Everything! It was a great stay, especially for one night! We loved that there was a private bath and there were no reservations needed to go! The onsen was wonderful and we would definitely come again! The inn had everything we needed and more, we wished we stayed longer in order to experience more of the area and yamagaso!
One thing is that we didn't get any food included with the booking and wished we did as we were hungry when we got there! It would be good if we were warned a shorter stay meant no meals ;u;

The location was great, and the property was attractive, an authentic place to stay
The breakfast wasn’t very good, otherwise the place was great

Exceptionally lovely and helpful staff. A very relaxing onsen.
Musty smell in the rooms, poor western breakfast.
The confusing thing is that according to the hotel's policy on booking.com, children are not allowed in the hotel, but in fact children are welcome. Please change it.

The rooms are very spacious even if a person taller than 160 cm has to be very careful of their head at all times (try it to believe it). The fact that many of the rooms have hot springs is a plus, although the size of the tub is not suitable for a person taller than 160 cm
The Ryokan has no reception open after 8 p.m. It has no wi-fi in the rooms and the most part of the staff cannot speak English. The place is certainly great, but in the midst of the big hotels next door it loses its charm. The price is absolutely out of proportion to the experience

We had a wonderful stay at the 山家莊hotel this weekend, the crew were super friendly and helpful, especially the lady who was taking care of our meal and room, she treated us very well with warm heart, it feels like being taking care of by grandma. The room and food were classic Japanese style , there were really a lot of food, the wagyu shabu shabu, fish sashimi and eel hotpot were very delicious!

Amazing onsens. The open air onsen was especially nice. The facilities were clean and the site was extraordinarily beautiful. Trickling streams make it a very peaceful place. Very attentive staff. Great meal service.
Mosquitoes kept getting into my room (I think through gaps in the door). Also, it was a little hard to communicate as there was only 1 English speaking staff member.

This was our first time to Hakone and to stay at a Ryokan. We can only draw from our own experience. The staff was exceptionally kind and really made our stay special. My daughter loves Momo, who helped us during our stay. The food was magnfiicient and we got to experience all 3 Onsens. It was so relaxing and the highlight of our trip to Japan.

A nice cozy and relaxing location near the Hakone Yumoto train station. Has a shuttle bus to go there and back in the morning and afternoon, however the walk is short and scenic to get there.
Staff were exceptionally kind and the Nakai taking care of us was a sweet older lady. The Nakai don't speak much English so be prepared for translate.
Rooms were clean and the Yamabuki room was huge with 2 main living rooms, private bath, separate toilet, small kitchen with hot water dispenser and coffee maker.
There was also the option to use the private family bath there and also the 2 Senkei public baths.

Our stay at Yamagaso was simply amazing. This was my first time in Japan and I wanted my husband and I to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. Yamagaso lived up to everything I imagined and beyond. The room was beautiful as were the gardens and meandering paths throughout. Everything was very quiet and private. A perfect romantic getaway. Kimiko and the rest of the staff did everything to ensure a perfect stay for my husband and I as we were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. I usually never write reviews, however our stay warranted a review of our fantastic experience of traditional Japanese culture, hospitality and food. Everyone and everything was amazing. We loved the private “family” onsen which we never had a problem accessing, plus the private onsen in our room. The keiseiki meals were amazing. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Beautiful gardens, charming onsen, lovely authentic Japanese experience
Deep, rock, one person bath with view of the water, rocks and garden a real treat
Breakfast was western style in a cafe next door
Did not like the cold poached egg but was replaced with a tasty scrambled egg instead

The incredible service and good food. The room was very nice and so cool to stay in! We loved every minute of our stay. The hostess were super kind, even though we could not understand eachother well because of the language barier 😂 the onsen was also very nice and clean. The stay was a wonderful experience!
