The house is beautiful with amazing views, well-equipped kitchen, and great communication with the owner. Wildlife on the property adds to the experience. We will definitely return!

Beautiful home for a rainforest stay, but you should know...
This is a tricky review to write.
First, the home is beautiful and the view?!?! Amazing. I've never seen so many butterflies and hummingbirds and heard so many bird calls and monkeys. You can feel the vibration of life around you and it is wonderful.
This is one of the better appointed VRBOs we've stayed in. Everything you need in the kitchen is there. Good appliances, cookware, plenty of towels. Washer / Dryer and laundry soap!
Having said that, this was not a great destination for us. If you want to stay at the house and enjoy the view, read your book and take a swim, it might work well for you. We wanted to come and go more, and that's where we bumped into some difficulty.
This may be on me. I read the description as 3 miles from Uvita. I saw that we would need a 4x4. We've driven on rough (!!) Costa Rican roads before. This was not surprising to us. What I didn't expect was just how long it would take us to get from Uvita to the house. With practice we got it down to 22 minutes. And that's 20+ minutes of very difficult driving. (I thought it would be a few minutes of rocky, rutted, challenging road.) It was over 40 minutes round trip just to run into town.
As a result, we didn't want to go down and up more than once a day, it was too much stress and kind of sucked all the Pura Vida out of us. Gone were my ideas that we'd jaunt into town for coffee and pastries, hop over to the beach in the afternoon, return home for showers and clean clothes and then scoot out to dinner. Instead, we made one trek each day and on two days decided to just stay in because we were tired of the difficult drive.
Then there's part two. We lost power. I know this is common in CR. We had a few 5-10 minute power hits as we expected. We brought flashlights just in case so we were ready. I'd picked up a little extra water as Claire had suggested.
The power stayed out for 22 hours. Without power, there's no water. No showers. No flushing toilets. No ceiling fans. No wi-fi for communication. Spotty cell service. I know the owners can't control the power grid. But having a generator might make sense. A stock of extra water. A bucket so we could use pool water to flush the toilets. I would have really appreciated a visit from a caretaker to check on us, maybe bring us a little food. We lost all the food in the fridge and an entire day of our vacation.
It's a beautiful home. Claire is very communicative. But we won't return.

Beautiful Escape
Casa Aracari is situated on a beautiful property that allows visitors to enjoy the most beautiful views of the area. We certainly appreciated having downtime there after our adventures. Admittedly, the drive there is rather treacherous - definitely requires a 4 x 4! The manager was wonderful - extremely responsive and helpful. She sent a great deal of information prior to our stay and connected with us during. We really appreciated getting to know the caretaker, Marvin, and took him up on his offer to take us to see the waterfalls. We also met his brother and took a chocolate tour. It was a highlight of our trip - so personal!

Mountain top Paradise
If you want to get away from it all and don’t mind a little rough road to get to the top of the mountain this is a beautiful place to be. We spent our first 5 days at one of the best hotels in Costa Rica, but the last 8 days we spent here was magic. It was just the two of us, so swimming necked was awesome! I also love to cook so all my meals were exactly how I wanted them! That being said it was nice to have a small town 20 minutes down the mountain to eat out too.

Jungle paradise getaway!
House and property are truly an amazing jungle experience. Everything you could need or want is in the home. The location is steeper and longer than anticipated and a 4x4 is certainly required, but road is in good condition. Claire, the owner, was a great communicator and Martin, the caretaker, was an awesome and friendly guy that gave us a wonderful waterfall tour. We would definitely stay here again!

Absolutely Incredible!
I truly cannot say enough about out stay! Its actually taken a few weeks to adjust to being back home... I miss Costa Rica so much!
From the moment I booked the home, Claire was in contact. She answered no only questions about our stay but also about our trip as a whole. She provided great recommendations and even helped me get some activities booked. She was very quick to respond and was so kind through it all.
The house... where do I even begin?! The drive up to the house is a little difficult at times but nothing our 4x4 couldn't handle. They were doing some road construction while we were there. Two of the days the road was closed for a few hours. It interfered with some of our plans but nothing too terrible. It actually worked out nicely because we were able to meet and talk with some of the others who live on the mountain. It sounds like the road work is going to be greatly appreciated.
The home itself was absolutely gorgeous. It was extremely clean and so welcoming. The gardens around the home are too beautiful for words. We immediately got into the pool when we arrived. It was the perfect temperature for the hot and humid day we were having.
Like another guest mentioned, my only "complaints" (not really complaints, but maybe things to improve) would be the mattress in the upstairs master bedroom and the air conditioning unit. I didn't check out the other beds so I can't speak to their comfort. The air conditioning unit did shut off every 15ish minutes so getting up to turn it back on was frustrating at times but nothing we couldn't handle.
Everything else exceeded our expectations. The view, the pool, the house, the neighbors, etc.
I truly could go on and on about this property. We are very much looking forward to visiting again and will definitely be staying there! I can't imagine a more perfect spot for our family to enjoy Costa Rica!
Thank you, Bud and Claire!

Quiet & peaceful
We stayed one week recently at this home. Location is good, owner Claire is very friendly, caretaker Marvin was super kind and helpful and we highly recommend his farm/ranch/waterfall tour that he offers during your stay. Overall we enjoyed our stay in this location, but the drive up to the property can be a slight challenge. You must have 4 wheel drive and higher clearance on your vehicle. We had a RAV4 but it would still scrape the bottom on a section of the road where they had piled up rocks, gravel and clay forming large speed type bumps in the road. Not sure if this was to slow vehicles down for dust or to divert rain running down the road when raining
We found the master bed slightly uncomfortable as it had a plastic type mattress cover, so it felt warm while sleeping. The filling in the pillows were separating and lumpy. The a.c in the master room would shut off after 20 or so minutes and you would have to continually turn it back on if you wanted it to continue while sleeping. One of the two other bedrooms on the first floor does not have a full bath attached. You must go through the kitchen to us the toilet in a half bath or go outside to shower. Otherwise you have to go up to the 2nd floor to use one of the other full baths. The 2nd of the extra bedrooms is fairly small, but has an attached bath on the 2nd floor.
The pans in the kitchen could use to be replaced as they were all teflon coated and scratched up as people had obviously used metal cooking utensils. We had concern of ingesting the teflon after cooking food in the pans.
With a few upgrades /changes this property makes for a nice get away.

Wonderful One-month 'escape-from-COVID' Stay!
This property was a truly beautiful retreat. There is definitely a "wow" factor - the view of the Whale's Tail is spectacular, as are the sunrises and sunsets. Nature is plentiful - birds of every sort and species, even a coatimundi likes to visit regularly! The house is open and comfortable. The owners recommend a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get to the property - heed their advice! We got used to the drive, but it is very steep on gravel roads, so 4-wheel drive is a must. Great communication with owners and the grounds keeper Marvin. Overall, our family enjoyed every moment staying in this wonderful oasis.

Paradise!
I can’t say enough about Casa Aracari. Upon driving into the property we were WOWed by the gardens and outdoor spaces. Upon walking around the grounds and seeing the view our jaws hit the floor! Then, upon entering the house we were AMAZED with the living space and artful touches throughout.
During our time at the Casa we truly felt like we were at home. The fully stocked kitchen, plethora of linens and modern appliances allowed everyone to relax into a restorative vacation.
We will in no doubt return!!
Thank you Claire & Bud for sharing your space with our family!!!

Week of Paradise
Casa Aracari was immaculate , comfortable, artistic, with gorgeous views of the mountains & the shore. Watching the changes in the Whale's Tail was a daily activity. Kitchen was well equipped. We lacked for nothing. We cooked everyday. Good water pressure. Hot water available. The outdoor gardens & landscaping was breathtaking. Flowers, shrubs & trees were great for bird watching. Pool was super clean & refreshing on hot days. Night swimming under the stars in the lit pool was fun. We spent most of our time on the outdoor patio/pool area that was very comfortable. We were very surprised that there were no mosquitoes or bugs to bother us. Such a lovely, private villa. Highly recommended it to people who want to experience Costa Rica nature. Do get a 4x4 vehicle as the road is challenging but worth it!

Perfect place in Uvita
Unique home with incredible views and wonderful arty touches. Beach chairs and boogie boards to use were so appreciated. Dishwasher in the kitchen is a huge plus. BBQ outdoors made for easy and delicious dinners. Close to everything in the area and the Whale’s Tail cure from the master bedroom was unforgettable. Book this home you will not regret it.

We loved our stay. Saw beautiful Toucans and Hummingbirds right on the property! Right down the mountain is a whole array of adventurous activities within a short drive!! We loved the Canyoning Waterfall repelling and surfing!

Fun and relaxation at Casa Aracari
Renting this place was a great experience beginning from the first contact with the owner, Claire, and property manager, Trina, who both went the extra mile to make sure our vacation was as pleasant as possible. Trina, a fellow Canadian, even shared her private stock of KD with us so that we could feed our kids when we arrived late on the first night, too tired to go out to eat or go grocery shopping! The house was beautiful, well maintained and had all of the appointments needed for a family with kids (2 adults, 4 kids). We enjoyed spending time "at home" just as much as our excursions. An elegant spiral staircase leading to the second floor of the house was slightly tricky for our youngest to negotiate on account of the open risers and the exquisite, but delicate balusters for the hand rail. Only an issue if you have very young kids with you.
We had planned to visit the local beaches and waterfalls and didn't really think we'd use the pool much, but we totally did. It was great.
The grounds/garden were meticulously maintained. One of our favourite activities was to simply walk around the house with the kids to see what we could find. We were rewarded with sightings of many interesting flora and fauna.
The drive up the mountain absolutely required a 4x4 vehicle. This is from someone who lives in a rural area, who is familiar with dirt road and off road driving. Depending on conditions (road work being conducted, downpours in rainy season, other drivers on the road, etc), it could sometimes 15-20 minutes to get from the main road to the house. The upshot was privacy, peace and the opportunity to live amongst the animals of the rain forest. It would have been ideal if it had been easier to just pop in and out of our place between other activities, but the trade off was definitely worth it.
We would be remiss not to echo the comments of other reviewers and recommend spending a day with Marvin, the gardener, at his farm. He also took us to the Nauyaca waterfall on horseback, where we swam, and asked a neighbour of his to provide lunch at her home. It was a great experience, particularly for our children.
We would definitely recommend Casa Aracari to travellers who are looking for a comfortable, yet still "off the beaten path" experience.

Better than described, rich in wildlife.
The Aracari house is an amazing place and it was even better than described. The decor and woodwork were upscale and inviting. I don’t think I have ever stayed at a house with such a well-stocked kitchen. We really enjoyed the pool and the view is unbelievable. The 15 minute drive up the dirt road was not a problem at all with a 4x4. Because the house is off the beaten path, the wildlife is amazing. Early in the morning we saw white faced capuchin monkeys across the road on a few occasions. We also saw coati, bats, many species of lizard, toucans, and more right on the property. We were cool enough with the windows open at night even without air conditioning. The power did go out on us a few times during storms, including once from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm so I do recommend having a back up plan for dinner since everything In the house runs on electricity. The owner and concierge were great communicators. Due to a last minute change we were able to check in early and Trina was very accommodating. We visited the Uvita waterfalls along the road to the house and had a great time jumping in the river. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

Wonderful!
This was our first time in Costa Rica and we truly fell in love! The house is wonderful and really felt like home. Everything we needed from boogie boards for the beach days to all the kitchen supplies to make a home cooked meal. The view from the house will never get old. Claire gave us wonderful recommendations of things to do and places to eat. The Beach Club was our favorite. We would eat or have a pina colada and then walk to beach and had it all ourselves! We made amazing family memories and can’t wait to go back! Thank you Claire and Bud!!

Loved Casa Aracari!!
Our stay in Casa Aracari was nothing less than fabulous from start to finish! Claire was very attentive from the beginning... sending emails and phone calls to be sure we knew everything there is to know about the house and things to do in the area. We've stayed at several other houses in the area, and this one was by far the nicest and best maintained. If you haven't heard or read about Marvin the gardener, you will...he is amazing! Such a wonderful person (and his family)...so if given the opportunity, take his farm & waterfall tour (and lunch at Maria's); it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip and we highly recommend it! There is so much to do and experience in CR, but just sitting on the deck or on the patio or in the pool at Casa Aracari was certainly one of our favorite things to do....listening to the sounds of the jungle every morning and sunset was our daily routine and we loved every minute!!! We can't wait to return and enjoy all the sights and sounds of the jungle, and will absolutely stay here again! Thank you Claire, Bud, Trina, and Marvin...can't wait to see you again soon!

mémorable vacation
We had a wonderful holiday at Casa Aracari. We stayed there for a week and did not want to leave. The amenities of the house and its comfort made our stay more enjoyable. The view is spectacular and the pool amazing. The site offers privacy and a unique contact with nature. We keep a wonderful memory of our horse ride to the fall, organized by the warm gardener Marvin.
Claire is very attentive and has given exceptional service. Thanks also to Trina for her warm welcome!
We highly recommend this place.
A family filled.

Beautiful and cozy house with wooden features
This is an absolutely lovely home in the jungle. Very attentive owners and caretaker if you have any questions. Fans in all rooms and on the porch keep the air moving and you cool. It is centrally located at the same time it is removed from the world by a 15 minute rather bumpy road but nothing a 4x4 can't deal with. Waterfall on the same road! The outdoor shower is a wonder to behold. You are in the jungle yet several top notch restaurants are not far away. Among our favorites are Osa Thyme, Citrus, Exotica and Fusion. Thank so much for sharing your home with us. We will be back!!

Fantastic Getaway
The house and view are absolutely gorgeous. Four of us stayed and we were incredibly comfortable. Claire is a brilliant hostess and thoughtfully answered all of our questions, recommended eateries and activities as well.
The kitchen had everything we needed, linens were plentiful, pool was amazing. The grounds and wildlife were breathtaking. We hated to leave!

Peaceful, beautiful, luxurious!!
We felt like kings and queens in this house!! The home is truly a work of art in itself, let alone the beautiful landscape around the house and the view over the water. We saw all sorts of animals as well! We were scared with the drive up the mountain at first, but the second time we went down it all became a fun little part of the adventure! My favorite feature was the little stone table in the actual pool. Would stay again in a heartbeat!
Also, the owner of the home and the property manager... are so nice and accommodating! So many tips and advice that we were able to take advantage of while we were there! (Places to eat, adventures to see, etc) pura vida!

Wonderful stay... again
This was our second stay st Casa Aracari and I have to say that the house was even better this time around. Once again Claire is such a wonderful owner! She told me that the house has some updates including the new screen doors. We really loved the screen doors! They helped move the air through the house & it really made the house feel so tropical!
The pool is wonderful & it was such a great retreat for our family!
Please don’t forget that to get up to the house, or most other places in CR, you have to have a 4x4!
We asked Marvin the gardener to take us on a private tour on horses to Nauyaca waterfall, and it was a great trip. On the way back, we had a wonderful lunch cooked by Maria! It was wonderful to get to know Marvin & the culture!
We went to several other towns, beaches & trips, but we always looked forward to relaxing at Casa Aracari. The view is amazing & it’s hard to take it all in.
Trina is a great house manager. She is always available to help!
Thank you Claire for sharing your beautiful house with us again! Can’t wait to return!

Stunning setting with privacy and all the comforts of home.
Couldn't have chosen a better place for our 50th Anniversary trip with family including two grand girls ages 9 and 12. Casa Aracari is surounded by namesake Toucans and we saw so many other birds, monkeys, butterflys, pizote, pineapples, bananas........... We went to a different beach and a different restaurant every single day (10); slid and jumped down waterfalls (some of the braver ones, included the grand girls); and came to home base, Casa Aracari, to refresh and relax. Lovely experience of a lifetime.

Absolutely gorgeous home with unbeatable view!
This is a beautiful home with every amenity that you can imagine. Except air conditioning ( which is listed on the website). It was quite warm at night, we put a box fan in the master bedroom to help the ceiling fans circulate the air. If you require A/C, you will be disappointed. That is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. The pool is divine, the house lovely, and the view just can't be beat. Being able to go the the beach club without worrying about your stuff is a huge bonus also. And the caretakers and owners were very nice to deal with. They had many suggestions to make our trip better.

The Ultimate Costa Rican Experience!
This is our third time choosing to stay at Casa Aracari. Claire is such a darling host and she makes the experience top notch! From the moment you leave your car and walk up to the house, you begin to feel the excitement and cannot wait to open the door! The view is SPECTACULAR and the artistic design of the house is so interesting and beautiful. In spite of prior visits, we continue to see something new each and every time. There is warmth in the details and the outdoor living space is where we always spend most of our time. It provides excellent shade and/or opportunity for sun..the entire day! The Bejuco Road community is very kind and helpful and we were blessed this time to meet several of the neighbours. Who knew, how many were here, deep in the jungle? Trina, the property manager, bent over backward to be helpful and Marvin the gardener is the kindest soul, you could ever hope to meet. Yes, the road up is an adventure in itself. But this time, we stayed for a month.....and every trip up and down became easier to navigate. The house is close to many of the extraordinary activities and restaurants that Uvita, Dominical and Ochchal have to offer. We made easy day trips to Quepos and Manuel Antonio National Park. ...And then of course, there is nothing more mesmerizing than witnessing the magic of the tide, from the infinity pool at the house. It overlooks the Whale Tail of Marino Ballena National Park which is the third largest sandbar in the world. It absolutely beckons you to walk it, at low tide. Casa Aracari is absolutely a dream get away experience - for couples and/or families!
