Kanda our host was incredible. Was a glorious experience. He spoke great English and taught us Origami and Japanese words/facts. Food was so fresh and high quality. Highly recommend

Beautiful view, room, and a private onsen. Our tub was bigger than the booking.com photo, must have been replaced. The service was amazing! The food was very high quality but it is ryokan food which is a bit out there even for a half Japanese person, be prepared for adventurous new foods that might challenge you.
The location is a bit difficult to get to on your own, we only had backpacks so wasn’t bad. I’d definitely accept the shuttle ride from their recommended pickup points.

The meals were amazing, every single meal exceeded our expectation. Staff spoke really good English and explained all the ingredients in the meals. The room was really spacious and the stone spa was wonderful. The view from the hotel reception and our room is amazing - full of greens, really calming. A bus stop was nearby and staff offered to drop us off at the nearest train station as well which was really convenient. However, a tip is to arrange pick up service with staff before arrival - they offer pick up from Chokokunomori station. If not arranged, a taxi is also easy if you call it with a local taxi app or take a bus.

The staff was incredibly kind and helpful.
The location and facilities. There is nowhere to be except in your room and a tiny lobby space.
It is located above a road with traffic which you can hear when you sit on your balcony.
The food was very well presented but was not all as fresh as we were expecting.

The suite was lovely and the views exceptional.
Location was lovely once I arrived but the taxi driver did not know it and tried to leave me at the wrong entrance.

Absolutely magical stay. My favorite in our two week trip to Japan. Our room had a beautiful view, lovely large bath, and very comfortable beds. The food was incredibly delicious. And the staff was so lovely and gracious. Be sure to also visit the Hakone Open Air Museum.

The property is wonderfully located with views down the valley all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It was also remarkable quiet and made for a nice respite from the noise and bustle of our forts few days in Tokyo.
Nothing. Everything was great.

The room was nicely appointed in a traditional Japanese manner, and the traditional kaiseki Japanese meal was excellent.
We stayed here because we wanted a private "onsen" or hot spring bath in our room. While our room was quite nice, our onsen was very small (more like the size of a bathtub) and not even comfortable for two people.

Staff was extremely kind, knowledgeable, prompt, and friendly.
The food was delicious! I ate it all very quickly.
The place was very clean. They provided quality amenities.
This room that I booked was a bit big for just one person but the added comfort of dining in your room and the luxuriousness of the space was well worth it!
One night was not enough!

The welcome email as soon as I booked giving me logistic information as we were traveling by train to Odawara to sight see and do the pirate ship to rope line to cable car to train and then bus to get to Gora. We decided to send our luggage ahead to Kyoto and stay overnight in Hakone. I booked this hotel last minute. My kids wanted a private onsen. I could not believe I found this place. Just fantastic place. Our room was in the Annex so meals were served in our room private. At check out the staff drove us to the open air museum and paid for our entry. Completely unexpected. The service was amazing. They have an onsen on site that you can reserve as well but I believe all rooms have a private one.
Everything was as expected.

The staff at Hakone Kyuan were amazing! My sister, brother-in-law, and I all greatly appreciated the kindness, service and level of attention in all manners of the stay. It’s a place that really celebrates Japanese culture and tradition, while also offering modern day comforts. Also, the location is gorgeous, the rooms are amazing, and the private onsens are rejuvenating.
This goes both ways actually - Hakone Kyuan is up in the mountains, so if you don’t have a car you’re looking at a mix of trains, busses and taxis to reach the location. On the flip side, if you can get relatively close to the place, they do have a private shuttle that can pick you up, and staying up in the mountains means that you will get a lot of privacy and peace during your stay.

Great communications (via email in english) before arrival.
Ease of check-in and check-out without leaving our room.
Offered us, including our 2 kids, “welcome” drinks.
Room had yukatas for all for of us including our 4 year old.
Great private spa and course dinner and traditional breakfast brought to our room.
Free bottles of water, beers, and teas/coffee.
Complimentary ride to nearby train station.
Little bit of walk thru “close to nonexistent” sidewalk if rode local bus to nearby bus stop.

The Keiseki Ryori was an amazing 8 course meal that truly impressed us. But the star attraction here is the amazing views and relaxing hot spring tubs. It was the highlight of our trip.

The staff was exceptional! My son misplaced his origami paper and was whining in english in the van. somehow the japanese staff knew what he was going on about, dropped us off at our destination, went to buy two packs of origami paper, drove back to give it to him!!! it was totally unexpected and so kind.

the experience and staff was excellent.
the property and booking.com were not able to accommodate a medical emergency cancellation or partial refund. we ended up inviting a friend of ours last minute but would have preferred a discount or refund.

Amazing all round. It was our first stay at a Japanese ryokan. I would highly suggest this experience. Staff were so welcoming. Showed us to the room and explained what to expect. We had a private onsen with a lovely view of the mountains. Japanese dinner and breakfast was served in our room. Delicious!! Beds were very comfortable. Bathroom was so lovely. It was so relaxing and such a great experience.

Service and food was amazing.
The room had a really nice view of the mountains.
Very personalised service. Even though English is not their forte, the staff really tries hard to explain what each food contains.
Great experience here.
If you are not driving, it's a bit tedious to get to the hotel.

Overall really great, very exclusive. would be even better if we can see the menu in advance yet we also understand food and ingredients are seasonal. We saw previously some customers had lobster sashimi but we had something else just as nice, but would be great if we know in advance too. Overall still very enjoyable !!
There was a welcome drinks, unfortunately it's only available at lobby, we would prefer to have it in room while we unpack and have a drink too. Good stay !!!
I find the rooms a bit crowded, not spacious in terms of design. overall great !

It was a family trip, and everything was good. I was satisfied with the room, the food, and the hot spring, and I was touched by the staff's efforts to explain it using a translator. Kaiseki cuisine was delectable, and we were satisfied during our stay, so we want to visit again. If I revisit Hakone next time, I will stay here.
