin our stay here was very quiet and relaxing.

We loved staying at this property
