Breakfast was excellent.
The Chef was very high quality and the food served was excellent and very enjoyable.
4.3
Friendly staff and king size room.
I like dogs but maybe a separate area would be better for guests with dogs at breakfast.
4.3
Food good,staff polite and helpful
Room tiny, bed small, no air conditioning, only 1 plug socket

Room was a compact single. Although small it was comfortable and clean and had every thing I needed. Breakfast was good.
The room was a bit too hot but a fan was provided.

This hotel was the perfect location for the wedding we attended at Tunnels, it was literally next door. We ate at the hotel in the evening and for breakfast, there was an excellent choice of food and it was all very well priced, this included a bar where again the prices were very good. We will definitely use this hotel again, it would be excellent as a base to travel and see the sites of Devon.
The room was small, but the price we paid was reflected in that. The room still had a fan, iron and ironing board, washing soaps and fresh water each day with coffee facilities.

Breakfast was satisfactory as was the hotel's location and it's car park. The decor was very good as was it's car park- although the latter should have the small area that has a gravel surface asphalted.
The dinner menu was rather limited particularly the desserts as there were only four dishes to choose from.

Friendly welcome from Michael, and staff.Nothing too much for them!
Food in Restaurant very good, cleanliness was excellent throughout..
Room might have been bigger, but as a solo traveller I expect this.
However as a light sleeper I appreciated the quietness and slept well both nights

The staff were really helpful and friendly. The hotel was clean and the bed was comfortable. The double room is very small but perfect for our 1 night stay. I think if I was staying more than one night i'd upgrade to a bigger room.
The breakfast window is small, only available 8am-9am. After a 9 hour drive the day before and a late night it meant we opted to miss breakfast as we needed the extra sleep. Bit of a shame really.

The management and staff could not do enough for us. Check in smooth and friendly greetings. The rooms were smalls but everything was spotlessly clean; the beds and linens so comfortable, the shower brilliant and towels fluffy. Excellent. The restaurant has something for everyone which can normally be a worry because you imagine prefab food. Not so here. Delicious, fresh, imaginative and had we not made so many other arrangements with the large wedding party we were in Ilfracomb with we would have loved to have all of our meals here. My duo duck combination was fabulous and was almost outshone by the accompanying lightly sautéd spinach with beans. Too good. My partner had the fish which was tender and flaky with just a hint of sauce. Another had the beef rendang, spicy and yummy while another has happy with the chicken although I am sorry to say I have forgotten about as I was too busy enjoying mine! They made us individual lemon tarts as a special request as it was my husband's birthday. Excellent tartness, flaky pastry and just the right size. Good selection of wines and champagne which they kept for our last night there. This is a real find.
We went wild swimming at the Tunnels which was amazing and right next door. It would have been so wonderful to come back for a sauna and massage. WONDERFUL NEWS! They are as I write, completely those exact rooms. All the more reason to come back. The hiking all around there and the swimming is breathtaking. What a discovery.

Location, restaurant
Unfortunately a very bad experience, after I did check in, Michael, the receptionist/manager/owner gave me all details about my staying at hotel, I got the key for my room, went upstairs, surprisingly ( for both of us, me and receptionist on the same time) the room wasn't cleaned up. A second attempt to get a room was a fail, the radiator didn't work, the room was freezing cold, I let him know about, he seemed surprised ( second time) as much as I was, but he promised to fix it up. I went out for a walk, according his rules I dropped off the key to reception, when I came back, I have to wait over 5 min in front of the desk while he was swirling in his chair very relaxed, talking on the phone ( apparently a friendly chat nothing to do with reception or something that couldn't wait), finally he bothered to hand me the key, once upstairs in my room the temperature was the same, nothing changed. I went back to reception, Michael was vanished, I asked the restaurant staff, they said they informed Michael about my request, I have to wait. I contacted booking.com for assistance, Lara Jane was very supportive, she went above and beyond, contacted Michael about my complaint, it seemed he was very upset about. Finally Michael provided me a tiny heater ( that one that blows hot air), when I let him know I'm not happy with this solution, he was very rude, disrespectful, he was shouting at me in front of other guests, he even asked me to leave the hotel, he's the owner and he's doing what he wants, his own words " You have no option, nowhere to go that late in the evening ", that was true, 9:30 pm. As I didn't feel comfortable, still under the shock of the way I was treated, I find an accommodation and I did check out at The Carlton straight away.

Everything breakfast was brilliant and the best most of us had had so well laid out etc. Staff were especially lovely and friendly and this was notable especially as we stayed at the end of the summer season. Love the fact that the communual areas were well laid out and everything easy to find,
I was sharing with a friend and wasn't aware that it was a double bed - had thought it was two single beds - love d the stay anyway and didn't want to complain or ask staff to change this!

Great location
Shower not working properly

I liked the location being an easy walk to anywhere; the room was very clean with pleasant decor, and comfortable. I appreciated the fan and small refrigerator in the room. The staff was pleasant and Michael was particularly helpful and welcoming. The hotel was, overall, well kept and comfortable.
I can't think of anything I didn't like. Dinner service was a bit slow, but that is likely related to worldwide staffing issues.
