About this house rental
Situated at the base of Mt Buffalo, in NE Victoria, the Lodge is an impressive handcrafted building constructed from local timber built on the site of an old Cattleman's hut from the 1930s. It has a 7 metre vaulted ceiling supported by huge load bearing timber beams. The glass front to the building provides breathtaking views of Mt Buffalo gorge whilst your dine inside.
With 3 fully equipped bedrooms. The 1st floor is occupied by an indulgent master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and a spa bath with views across virgin forest. Downstairs there are luxurious queen and double bedrooms, with a shared bathroom that includes a shower and an elegant cast iron claw-foot bath.
Things to Do
The spectacular luxury accommodation contains everything you should need for your stay, including a small library of books and DVDs, a selection of indoor and outdoor games, a telescope to watch climbers and hang glider pilots on Mt Buffalo and a high power spotlight to track the deer, owls, wombats and possums that occupy the grounds at night. For this reason our property is strictly no pets allowed.
For the more adventurous, the lodge provides easy access to and walking trails as well as being located at the bottom of one of the best cycling climbs in Australia. The region is an outdoor playground for children and adults alike.
The secluded location also means that there is no phone connection and no TV reception - our guests seem to like it that way! Mobile phone reception is limited.
We can also arrange for a personal chef to cook you a fabulous 3 course meal, with or without wine for our guests.

Grounds and Fire Safety
Scattered around the grounds are approximately 60 fruit trees, planted as rent by those who stayed in the original hut throughout the years. We'd love you to help yourselves to our organic lemons and limes and whatever other fruit you can find during your stay.
Our property is managed in accordance with Land for Wildlife, a voluntary scheme that encourages and assists private landowners to provide habitats for wildlife on their property. We provide a spotlight for guests to search for animals at night. You are likely to see wombats, wallabies, kookaburras, lyre birds and even occasionally the rare yellow bellied gliding possum on our property. For this reason our property is strictly no pets allowed. We are contributing to mitigation of the pollination crisis in Australia by looking after a bee hive.
We take fire safety seriously and have constructed the house to comply with the draft Australian Standard for houses in high bush fire risk areas (the standard that has now been applied to all rural homes since the Black Saturday fires) . It is built on a concrete base, clad in a naturally fire resistant timber, all the external roof timber is painted with fire resistant paint and there is an external sprinkler system.

Beautiful property in scenic location. Everything we could have wished for.

Spectacular secluded natural setting. Lodge was well equipped to accommodate our needs on this holiday. We enjoyed the bushwalking, native visitors, clean air and water, and waking up to the laughing kookaburras. Also, the early morning mist. The log fire kept us warm and was very cosy. We were close proximity to Mount Buffalo national park. Likewise there was easy access to Bright.

Wildlife and bush access/walk max a great evening.
With bright just down the road and Mt beauty the other direction we could have stayed longer

Pure Bliss
This was our third stay at Red Earth Lodge and pulling up the driveway delivered the same ‘Aahhhhhh!’ as it has the last 2 years. It has everything we needed for a relaxing holiday and the view of Mt Buffalo was as awe inspiring as ever. With as much or as little to do as you like, this place is a favourite with our kids as they love to explore and we will be back next year! Fabulous hosts, btw, always quick to answer and on hand to solve any issues.

Favorite Holiday
My husband and I have stayed here 3 times now with our 4 children. This home is very special, warm and welcoming. It’s cozy and the surroundings are so beautiful capturing Mt Buffalo through the amazing high windows. We enjoy walks down to the creek, night walks looking for animals ( the wombat comes out every night).
There’s so much to do in the area. Thank you and we will be back again. The OAKLEY Family.

A Blissful Recharge
Perfection. This is our second family holiday at Red Earth Lodge and we have already booked for next year. Our kids love the space and hanging out at the creek at the bottom of the hill whilst we kick back with the gourmet produce from the local wineries, distilleries, smoke houses and providers. Don’t fret, we balanced it out mountain biking at Bright and Falls Creek!

Stunning Recharge
Our family found bliss at Red Earth Lodge. There are very few pleasures in life that beat that view of Mt Buffalo from the vast living room windows and our children, aged 7 & 10, were enthralled by the abundant bird life that hung out on the bird feeder. In the evening, the guitar came out and we chilled out by the fire pit, roasting marshmallows and damper, and we taught the kids how to such hot chocolate through a Tim Tam, demonstrating with a local muscat ourselves. We were close enough to local amenities and attractions to be entertained and well cared for whilst feeling wrapped in the natural beauty of Mt Buffalo National Park. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, so much so we booked our next stay at Red Earth Lodge before we left. Can’t wait to be back.

A cosy, idyllic getaway.
The wood fire, the wild life, the tranquility makes you feel far away yet you are only 10 minutes from Bright and even closer to wineries and Porepunkah. It was a lovely place to head home to and warm up around the fire.

Nature at its best!
Another year and we loved the lodge just as much as the last two years. Wild deer, parrots and fruit on the trees made staying at the lodge all that more special. We absolutely adore this place and cherish the memories we make each year.

We had an absolutely lovely stay at this beautiful property - waking up to the mountain view and bird calls, an Easter hunt in the autumn leaves and delicious meals around the dining table. Stunning, great location!
We had such a lovely time staying at the Red Earth Lodge, the house was cool even in the peak of summer. And just a short walk down the road for a dip in the local creek was so much fun for the kids.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house was just beautiful, tastefully furnished, full of character and extremely comfortable. The grounds were wonderful and extensive, quiet and peaceful. The township nearby is also beautiful. We couldn't have imagined a more perfect mini-break and we will definitely be back!

Lots of space inside, lovely bedrooms etc. We put bird feed out each morning and watched the colourful king parrots and crimson rosellas. Plus a sweet wombat wandered around each day from about 10am till 3pm. Great experience for us all. Location is perfect for easy traveling to snowfields.

This was a welcome surprise after our long drive. We were delighted by the quality, design, warmth and views. It blends the old and the new to make you feel like you've been living there forever. You must stay here!!

If you are into outdoors, then this is the place to stay. At the foot of Mt Buffalo, you can ride up it, run up it, or hike all around it. There is also great trails to run and ride on like the Rail trail from Bright to Myrtleford (and beyond), and with Bright only 6kms away dining and shopping is easy.
5.0
A gorgeous place to stay, so peaceful and relaxing. The house has everything you need and is so comfortable. Seeing deer, a wombat and a wallaby was a bonus!

We found Red Earth Lodge to be one of the best properties we have ever stayed in and will definitely be back. Very comfortable, has every amenity you could ask for and on top of that is surrounded by beautiful and peaceful grounds to wander in.
5.0
Our stay at the lodge was absolutely divine! We were astounded by the brilliant colours on the property, and the interior was also cozy and furnished beautifully. The photos seen here really do no justice to the warmth and earthly feel of the property. The little nook with the books and magazines was a gem, as well as the master bedroom and bath. The fireplace was the perfect place to gather around for drinks, and in the morning the espresso machine was a great start to the day. The lodge was well stocked and the only thing we had to restock on was newspaper to restart the fire with. The property has many things to keep its occupants busy, with two swings, a DVD collection, a telescope, and of course reading material. It was also short drive to the nearby Bright where Autumn festivities took place. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay here- it was a magical weekend escape! I would highly recommend it to anybody wanting a relaxing country getaway!
