Women were divided into classes based on their offenses and attitudes, while the facility functioned as something of a penal finishing school for earning redemption. The site is part of a group of 11 Australian Convict World Heritage Sites and aims to tell the largely untold story of thousands of female convicts who were imprisoned, transported, and forced into labor.
