If you would like to see a short video of the town of Belfast, go to YouTube and search Belfast, Maine. The video named Belfast, Maine has lovely images of the town.
Words cannot adequately describe the feeling you will have when you reach this destination. Please scroll down to the end of this web page for the link for more pictures. If privacy and natural beauty are what you are looking for, look no further. Spend the day on the deck, relax in the hammock overlooking the ocean, or explore the beach while watching the ships sail by. Watch the lobster boats making their rounds, and the seagulls and loons circling overhead. Hike Mt. Battie in nearby Camden for amazing views, experience the quaint shops, antique and art galleries and unique restaurants in Searsport, Belfast and Camden or explore the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland (visit nearby Owls Head Transportation Museum and stop in for fried clams at the Dip Net in Port Clyde). Take a day trip to Acadia National Park where you can hike Cadillac Mountain, take a carriage ride, eat popovers at the Jordan Pond House, or hike along the coast at Sand Beach for dramatic cliffside views. Hop on a boat in Belfast Harbor and head over to Castine to explore an old Maine harbor town. Take your car on the ferry to Isleboro and have a picnic on a beautiful summer island. Visit the new Penobscot Bay Bridge in Bucksport, only three like it in the United States (go up to the observatory if you're truly brave). In the evening, feast on lobster at home or at nearby Young's Lobster Pound, take a stroll through the galleries of Belfast on the Friday night tour, have a romantic dinner at one of the many beautiful Inns in the area or just curl up by the fire, or chill out on the deck under a canopy of stars.
Wild Rose is a unique, oceanfront cottage, located on a private acre, fashioned after the home of famous Swedish artist Carl Larsson. 'Here I experienced that unspeakably sweet feeling of seclusion from the clamor and noise of the world.' That is how the artist Carl Larsson described his home in Sweden and what inspired the builders of Wild Rose. The location is first-rate; Wild Rose is in the heart of the beautiful mid-coast of Maine.
A winding lane leads to the house, which sits on one acre overlooking a luxurious green lawn and 140 feet of pristine beachfront. The front door opens into an entry hall with a view, as the windows opposite the door overlook a small patio, the lawn, and the ocean beyond. When you walk in, your senses will be delighted at every turn. The first thing to meet your eyes upon entering is the view of the Penobscot Bay, from the wall of windows in every room of the cottage. To the left is the living room that has a cozy feel, with a beautiful gas fireplace, comfortable couches and a flat screen TV. Off of the living room is the master bedroom, with an amazing canopied bed that will leave you feeling like a king or queen in his or her castle. There is a private bath in the master suite.
Wild Rose has an adorable kitchen with a built-in banquette, perfect for meals or playing games, which are included in the cottage. Off of the kitchen is a guest bedroom with two twin beds and a private bath. The house also contains a large loft bedroom with a queen size bed and the best views in the cottage. Great outdoor spaces, including a breezeway, deck and large grassy area, lead to the ocean. The cottage has steps to the beach for walks and hunts for treasures of the sea. An added bonus is the Moose Point State Park located directly next to the cottage. Access is available from the beach; there is a beautiful trail running alongside the ocean and through the woods that is great for morning exercise.
Because the house is down a lane, and because it is arranged so the bedroom suites are at opposite ends of the house, it has that 'unspeakable sweet feeling of seclusion' Larsson so valued. And because the many windows on both wings of the house look down the grassy slope to the water, those inside can savor the ocean at every turn. The views are southerly to Castine and Isleboro.
Off the back, a deck spans both wings of the house, and the patio sheltered between them is warm and protected even in winter. Inside, in the peak of the house over the patio, is a delightful sleeping loft with a rail, gate, and hand-crafted ship's ladder.
Wild Rose is a rare find - a gloriously charming cottage home on the coast of Maine. It is located 5 minutes from the town of Searsport, wherein you will find a quaint little town center, a maritime museum, restaurants, a family-owned food market and great antique shops. Ten minutes south is the town of Belfast, a sizable town with an historical downtown center filled with lovely shops, very good restaurants, numerous art galleries, an old-fashioned movie theater and playhouse, coffee houses, and even a great martini/wine bar overlooking the harbor. Within Belfast you can experience Thursday night dancing in the streets, the Friday morning Farmer's Market and Gallery Night every Friday night. Heading south a few more minutes you will reach Lincolnville Beach, then Camden. Acadia National Park is a one hour drive to the north. Bangor Airport is about 45 minutes from the cottage.
If you are looking for a place that offers serenity, privacy, charm and a great location, then Wild Rose Cottage is the place for you.

Rose Cottage fully lived up to the online description. It's in a great setting, quiet with a stunning water view. Great sleeping in the cool sea air. Kitchen is pretty well equipped as short-term rentals go, so you can cook meals there. The nearby town of Belfast offers everything you need by way of shopping and restaurants. Owner was prompt and helpful in getting one minor problem (empty propane tanks) resolved.

We had a wonderful month staying at The Wild Rose. Loved the quirkiness of the cottage. We are looking forward to our 5 weeks next summer..

The home was perfect for our week long stay. We enjoyed driving north snd south along the coast, leaf peeping and eating lobster! We ate breakfast at home and the other meals out. Only suggestion would be updating coffee pot… very slow to brew. Guests be sure to include your visit to Ft Knox observatory, great views ! We enjoyed our stay and recommend it!

We have stayed at this property multiple times and it never disappoints. Comfortable but not overly fancy. In a wonderful location

Great location with a super view. Communication with the owner and property manager, Wesley, was superior. We stayed during Hurricane/tropical storm Lee and had numerous communications with Wesley concerning potential problems. We very much enjoyed our stay at Wild Rose. It is an interesting and unique property.

We had such a wonderful vacation here. Each bedroom has a view of the ocean. The cottage was quaint, friendly, and private. We were right off of Route 1 for convenience, but far enough off the road that we couldn't hear road noise. Moose Point State Park was a close walk from the cottage and we walked over almost every day.

The cottage is stunning! It's like a fairytale or enchanted cottage. The description of the house is exact. The view of the ocean was great, got to see harbor seals several times, juvenile bald eagles, there were wild turkeys that came across the yard. The lobster boats went by quite a few times, and it was fun to watch the fisherman net fishing.
I have never had a more relaxing vacation! I literally have no complaints about this house, it was perfect!

Nice, large lawn with a rocky beach great for exploring. Saw lots of bald eagles, went running on Moose Point State Park, which is practically next door (only need to run less than a quarter mile on the main road to get to it).
The house is set up for family time, cooking, bbqs, playing games, and relaxing on the deck. The large table on the covered part of the deck lets you eat outside even if it's raining lightly.
We took the two kayaks on the water several times. The water was rarely choppy and often glassy calm, letting you see the fins of schools of little fish zigzagging. We also saw seals and heard reports of pygmy sperm whale sightings directly from the shore.
Belfast had good restaurants and the nearby Young's Lobster Pound was fantastic. We went to see Fort Knox (very interesting) and the attached Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory gave amazing views all the way to Cadillac Mt in Acadia. We went one day to Acadia and Bar Harbor. That was a longer drive, but worth it.
Overall, a great stay.

Quirky and charming little house for a relaxing stay. Well stocked with the necessities. Great lawn furniture to sit out and watch the bald eagle circle overhead. Getting the kayaks up and down the stairs to the beach a bit of a challenge but worth it. Appreciated the TVs had tennis channel and ESPN so we could watch a little Wimbledon. Having use of washer and dryer made the week much easier.

My family and I had a great stay at this property. The setting was very private and the views were amazing. The layout of this quaint cottage worked well for our family of four. Well outfitted. Conveniently located to Belfast and about an hour from Acadia. If there’s a negative it would be the dated furnishings but you might also think that is part of the charm. Recommended regardless. Thank you!

Butterflies and hummingbirds feasting on the hydrangea bush by the deck, bald eagles and ospreys soaring over the oceanfront, nice access for paddling, comfortable and enjoyable cottage, responsive host, would return again.

Overall, very nice. The loft is a bit of a chore to use for a bedroom, and w/o a.c. It was pretty stuffy. There were plenty of fans. Can’t complain about climate change, but due to the location, it got pretty warm and muggy with the fog. All I’m suggesting is that this would probably not be my choice for late July or August. There was no dishwasher, but there was internet and direct TV, which is nice. It would have been helpful if there were some instructions at check-in about checking out, etc. We were told there was a key box, but there wasn’t. Fortunately the cleaning service was still there at check in and left us the key. The house is probably 100 yards from the shore which is down a pretty steep set of stairs. That makes using the kayaks a little tricky. The real issue is trying to get in the water. Big rocks, covered with slick seaweed, high and low tide. Can’t really access for swimming. The mosquitos were also an issue at dusk and in the morning. This sounds like a negative review, but I don’t mean for it to be. Just a couple things travelers should be aware of. The location is great! The view from the chairs at the end of the lawn is wonderful, and when the breeze came in off the water, it was really nice. The house was furnished and stocked well. A real persnickety point: I wish owners would leave a knife sharpener. It seems that there are never any sharp knives to be found.

Perfectly Maine Cottage
We all loved the house. It had everything we needed and wanted. The beds were comfy. And all the cutesy things around made for a perfect atmosphere to relax for a couple of weeks. Washer and drier saved me a lot of time. We are planning on returning here.
My only unfavorable point was the lack of communication from the owner. I did receive the ‘here’s the address and how to get inside’ email. But nothing else. And there weren’t any “directions” in the house…like where to take the trash, that funny sound is the hot water heater… you know, stuff you worry about in your house. We did sort it all out and had the best time all together. 🌻

Lovely house, wonderful beach
We stayed a week and found the house to be very comfortable. The rooms are more spacious than the photos imply and the house was very very clean, no odd smells, no sign of pets. The bathroom off the master has a tub/shower combo and the bathroom off the singles is a walk in shower, both with excellent water pressure. Our only disappointment was that the gas fireplace was not working- if this is important to you, I suggest asking if it has been repaired. Also note, lockbox is waay over to the left ;) We missed it the first time

Enjoyed a week away from home in a breathtaking setting. Lots to keep us busy in Belfast, and just watching the fishing boats, bird life and seals from the lovely patio is a balm.

Another Great Year of Stay
This is our 2nd stay & again, able to create long lasting memories. Albeit the wifi or cable is the reason for the trip, at night it would be nice if the access/reception was better. We look forward to another stay in 2022.

We loved it! Husband, grown kids and dog had a great two weeks here. The house is very well equipped and the bedrooms are spaced so that two couples stay here and feel they all have complete privacy.

A place of calm
Our stay at Wild Rose Cottage was completely pleasant. The house itself was strikingly clean and quite comfortable. The view over Penobscot Bay is romantic. And the ready access to Belfast allowed us to mix excellent restaurant meals with those we prepared in the well-appointed kitchen. Access to the water was somewhat disappointing, requiring one to slip-slide on seaweed-soaked rocks for some distance before reaching usable water - but the kayak trip among the seabirds and flying fish was more than adequate reward. Altogether this was a rewarding respite from the madding crowd.

The Perfect Wild Rose
My 3 week stay at The Wild Rose ended today and I was kind of sad about it. I thoroughly enjoyed my vacation, especially because I was able to take my dog, TJ Hooker, with me on his first vacation. And, it was really fun having my sister, her husband and son join me to break things up. It’s in a great location if you want to do more than hike and kayak. There’s not much going on in Searsport but Belfast is 5-10 minutes away and it’s a great little city. Most of the stores are occupied, unlike Rockland and Ellsworth, and every one is so nice, unlike Rockland and Ellsworth. I met so many wonderful people and even made a couple of new friends. From the onset, Larry, the owner, always answered my questions expeditiously. Wes, the caretaker, is so nice. He checked with me before he did any yard work and asked if it was ok for an electrician to do something during my stay. The Orkin man was also cool Because he left a dog snack bag for TJ when he treated the yard while I was out.
Thank you!

Everything as described. A wonderful cottage. A home that clearly has been a source of joy and love. Many good memories made by our family.

The house is extremely well located and sited, close to popular destinations on Penobscot Bay. It's just off Route 1 (but far enough down a long drive to effectively be isolated from it), with long views across the front yard, shore, and Bay from every room (more than 30 windows). Direct ocean frontage.Only 2 neighbors through the trees, and we never saw nor heard them. Views for miles. Extensive decks, lounge chairs, and grille in the sun with the views. The house is well built, perhaps 20 years old, with typical modern conveniences - heating system, screens, ample electric and lighting, decent wi-fi, great TV, fully set up kitchen, etc. For you all who like luxurious hermetically sealed abodes though, there is no AC (I saw a window unit and fans in a closet and there was a useful dehumidifier). But this is mid-coast Maine, folks, with occasional dripping fog, cool breezes, and blazing sun. That's why we go there!Great for day trips all over Maine, chillin' on the deck watching the lobstermen, kids playing on the huge grass lawn, hiking the shoreline, kayaking from the steps directly to the shore, searching foodie destinations (try Arborvine in Blue Hill for sophisticated dinner) or just devouring lobster rolls. I'm an early riser and sat on the steps to the beach this morning with my coffee and muffin, spellbound watching dozens of fish schools frantically jumping in a placid Bay, with the seals and fish-eating birds also having breakfast. As a bit of an architecture junkie, I also was highly impressed by the house as an impressive interpretation of the home of a renowned Swedish artist, Carl Larsson. Not gimmicky, but charming and very comfortable.

Not what we expected
We reserved the cottage for a week but had to cut our trip short. The house has a very unpleasant musty Oder that was very annoying. On our last day the temperature inside the house was 83 degrees. Although the view and location was amazing the owner needs to address the musty / moldy smell in the house.

In an unprecedented time, a moment or a week to decompress, relax & reflect is warranted. This place checked off all the boxes. We enjoyed our time & memories. Thank you Larry for making this possible. Stay age & healthy.

This is a sweet cottage in a lovely location. Our kids and dog loved kayaking off the rocky beach. The lawn gave us plenty of space to run around. It gave us a break from socially distancing at home and broke up the monotony.

What a view!!
Fabulous view and unique cottage made this the perfect spot for our family gathering. Our family of 5 adults were nicely accommodated in this spot for the week, and we had plenty of room to have a few more family members join us for a BBQ, with happy "campers" ranging in age from 6 to 96!! Larry and Wes were great- very responsive and accommodating! Would definitely stay at the Wild Rose Cottage again!!

Great Maine Getaway
We very much enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It was not as remote as we had hoped but still was quiet and did the trick for a lovely week. The house is located along a major route but has a long driveway so you don't hear the traffic very well.
We could hear the neighbors on both sides of us but there is a good bit of privacy between the yards. The house is well laid out and fairly well stocked, though we couldn't find any salt in the kitchen, a basic we always expect to find. There were a few other items left behind (oil and vinegar). Good that Hannaford's is close by and has all you can possibly need. Upon arrival we found the house to be clean but very musty as all the windows were closed and locked. Definitely needed the fresh air. As we go to Maine to spend most of our time outdoors, we would have liked more outdoor living space. The patio area is crowded with a big table and chairs and grill - all great. (Bring a grill brush to clean the grates as we couldn't find one. All other utensils were available. )With an expansive ocean front lawn it would have been wonderful to have seating down by the water. We saw several seals and loons as well as many other shore birds. Lobster boats came by a couple of times during the week.
We mostly do our own cooking but enjoyed some good meals in Belfast and Young's lobster pound where we were thrilled to find every kind of seafood, either to be prepared and eaten there or to bring home and cook ourselves. Spent a great day in Acadia National Park roughly one hour away and well worth the trip.
Appreciate the pet friendly policy and know our dogs enjoyed themselves immensely. The water can be accessed but the shore is quite rocky and can be slippery with seaweed. Good place if you want to kayak but not so great for swimming though the water was surprisingly warm. We walked over to Moose Point State park from the beach as well a few times and walked our dogs around the park = beautiful!

We were very pleased with the Wild Rose! House is adorable, and you can't beat the location. The rolling lawn was great for family games and kite flying. We loved searching for shells, rocks, sea glass snd driftwood. Saw eagles, falcons, loons, and seals! The weather was fabulous! A great time was had by all! thank you!

Beautiful, peaceful setting.
We have stayed at this property several times over the years, and we just love it. It is nothing fancy , but it is always clean, comfortable and inviting. The fact we could bring our pets this trip was a big plus for us. Wild Rose Cottage is close enough to town that getting to the grocery or coffee shop is a quick and easy. The state park next door makes a great place for a walk or a bike ride. Our favorite thing, however, is to just sit out back and look at the bay.
