The hotel exceeded my expectations. The history of the room that I stayed in-Princess, where the baby (and future Queen Victoria) stayed, was fabulous and made it really unique and special. Felt a part of history!

The front-of-house staff were the most professional we had experienced on our trip. (Out of 8 hotels)
The fixtures an fittings in our room were a bit dated.

I liked that it was quirky and that the staff were really very good. The pool was an added bonus.
Location wise it's great for both the seafront and town.
Public areas were clean and tidy and the evening food was good. I had drinks on both patio areas...lovely.
Parking is plentiful but possibly a little tight for some.
Think typical English seaside hotel and embrace it...and just to be clear, the staff really are great.
The bedroom was dated and needs a spruce up. This single room is opposite the lift which is noisy but to be fair everyone had used it by about 10:30 pm
The noise from an extractor of some kind starts at 7 am so beware if you like a lie in.
I had a very bouncy mattress which may not be to everyone's taste.

Perfect location as it was 2 minutes to town centre and a further 2 minutes to the seafront. Staff were very pleasant on arrival and throughout.
A little more coffee in the room would of been appreciated. We had enough for one small brew. Beyond that it was perfectly good.

Location - swimming pool - some of the staff
The dinner time of 6.45 does not suit parents with kids. Meaning you either need to go search for somewhere, which everywhere in Sidmouth needs to be pre booked, or else grab a takeaway to eat in the room. Not ideal

Breakfast was most enjoyable, loved the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel
We didn't find anything to dislike

Interesting building
Breakfast was expensive £14-50 and not particularly nice or hot

Good location , nice helpful staff
No WiFi on 2nd floor, water not hot in morning. Wasn’t keen on using lift as found it very claustrophobic.

Much as I remembered the place from 30 years ago. So all fine.
WiFi in room was poor.

Location was close to the sea and shopping area. Buffet breakfast was good along with the full hot English plate.
Bathroom was small and needed some upgrading. No elevator available so had to carry luggage up two floors.

BREAKFAST WAS VERY GOOD;
THE MANAGEMENT AT RECEPTION WERE VERY UNHELPFUL AND UNCARING;; NO DISABLED PARKING; NO DISABLED ACCESS; DOUBLE ROOM VERY SMALL

Breakfast was Ok. Sometimes waiting for dishes to serve fruit. Yoghurt could have been a little more generous. Could not get a booking for dinner which was a disappointment. I was told it was because of staffing issues. Parking was possible but some of the spaces very awkward to get into. Location of the hotel good
Cheap toilet paper is something I'm not used to and was surprised by it

Superb location for all local amenities.

We stayed in the Henry Suite, very nice, comfortable and roomy.
We only had breakfast in the hotel, which was cooked but fairly small portions. We did not eat dinner but for no other reason than there were so many other restaurants to choose from in Sidmouth.
There is a lovely Drawing room lounge on the first floor.
Access with so many stair cases could be tricky if you have mobility issues but there is a lift.
Loved all the extra information about the history of the hotel and links to Queen Victoria and other royals.
Staff were very helpful whenever we asked for anything.
Breakfast was OK but could have been more plentiful. Coffee was poor.
There are two small car parks and if everyone parks within the lines it should be OK but some people seem unable to do so and block 2 spaces at a time. Luckily parking on the road outside the hotel is available 6pm to 10 am however, if stuck.
When I called there was no price advantage booking direct or via Booking.com

In a quiet situation, but short walk to beach & shops. Interesting building with a lot of history, charming sitting rooms & bar areas. Cleanliness was good in all areas. Bed linens & towels were whit & clean. Staff friendly
Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room. Bit of redecoration needed in some areas, pillows a bit hard & the breakfast offering could be more imaginative & generous. The vegetarian breakfast was particularly uninspiring, & some pastries would be a nice addition.

Good size room with comfortable beds. Plenty of storage, nice chairs, TV and hot drinks. Room service was good and dinner delicious
Continental breakfast was disappointing

The Royal Glen Hotel occupies an historic building a stonesthrow from the beach at the Western end of Sidmouth sea front giving easy access to the beach and the town centre. Our six o' clock arrival was dealt with in an efficient and friendly manner, and, noticing my Wife's walking stick, the ' Receptionist' called the lift for us without prompting....a very thoughtful gesture.
We were given room 22. Regretfully, I have to say that this particular room is very small by modern standards and the decor was very dated. The bed was only a 4ft 6 inch double and sagged a little in the middle, suggesting that the mattress needs renewal. Unfortunately, whilst updating to a 5ft double would be a good choice, it would make an already small room even smaller. The provision of two small armchairs was a nice touch, but, once again, the size of the room meant that in order to open the door to the small corner wardrobe, one had to move the chair out of the way. The TV on the wall to the side of the window was, appropriately, also very small, and the sound and picture quality were dreadful.
The bathroom was also dated in appearance and the shower was tiny with some black staining evident in the sealant around the edges.
Breakfast was adequate, but nothing special. My scrambled eggs were slightly overdone and the toast was "chewy". No-one asked whether we would like more tea and coffee....and it was fairly obvious that our names had not been added to the list of those guests that would be taking breakfast. The staff were friendly, but appeared distracted.

Evening meal charged at £35 per head was well below the standard I would have expected from such a quality hotel, the rest of the hotel was perfect and I would stay here again, but next time would not go for evening meal
