3.6
Futon was comfortable.
Bathroom very very small; unpreposessing.

気軽に泊まれたこと。

Rien ! Room was so dirty
Dirty!!
- Can’t use the fridge completely dirty with moods inside .
- Tatami dirty
- The owner enter my room when i wasn’t there and forgot to locked it so my door stayed open all the days ( with my money , passeport computer camera inside).
- If you want privacy forget it because she has another keys and enter the room almost everyday and it’s not for cleaning.
- The door of my room was broken and i’stayed 22pm to 2am outside because i couldn’t open it .
- Make to give the taxes quickly because she will knock and enter your room at 8:30 am to have it . Also check the amount because mine was wrong.
- There is no reception you will never see her excepted for the taxes. If you have any problems Good luck.

everything was perfect : traditionnal bedroom and futon, quietness, the interion, the neighborhood, next to the shichijô station. Very traditionnal ryokan for the price.
a little misunderstanding about when to pay for the room. it should be stated that the money should be given from the first night : we worried the inn keeper. Otherwise, nothing to say.

The location is very good, and the room is air conditioned.
The room wasn't very clean, and our room wasn't cleaned at all during our 5 day stay. No clean towels. Futon were stained and smelly. Walls were also stained.
The lady that works there is very friendly, however she doesn't respect privacy. She will enter your room unannounced at 8 am, either for payment in cash for the stay after the first night, or to "clean" the room. She tried to get it EVERY SINGLE DAY at 8 am, even though we explained to her in Japanese that we usually go out at 9 or 10 am, and we asked to come after that time.
We know for a fact that she entered the room when we were out, because she would unplug all the electronics in the room, even if they were already turned off, but even then, the room wasn't cleaned, shampoo bottles weren't refilled, she didn't leave any clean towels even though we put our dirty towels in the designated bin.
TLDR: Avoid this place if you want a pleasant stay.

Just like any classic Japanese room you ever wanted. Really gives the ryokan feel instead of the usual western hotel room, but in a super cheap and comfortable way!
3.6
location was near the gion area.
the room was tiny. the bathroom even more tiny. the hostess asked for more money in cash only than the confirmed booking.com price. she said it was for a Kyoto tax but no other hotel asked for that. it seems sneaky.

We were close to a bus stop and the metro. The atmosphere of the room was exactly what we were looking for in a ryokan stay.
The customer service was not great as they did not answer our inquires or notes via the app and knocked on our door then came inside the room demanding us to pay city tax the following morning at 8:30am. There was no lift and the stairs were narrow so be wary if you have large luggage. The toilet and bath are in the same room and it is a bit cramped.
3.6
The location has a bus stop just outside and the room is very beautiful. There is free tea and water available in the reception.
Communication is very poor here. I had someone join my trip so I needed to book another room. All the notes and questions I asked via booking. com were not responded to. Stay clear of the ‘pay at accommodation’ button because I pressed it accidentally and it cost almost double to what booking. com had written. The employee came into our room at 8:30am demanding to have the payment ready and I tried to explain in Japanese but she wouldn’t listen. If you pay in advance you still have to pay city tax.
There is no elevator so you will need to carry luggage up a narrow stairway.

It was clean. Not 5 strar hotel standard but very clean, sheets were clean and so were the tatami mats. They provided filtered water outside the roo. And free instant coffee and tea. My room had a microwave, and kettle and area to hang my laundry.. it really exceeded my expectations. I love sleeping on the floor, and it was comfortable, softer than some hostel beds I have stayed at.

Lovely tatami mat room with very comfortable bedding. Had a lot of amenities (kettle, microwave, toaster, laptop (unsure what for), tooth brush, hair dryer, tea cups and pot, small TV). Good and clean bathroom. A quiet location off in an alley, close to transport links. Wish I booked it for a second night!

The room was cold.
3.6
Everything. Free coffee and tea. Super satisfying shower. Free towers. TV and table set in my cheap room. Clean.
Only one shower room in the first floor but doesn't matter. Price beats everything.
3.6
Location was good, close to station
This hotel is very old. Room was very small, and dirty. Especially, tatami floor was all in dirty stains. There were hair in the bed.
3.6
For the price it was fine and comfortable enough. I didn't have any issues sleeping on the futon.
the heating worked okay.
No lift, just stairs, although when I went the man who checked me in was kind enough to take my suitcase up the stairs for me which I really appreciated.
The bed could really do with a lint roller because there were tiny hairs/fibers when you look closely, so I draped the pyjamas that were provided on the mattress to avoid sleeping directly on it. I also didn't have any blankets, so I had to blast the heating all night to keep the room warm enough.
The bathroom wasn't necessarily unclean, but it wasn't exactly clean either. A bit surprising for Japanese standards. The whole thing just needed a good wipe and scrub. I didn't use the shower/bath because I didn't want to, but it was fine for me because I only stayed for one night and I showered at my next hotel. If you're planning to stay for more than one night, that could be a problem.
Although I did ask the property managers a few times if they would let me store my luggage so I could explore the city, they didn't respond at all, so in the end I gave up and just checked out.
Overall, although cheap, I probably wouldn't stay here again.

You have your own private room
The room gets cold easily in winter time.
3.6
The room was very spacious and there were a lot of power plugs. There was a washing machine and the Internet was quite good. It was also quite close to public transport.
There wasn't an elevator, which made carrying luggage up to the room a bit difficult.

Staying at ryokans in Japan can get expensive, so pricewise you really can't go wrong here...you get the Japanese vibe with quite a nice room and it's also quite close to the sightseeing spots in the center of Kyoto
Maybe a strange thing to focus on, but from all the different showers I had at hotels in Japan, I'd say that the one at Ryokan OHTO is the best!
3.6
Good location. Walking distance to the station, and not too far from some tourist spots. A few restaurants and conbinis nearby. Good price for private room with private bathroom.
