I live in Beijing for 15 years, and I always heard of Commune as a piece of art, but with low management. With Hyatt, I was expecting for nice improvement. In fact, the houses are wonderful, really superb architecture work with the very nice concept of four rooms by unit, and a huge and wonderfully designed common space. It’s like having a 200sqm suite. The grounds are well kept are cleanliness is very good. We had the chance to stay in Bamboo Wall, perfectly designed. With a lot of luggage, you can find space for everything. it was like staying in a museum, but a super comfy one. thanks Mr Kenzo Kuma… Restaurant is very good, a little expensive, but it’s normal in 5 stars place and staff very professional. Breakfast buffet is nice and fresh. Private access to the Great Wall is very enjoyable.
BUT…. The pool was closed…. Excuse was Covid…We were informed IMMEDIATELY after booking that we need to show our HealthKit and 72 hours negative PCR test, but no one ever mentioned that the pool was closed. Seen the deep green color and the condition of the loungers, it was not open for more than a year. One of my choice to go there was the outdoor swimming pool:(
The air conditioning was not working properly in the room. At our arrival, we had 23C, but at the time of going to bed, probably 29C. The contrôler was broken. It was replaced immediately, but the temperature never get down 26C during the night. The next day, We mentioned it to the reception, and some engineer came to say that everything was normal. After complaining several times, in the beginning of the afternoon, temperature went down to 23C. But again, in the evening, back to 26C. We were asking for a fan…. When you pay 2000 RMB for the room only on middle of summer….Every motel around offer better service.
When we checked out, the receptionist after our complaints saw the manager on duty that offer us two bottles of red Chili basic wine and the promise of upgrade to a suite in case I come back. But he never came to apologize and the promise is only verbal, no voucher, no email… it’s a very good way, for both engineer and management to ignore and get rid of the problem. I find it arrogant and insulting. I thought that Hyatt was giving serious training about client service. This is not the case…
Three of my patients and potential clients living in Beijing for very long asked me already in the next days, what I think about the place, and they think this is in unacceptable.
I was planning to stay an extra night eventually, but in these conditions, no way.
Will you be back ? Maybe, but never in summer, and if management acts better.

Location by the Great Wall is cool and the property is up on the mountain so very quiet location.
A lot of the facilities on the property weren't open, pool etc the property could do with a bit of a spruce up

Breakfast -good they had various choices to choose from.
Where the location and surrounding is superb 👍
They have to maintain the building or renovate! It is clean! Not sure maintenance is done well in side the buildings/ Houses .

What wasn’t to like? The facilities were top class and the views of the Great Wall were stunning. You have free access to a small part of the wall via a steep climb which was the cherry on the top

The property and landscape was beautiful and our room was breathtaking. Sandy was especially helpful and everyone is so friendly. Our 6 year old son really enjoyed the hike kids club house and the hike to the Great Wall!

Just fabulous: beautiful wild grounds, amazing views of the Great Wall and the surrounding mountains, spectacular architecture, excellent hiking opportunities, private access to the Great Wall, super restaurant, breakfast and very friendly yet professional staff.
My friend and I live in Beijing and have just spent a weekend at the Commune by the Great Wall. Coming during the Corona outbreak, we were not quite sure how to make the trip and what to expect upon arrival. Rest assured, no problems whatsoever. We took a DiDi from central Beijing to the main village and got picked up by the hotel at the village gate. To our delight we were welcomed by the Hotel Director who gave us an upgrade. Being a Booking.com member I have tried to get an upgrade before, but at the Commune it was not a bigger room, it was a huge, beautiful, house of 260 m2 with a balcony with superb views of the wall. THANK YOU!
There are two hiking routes: a) a short steep 45 minutes hike up to the wall – it is not for the faint hearted, but if I can do it, most people can do it It can be very slippery and steep in places I recommend bringing a proper walking stick and boots. You cannot actually walk on the wall but stand right next to it and the views…wow…plus you have it all to yourself. b) a longer 5,7 km route going through farmland and small mountains – we didn’t make it all the way, just a few km, but it was a very easy and fairly flat walk in the beautiful, rough Winter scenery.
On top of that you can just walk the grounds of the hotel – the area is huge – just taking in the splendid architecture and doing some bird and squirrel spotting. There are a lot of woodpeckers in the area, and we also spotted an eagle.
An excellent choice for people wanting to get out of Beijing even just for the weekend.
We came for the hiking and the architecture but got so much more! We will be back again and again. THANK YOU!
