About this house rental
Charming 1920's Bungalow right down town San Luis Obispo with free, private parking! If you like the downtown experience, this home is perfect for you. Thanks to San Luis Obispo's new hosting policy - Homestay - , we can now share our down town living experience with you.
**** Looking for a place to say while running the SLO Marathon?! Our home is about a mile from the starting line and is on the route! Great for runners and the supporting cast. It's about a mile and 1/2 walk to the finish line if the team wants to come see you finish. We did this last year. Great event. *********************************************
I grew up in San Luis and probably didn’t really appreciate all it had going for it until we moved away for about 20 years. The Bay Area is nice, but there’s something about the small town vibes of San Luis that keep you from missing the Bay Area traffic.
We bought the DownTown house in 2013, rented it out for a year, fixed it up, landscaped it, and moved in. First time we had ever lived in a downtown location. We actually felt kind of hip at times.
If you’re looking for a quiet get away by a flowing stream, this may not be for you! If you want the urban downtown experience in a laid back town, in a cute early 1900’s home, and are ok with the city noises - then this will definitely work. You will definitely hear the street sweepers, garbage trucks, occasional sirens. All part of the downtown experience!
Here's a few high points.
A cute, old house. Early 1900’s. Maybe 1914. A lot of original character. Great old vertical grain doug fir floors.
Upgrades – Like a new kitchen. New appliances. Countertops crafted out of 100+ year old barn wood.
Forced Air including Air Conditioning. Funny you wouldn’t think you need this in SLO, but downtown can get warm. AC is a plus.
Inside laundry center. It’s small, but it’s a nice convenience not usually seen in these old homes.
Location – Right downtown! It’s a fantastic launching pad for visiting the city and county of San Luis Obispo. It’s just a 100 steps from the back door to a hip coffee shop – Black Horse. Four blocks to the hippest coffee shop – Scout. A block to the best tri-tip sandwich at Firestone Grill. A great park right around the corner. Great hiking right from the front door. Gus Grocery Sandwiches a nice 3 block walk. Terrace Hill is a 2 mile loop with great views of town. Wineries within 10 minutes. Beach within 15 minutes. Bike from house. Great road and mountain biking trails. Great local restaurants.
Farmers Market every Thursday evening. Best Farmer’s Market in California. A block from the house. Bike night follows on the first Thursday of the month.
Private parking area for up to three vehicles! A huge bonus for SLO! Leave your car and walk to everything!

A wonderful cottage

5 star in every way but there is a bit of road noise given the location. Not bad and it does quiet down at night, but it is noticeable. Otherwise, a wonderful house and very comfortable and well appointed.

The home was exactly what we expected
Great location, decorated in early 20 Century flair and the perfect size for 2 couples.

We rented this property the same weekend last year to visit our daughter who’s a CalPoly student. This adorable bungalow is located in an ideal spot right down town. The house is beautifully furnished and accommodates four people comfortably. We loved everything about it from the bright spacious kitchen to the comfortable bedrooms. We will definitely stay here again!

Truly enjoyed our stay at this property! Comfortably furnished, great location in SLO…easy to walk to central downtown area. There can be a bit of street noise at night, but we didn’t find it objectionable. Highly recommend this charming SLO bungalow!

Great house in the best location. The host was more than accommodating. This is the 2nd time I’ve stayed in this home and look forward to my next visit.

In for a family wedding in downtown SLO. 10 minute walk to everywhere we needed to be, so was perfect for us.

Quaint 2-bedroom home right in the heart of downtown SLO. We were bringing our son back to college and this was so much better than a local hotel. Lovely home, clean, and the best location! Would definitely recommend and return!

Everything about this charming cottage exceeded expectations. Spacious, clean, comfortable. The various areas (kitchen, dining room, living room, bedrooms, bathroom) featured nice decor and were exceptionally functional. The downtown shops and restaurants were just a short walk away. The only slight complaint was a bit of noise from busy Santa Rosa Street. I would stay here again without question.

It was perfect.. perfect location within easy walking distance to everything. Beautiful home and everything supplied that is needed, even if I had not been alone, instead with a larger group. The noise from cars passing during the day is not intrusive and it was quiet all night. Will stay here again and recommend it to all my friends and family.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable, well equipped kitchen, the windows added wonderful natural light! The location worked out great for us - yes it is in a busy part of town - we enjoyed the energy. Centrally located to everything! Our only suggestion is better tv setup. Roku, cable or satellite. We hope to visit again soon!

This location worked perfectly for our 2 night stay. In town for a wedding venue walk thru and cake and catering tasting. We were gone most of the daytime hours but were in a perfect location for walking to downtown for meals and drinks. Loved it!

This spot as perfect for our family as we were focused on exploring SLO. Walkable to everything!

Awesome location. Easy minutes walk to downtown SLO.
The house is darling, well stocked, beautifully decorated. Super clean and tons of parking in a private lot. Some miscommunication between Vrbo and Expedia about accesss but not the owners fault

Great for downtown exploration and walking access to restaurants and historical sites and shopping.

If you love architecture this is your stay in San Luis Obispo. The house itself is early Craftsman with beautiful wooden floors, period glass and fixtures, and delightfully decorated. Directly across the street is one of the 26 original Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in California and then downtown SLO itself is a showcase of every architectural style dating back to the 1770s. The owners sent us some texts during our stay to make sure everything was OK & their housekeeping person obviously takes pride in their work, the house was spotless.

Everything about this property is terrific. It’s well maintained anD appointed. Comfy beds and furniture. The best aspect is it’s central location. So close to everything in SLO, and easy access to everything on the central coast. We would do definitely return!

We stayed at this property during a storm and appreciated how quick and efficient the house's heating system was especially considering how old the house is. The house was very clean and comes with off street parking. The ad stated there were snacks but there weren't any. We did appreciate the coffee that was offered. We'd stay here again. The location is excellent.

Wonderful home in a great location within walking distance to downtown. They had everything we needed, communicated timely, and the checkin/checkout process was seamless. The house is very cute and has an old school charm to it. This place is perfect for a small family to visit. We will definitely be coming back.

This is a fabulous place to stay. It is a quaint little cottage in the heart of downtown. Perfectly appointed and immaculately clean. Our visit to SLO was to see our grandson who is in college there. It was a perfect spot to spend time with him and cook some of his favorite meals. We will definitely return! Thanks for your wonderful rental.

Home bliss
This place is quirky & pretty. The beds were so comfortable we wanted to stay longer, & the charm of the furnishings felt like a really personal home.
It was well equipped & all instructions easy to understand & we had a great time exploring the lovely town on foot right outside our door!

We made the reservation two years in advance while anticipating our youngest son’s graduation from CalPoly. The house and the proximity to campus and downtown could not have been better.
