The staff were extremely friendly - went out of their way to try to be accommodating. The onsen was also great, the rooms warm, the food tasty and exciting. I was a bit nervous about the snow in mid-March but higher up the mountain the snow was fabulous and we had a great time meeting the guests of the hotel too.
Nothing - this was the first place we stayed in our trip and it was a great place to start!

the food was really good and well thought. I recommend to eat dinner at the hotel. The staff was very kind. The room was warm and clean

The inn sits at the base of the Giant ski slope behind Yamanoeki. It is currently reached by gondola but the owner will fetch you from Yamanoeki if it is required. The rooms are tatami mat rooms and you sleep on futons. Some rooms have a private toilet, bathing is done in the public bath on the basement floor. In the basement there is the ski rental area, dry room, ski locker room, toilets and laundry facilities. On the first floor is the reception and cafe. The second floor is the dining room and children's play area with a fire. Breakfast is buffet style, dinner is a Japanese kaiseki meal. Every dinner was excellent and is really good value at 2000yen per adult. The hotel also serves the local craft beer on draft. The first floor cafe can be used for lunch and also includes a small bakery section.
Guests are encouraged to spend their evenings in their rooms, use of the common areas is not encouraged. Maybe due to the season the room heaters do not work all of the time.

Lovely traditional ski chalet. Staff friendly and helpful. Good size rooms with comfortable futons. Great location. Meals enjoyable.

Staff and service were excellent.
Food was generous and good with a wide variety.
Proximity to multiple ski lifts. True ski in/out.
The common areas/dining room were a bit cold at times and nowhere to spend the day if you decided not to ski. Rooms are really for sleeping only and only a small dark lounge/kids area. But if you are out skiing in all weather this is not an issue. We had rain one day and blizzard conditions another.

The location is great as it’s right next to the ski hill. The breakfast was also very tasty and filling.
The Wi-Fi hardly worked at all and the garbage bin wasn’t cleaned from the previous stay.

Buffet breakfast and dinner was available every night 2000 yen, real onsen
Lights only turned on when dinner and breakfast is ready. bath tax of 150yen per person per day, no nightlife anywhere near the place and he turns lights off in common area early also. WIFI is terrible!

Good sized rooms. Great location. Good breakfast. Helpful owner. Nice hot onsen. Would stay again.
A kettle in the rooms would be better than a thermos, so you can have boiling water on demand. Unfortunately, the lounge area and fire place were not really in use when we were there. It would have been nice to sit around the fire place. Only option for dinner was to eat the buffet in the restaurant (couldn't eat at other lodges) - we don't usually have big dinners, so made do with noodles, onigiris etc from 7-11 (we had a car).

Aspen Shiga is ski in ski out, 1 minute from various chair lifts and Gondolas. There is a buffet breakfast and dinner every day. The Onsen is great after a long day on the hills.
There is no where else to eat dinner in the area as the 4 hotels on the mountain (in close proximity) have dinner exclusive to the guests. Aspen Shiga is for people who are keen to ski all day and then spend time and eat at the hotel. Also, the rental gear at Aspen Shiga is very tired so I would go else where to rent ski and snowboard gear.

You can't beat this place in terms of value. This is truly ski on ski off. The place is very comfortable. The man running the front desk is incredibly nice and accommodating. Very cool quiet area. We even had snow monkeys visit for two of the four days I stayed! Onsen in the basement was also very nice and wonderful after a day of skiing. I don't think you could find a better deal in the area if you are looking to ski Shiga. Taking the bus to snow monkey park was also quite convenient.
It is kind of difficult to access, given the hotel is only accessible via gondola that runs 8:30 am-4:40 pm. Without the gondola you have take a very pricey cab down, or walk down a pretty treacherous, snowy road for a few miles. With that said, apparently if you miss the gondola you can call Aspen Shiga and they will pick you up. You are quite locked into the hotel post 4:40 pm.

- in early season (till late December) you cannot ski to the main ski area. the shuttle bus is quite painful to take.

I really enjoyed my stay in Aspen shiga resort! Breakfast and dinner were so yummy and the staff were so friendly. I especially want to thank the Staff for sending us to the train station upon request. Facilities were clean as well. Though it is a long journey from the city, I think it is worth it for a good ski experience.
Location was a bit far from city

I was welcomed immediately with a friendly driver to shuttle me to the hotel. When I arrived, the owner was very accommodating and even provided dinner (which was SO tasty), even though dinner time had almost ended. Breakfast was phenomenal and the pastries were so fresh! You can get a wide variety which included both Japanese and western options.
The hotel also provides ski wear and ski gear, as well as lift tickets. This was very convenient.
The most memorable part of my experience was the service. This is a family owned business, and you can tell by how warm and welcoming they are. I managed to end up at the wrong ski resort by the time the lifts closed (there are SO many) and I was quite a ways from Aspen Shiga. The hotel I ended up at was so kind to assist me and even called Aspen Shiga for me. The owner himself came and picked me up from Yamanoeki station. I couldn’t have asked for better service.
Nothing! It was all great 😊

We were welcomed from the start. After arriving at the Yamanoeki bus terminal we were picked up promptly and taken to the Aspen Shiga. Breakfast was a delicious mix of Japanese and western foods. Dinner was always delicious and abundant. We were treated to both buffet style and banquet meals. The location of the property to the lifts is perfect. The staff were always friendly and eager to help.

Genuine ski in/ski out.We had a room with a view of the Giant ski run.The room was larger than most Japanese ski lodges and was very clean with really comfy beds. The food was great quality and excellent value for money. We would definitely stay here again.

Very friendly and warm hotel and staff making guests feel welcome.
Nothing. Although if I had a gripe, I would prefer less 'Credence' on the PA and more Carpenters :)

Their breakfast and dinner are so good and change the main course every day. Even the slopes in front of hotel didn’t open during stay, they provided the transportation service to the other areas.
