About this house rental
The Julia Rose West is a month to month fully furnished rental and is the west side of a duplex of an historic home in Old Town Durango. We have a city permitted short term rental on the East side of this duplex. We can send you the listing if you would like to see that as an option.
You will be walking into a spotlessly cleaned and disinfected space at your check-in.
There are handrails at the front and back entrances.
The Julia Rose is named after our middle daughter and the beautiful Pink Rose bushes in the front and backyard. Built in 1898, this historic Victorian home has recently been updated with contemporary elements and has a nice blend of old with the new. There is a remodeled kitchen and bath and newly finished wood flooring, paint, window coverings, furnishings and appliances including a washer/dryer and very quiet dishwasher.
The Living Room is the largest area in the home and has a Queen Murphy Bed, a sofa, side chair and a separate desk area. There is a wall mounted mini split for A/C and a furnace for heat in colder months.
The Kitchen has a granite counter with a counter height table that seats three. The kitchen is fully furnished so you can create anything from a gourmet dinner to a smoothie.
The bedroom adjoins the bathroom and is very small but cozy and comfortable with a Queen plush mattress and designer bedding and duvet cover, and a closet and dresser.
The Bathroom is also very small and is tiled with a shower/tub so you can soak and relax after a long day out. The view from the tub is like being in a 'secret garden'. There is a window unit A/C for hotter months.
PLEASE NOTE: The bathroom is very small and guests have to walk into the bedroom to get to the bathroom. It may not be a good fit for people who have difficulties in tight spaces.
The short term rental on the East side of the property have dedicated use of the front porch. The Julia Rose West has her own back patio with a propane grill access and outdoor furniture to relax in privacy and comfort. The entrances are separate. There is extra sound insulation between the two units. We are a strict non smoking building.
There is space for one car in the parking lot with a back and front door entrance if you prefer to park in the street. The flat screen TV we provide cable internet with the highest speeds available via Spectrum Cable with TV via Amazon Firestick. This house is in the prime downtown location in a quiet historic neighborhood off of the busy Third Avenue. Main Street is three blocks away and you will be right in the center of all of the fabulous restaurants and downtown coffee shops and shopping.
Upon arrival, you will enter the house with a coded lock and grab the key for the back door, The front door is closer to unpacking and unloading and the back door is closer to the off the street parking.
You can settle in by having a cool drink on the back patio or walking a few blocks to Main Avenue to relax at one of the coffee shops or brewpubs.
Please note this is a non-smoking unit, which includes marijuana smoking. We are very strict with our non-smoking policy.
We do allow dogs with pre-approval on a case by case basis.

We spent a month and couldn't have asked for a better location. The neighborhood is beautiful and conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, grocery stores - all forms of shopping. The unit was tidy and clean with all the amenities you could ask for. Additionally it was great to have on property parking. I would highly recommend.

Sarah’s place was perfect for my husband and I who were working remote while exploring Durango! You can beat the location and the house has everything we needed for our extended stay. Karen took care of the house and was wonderful to work with. Would definitely stay here again for a short or long term stay. Thanks, Sarah!

fall/winter
wow, wow and wow. this place is a great location, clean, homey and had ALL the necessities you would need. so many VRBO units have about 2 rolls of toilet paper and that's about it. this place had covid masks, tons of TP, paper towels, spices, cooking oil, coffee, oil, pots, pans - really everything you would need for the basics. they even called when we arrived to ask if there was anything else we needed and not to hesitate to call. all we needed was our groceries...they had EVERYTHING else covered. probably the BEST vrbo we have used and we have been vrbo-ing for years and years. i wish i could give them a #15 on a scale of 1-10. we will be back!!!!!

This is my 8th rental in 2021 as I am on an extended WFH road trip… and since I count heavily on others reviews when booking I will be as honest and kind as possible here.
On the positive side, the location of this home is utterly perfect. You are close to main street with all it’s great restaurants and close to numerous hiking/biking options. Parking in front of the house is usually available too. The kitchen dishes and glassware were spotless.
On the flip side, I did have some issues that I feel it’s important to mention. Upon arrival, I was disappointed to find that the comforter was visibly dirty and the towels were crunchy. So I spent a few hours doing laundry so I would feel more comfortable and clean in the home. The sheets were washed, just not entirely clean, as I found ‘those’ hairs there and in the bathtub.
The windows should NOT be opened in this house as it is unsafe. One shattered on me as I tried to open it. This is problematic not only because it created a bloody mess and cuts for me, but also because it becomes stuffy inside when the weather is warm. The window AC unit is in the main room, so to sleep near it, you’re on the murphy bed. Otherwise, you could sleep in the actual bedroom with the back screen door open, but there is a large hole in the screen. I found the bed to be concave and bought a mattress topper from Walmart on day 2.
For those who work from home, the wifi is not fast & went out temporarily 5 out of 10 days I used it. One day there was an area-wide wifi provider outage and I had to go to the library to work. That’s out of Sarah’s control obviously.
Sarah communicated with me about issues I was having, and I did appreciate that. In the future, I’d recommend that the property manager reach out before stopping by, or at the very least, knock before entering. Soon after I arrived, she walked in unannounced, which alarmed me and my dog, and frankly, it was frightening and completely disrespectful. She continued to try to talk with me as my dog was barking at her and I finally had to ask her to call me to talk further if needed. While I realize she was trying to be friendly & welcome me, entering without knocking is pretty shocking. Overall, great location, not my favorite stay.

Lovely spot within walking distance of downtown. Great smalltown aesthetic and cozy vibe of this place. Every evening we would explore the town make a reservation and if we had to wait for dinner it was just a short stroll back to the house to wait for a table. Is a dog friendly property which is much appreciated.

Julia Rose
It was exactly as sold. So we have no negative comments about the unit itself. There were dog poop issues with next door neighbors who let their dogs run loose. It was a great location and the permanent residents were nice. It was cosy and quite. There was a tv issue that was quickly taken care of. We would stay there again.

Great location! Old house a few things were a little dirty but very comfortable and everything worked. Easy checkin and check out with door code lock.

Nice unit close to beautiful downtown Durango.
The Julia Rose was perfect for our Christmas stay in Durango. I appreciate the fact that my standard poodles were welcome here as they travel with us and are part of family celebrations. The kitchen was well stocked including a new washer and dryer. I also like being within walking distance of downtown and the grocery store. We really enjoyed the visit.

Overall great location and nice house
Cute house, great location, roomy main room and kitchen. Bedroom is small but fine except the window wouldn't open and there's no fan. The house manager brought one but it was really noisy. Also the garden was overgrown so not really comfortable. But these are so minor for how well equipped and usable the kitchen was and how comfortable and roomy the living area was. And we loved the 3 block walk to downtown. We'd happily stay there again!

Quaint, efficient little home
My stay in Durango was everything it could be. The JuliaRose was an excellent place to stay, so close to downtown yet private enough to absorb the quiet, cool evenings.

Closed In
Came to enjoy the mountain air but most windows didn't open and the ones that did were missing screens. Bedroom too small to unpack clothing or to use bed. Slept on Murphy bed instead. The neighborhood was nice and location was good for walking around. Would seek out a nicer accommodations next time in the area.

Had a great relaxing few nights at Julia Rose. Fit a family of 4 perfectly
The house was roomy enough for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. The location was perfect to downtown and other activities. We like the old feel of the house and neighborhood as they both had a good vibe and feel to them. Parking was easygoing d everything we needed for our stay was working and available. The back bedroom floor is very loud, but that was not a huge deal. Only thing I would add or get for future vacationers are better pillows for the people sleeping on the Murphy bed. Overall our stay was fabulous and would definitely come back to Julia Rose again.

Charming Sweet Spot
If you are visiting Durango you likely know about this towns charm and the Julia Rose is the perfect home base to enjoy Durango! This is the perfect place for a couple or a small family. The living room and kitchen are very roomy and the house is equipped with all the amenities you need for a vacation. It's not a negative by any means, but be prepared that the bathroom is attached to the bedroom and if you are staying with others don't expect too much privacy in either of these rooms. I really enjoyed the secluded, quiet of the neighborhood but thoroughly appreciated how close of a walk it is to Main Street and all the action of town. You're sure to enjoy a stay here!

Love DURANGO! Great Location!
We enjoyed our stay at the Julia Rose. You really can't beat the location, and if we were going into town we would walk since parking in Durango was almost impossible. I kept wondering why so many cars lined the streets by the house and realized that this was as close of a parking spot as they could get.
As mentioned in previous reviews this is an older house, with that the floor in the bedroom and bathroom made a lot of noise. Also, the bathroom and bedroom were pretty tight areas. It was only my husband and I so none of this was much of an issue. If there was 4 people staying here it maybe a little close for comfort.
The back porch area was nice but it felt a little over grown, and we didn't spend much time back there. The other side of the house was under construction during our stay and workers were there. It was a little loud but we were warned before hand and the workers were nice. They mentioned they were doing some upgrading with insulation to help with one side hearing the other side. I am glad they are making that change because if they were talking we could hear.
Positive: Location and safety. I felt very safe in this house and the location was great. Very charming and I would recommend it and would love to visit and stay here again.
Thanks!
