About this house rental

Welcome to a unique island getaway on Bruny Island! I have been renting Alkira out as short term accommodation for over ten years and am so delighted to share my 'home away from home' with you.

The spacious 2 bedroom holiday house is situated in Lunawanna, Bruny Island. It is a short drive to Cloudy Bay, The Lighthouse and Bruny Island Winery. Other attractions include the Bruny Island Cheese Co, The Smokehouse, The Chocolate Factory, Berry Farm, Oyster Farm, and Adventure Bay Tours. The Allonah Cafe is a great general store that's close by and we are also close to the only pub on the island!

It is situated on the quiet part of the island with a beautiful beach within walking distance from the shack. You can enjoy spectacular views of the Hartz Mountains and the D'entrecasteau channel every morning sitting out on the front deck.

The shack has two large, newly decorated bedrooms and a room off the second bedroom which has a bunk bed for extra guests/children. All linen is provided and tastfully decorated. Although we have redecorated to include homely comforts and a rustic design, ''Alkira'' still maintains that shack look and feel which is why my family love coming over to Bruny to unwind and relax.

The bright and sunny kitchen is also fully equipped (with also a coffee machine byo pods!) and there are even some cook books for inspiration. We have a woodheater in the living room which heats the whole house on those rare chilly nights. Outside there are BBQ facilities and an outdoor entertaining area with a big deck which you can enjoy. Whether you want to stay a few days or a couple of weeks you can be assured that the shack has everything you need away from home.

Even though I live in Hobart, guests are welcome to contact me anytime and there is also a book of brochures about Bruny Island for you look through. Please contact me if you would like any more information.

''Alkira'' means ''bright and sunny'' in aboriginal which we think is the perfect description for our warm and inviting Bruny Shack :)

*bookings over December/January Christmas and New Years period are minimum 4 night stays and will incur an additional cleaning fee*

Stayed at this property for 2 nights and during the first night we ran out of water. Couldn’t flush toilets, have showers, clean teeth etc. Not very pleasant to wake up to with 5 adults. Water wasn’t filled up til 5pm that day. And we were only there for 1 complete day. Asked for a partial refund, we felt 1 night should have been refunded but were only given a18% refund. Told Courtney we felt this was inadequate but she refused to communicate any further. She also accused us of breaking the handle of the microwave but it was already broken. The handle had been glued back on, this was obvious by the amount of glue on the top and bottom of the handle and there was a sign on the microwave saying be careful with the handle. All we did was open it and it came off. Not a good experience.

We had the loveliest time at Alkira. Set on a quiet road with stunning water views, the home is light, spacious, peaceful and very comfortable. The afternoon sun pours in through the front windows and, if needed, the fire is wonderful! We loved the rustic decor, the comfortable bedroom and well-equipped kitchen. Thank you, Courtney, for sharing your holiday home and communicating so well. We felt so blessed. Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer.

Loved our stay. The shack has all that’s needed for a relaxing stay. It is nicely nested in a quiet bay with a large deck facing the ocean. No luxury but very comfortable and homely. Highly recommended.

Wished it didnt rain the two days we were there. Everywhere was so muddy and we didnt get to enjoy much. We were in the cottage but it was cold and no heating otherwise it would have been more pleasant.
