Could have stayed longer

Lovely spacious room ,comfy beds and very clean. Had a lovely night away ,close to town lovely meal across the road at the Fishing Club . Quiet property with comfy bed. Thank you will definitely recommend.

A generous sized room. Cafe on site. Good location. Comfortable bed and nice linen. We were given a late checkout with little fuss.

The room smelled musty. I suspect the carpet needs replacing. The room was upstairs, and the stairs were external. Parking was limited, and we had to park on the road after going out to dinner. Outside deck is the thoroughfare for all units. The deck had orange mesh fence and warnings about the safety of the railing. It feels dated and more than a little tired.

The rooms were clean and comfortable with the location being quite central to where we wanted to go. Having the cafe on site was a bonus as the breakfast was affordable and delicious.

We stayed in the cabins at the back of the motel. They were lovely and clean. The bed was massive and so comfortable. Would definitely recommend these cabins.

The car parks are very tight but apart from that very neat stay.

Nice motel in great location with brilliant cafe out the front.

Good location,spacious and great cafe at front of complex.

Climbing into bath to have shower and no carpet in unit as grit got all over the bed linen etc.

The outlook of the room and bathroom, very spacious and new.

The floor made the soles of our feet black. They were still cleaning the room when we arrived, couldn't go in till 2 20, hence the floor still was wet

Awa Hotel is a very comfortable stay and it's location is unbeatable, guaranteed to thrill.

Location couldn't be better. Just a short walk to town centre and to local attractions. I could stroll up and down the waterfront, all along the town centre, and return to the hotel with ease, refreshed, every day. I loved the fish and chip shop over the road. The best experience I had was a calling onto the Mataatua Marae and guided tour. It's a must-see-must-do and was just a block away. I cannot recommend it highly enough. It's Whakatane's best experience imho and this hotel puts you right there for it. Whakaari White Island and the marina were easy to see almost as soon as I exited my room. The bed was the best bed I've slept in for years. The sheets were luxurious. I was grateful to be given a late check out when I requested one. Shaun/Sean was very pleasant and friendly.

The building looks a little tired. I can see that it would have been stunning in it's heyday. The floor length net curtains at the entrance to my room were mouldy from the floor up to about a foot. It was off putting every time I came and went from my room. I felt better when I could shut the drapes to put a barrier between me and the mould. I was in room 9. A quick check of the surrounding rooms on the second floor suggested that my room was probably the worst offender so I guess I was just unlucky. I was struggling with a sore knee for a few days around my arrival. I had a large suitcase. I asked if there was a lift to transport it up to the second level. I was told it wasn't that sort of hotel. We all laughed as that was clear and I appreciated the humour in the moment. I appreciated much less that neither of the two reception staff offered to help me carry it up the stairs. Health and safety rules I guess. C'est la vie.
