We enjoyed a relaxing vacation in Shell Beach. Conveniently located near SLO and Avila Beach. There were tide pools and a couple nice parks nearby. The ocean view was amazing! The house had 2 living areas. It could use updating, but we enjoyed the location and views!

Stayed at the property for four days in January, 2024. The house was clean and well appointed. Nothing too fancy but then again, we weren't here for fancy, we were here for the ocean and that we got plenty.
The view is just amazing and every day we gathered in the back to appreciate the sunset. We napped by the ocean, we took walks to a local part. Basically, we had a very relaxing vacation.

This was an excellent place for a group of us traveling from different area to come together. Convenient, STUNNING location. House was well stocked and we decided to cook in most meals to enjoy the ambiance and visit! I’d say as the property is a little older, you have the normal wear and tear expected… otherwise fabulous!

The initial impression was this place is a bit dated. But I love Mid Century Modern. It was perfect for a family wedding/reunion of family visiting from out of State. Very clean, beautiful ocean view.
Perfect setting to sit, laugh and reminisce.

We had the perfect stay!! As soon as my family entered the house I knew it would be a great stay based on their reaction. The view was spectacular, the neighborhood was fantastic and luckily the weather was beautiful for our stay. All of the amenities were there however we spent most our time in the back watching the wildlife, otters, seals, many birds including thousands of our favorites the pelicans. Make sure to bring your binoculars. We are already planning our next stay at Sunset Palisades.

If you are looking for a great place to stay with no frills, this is it. Wonderful location and great backyard to enjoy sunsets. House was built in 50s and it is a bit funky, but don't let the age fool you. It was perfect for our family weekend. There were bikes to use, and kayaks. Be advised that there are stairs to the water, bit the staircase was blocked off due to unsafe cliffs. We would rent again for sure!

Great, wish the stairway to the water was still functional.

Amazing Views
This was a great home for our stay and the location couldn't be better. The property was very clean and well stocked. Had use of beach chairs, bikes, barbeque, and many other items that really made our trip more enjoyable. The home was fully equipped and well stocked for cooking. The view from the backyard is amazing!!! Plenty of seating to enjoy sunsets and sunrises. Overall, this is a place I would stay at again.

Close to surfbreak
Very old school house frozen in the late sixties. Comfortable and right on the water. Great tide pools below the house at low tide. There is a short surf break right out back but Shell Beach is a better option and a short walk. NO DISHWASHER!!!

Great place
The location is perfect. We loved sitting on the back patio drinking our morning coffee with the ocean waves crashing just over the lawn. Will stay here again!

Location, location
This house has outstanding views of the ocean and the backyard is the best spot in the house by far. The house is funky and fun with plenty of space, though it is very old and outdated. I wish it would have more simple updates like screens in the windows. However, the stay was very pleasant and the neighborhood is fantastic. Definitely would stay again!

Fabulous back yard
The absolute best thing about this house are the ocean views. I could sit on the back deck all day and night, gazing at the sea. Also, there hiking trails nearby.
The house is definitely “retro” but I liked it. Comfy beds and furniture.

Great for a family weekend getaway
The property was exactly as advertised. The ocean view is amazing, the house is comfortable and was big enough for the seven of us, and it was an easy walk to the beach and restaurants near by.

Can't beat the view!
The house is clean and had all of the things we needed including beach chairs and a bbq. The view is spectacular and shell beach is just a short walk away. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the weather, wine and watching sea otters, dolphins and wales. We had a very nice time and the host is very friendly. Thank you! We will be back!

Great Weekend Get Away!
Pros: The location was amazing! Beautiful view of the ocean! Clean. The beds were like giant pillows. Very comfortable. The showerhead has an amazing setting that makes you feel like you are under a soft waterfall. There was a game that we played, "Quelf", so much fun. We laughed so much. Close enough to the grocery stores and restaurants. Great community. The backyard is as pretty as the pictures. Very relaxing to sit outside and enjoy the roaring of the waves.
Cons: As stated by others, the house is a bit dated and there is no sand (beach), just rocks, so we drove to the beach, but it was super close.

Spectaular ocean view
The reason to rent this home is for the incredible ocean view, with the ocean maybe 30 feet below the edge of the backyard. Sitting outside and listening to the waves is mesmerizing.
The house is clean but old. But old can also be charming. And since you spend most of your time in the backyard enjoying the view, it is a great escape.
This is probably better as a rental to adults because of the drop to the ocean (it is fenced but I would be concerned about young kids). From an adult perspective, the view makes it all worthwhile.

Amazing views
This home was absolutely stunning! We spent 4th of July weekend here. The pictures don’t do it justice. The views from the house were absolutely stunning. I can’t get over how beautiful the view was. The Private access to the ocean was so nice & relaxing. We saw dolphins and otters from the backyard. Mckenzi was a great host and very accommodating & responsive. The home is located in a very nice & quiet neighborhood. We used the kayaks in the garage & loved it. We also met the neighbors on the left side (they were kind & nice) everything was nice and clean if I could give this house 10 stars I would. We all slept very comfortable & enjoyed our stay. Thank you Mckenzi!

Beach house
we enjoyed our trip. Every thing was clean. The house is old but it was ok for us.
The high light was the ocean view back yard. It was awesome.

Beach getaway.
This property was perfect for a relaxing family weekend. My only regret is the beach has no sand, but is instead perfect for tide pool wandering at low tide. No problem, Pismo beach is minutes away and perfect. The view is truly fantastic and we would return in a heartbeat. Thanks, McKenzi !

Oceanfront bliss
We wanted a place right on the ocean with unobstructed views and the lull of sea sounds at night and this place delivered! Wonderful stay!

Negative experience
It was meant to be two days trip, unfortunately we left after one day ,property very unacceptably dirty, rusty broken furniture with variety dirt through entire property, on top of smell of sewer, mold in the shower, outdoor furniture rusty, molded pillows and windows.
Spider webs in the living room ,bad smells towels and sheets, kitchen appliances uncleaned from prior usage ,plates ,glasses etc all not cleaned well.
In summery ,we left after one day ,my advice don't risk ur health and spend money on worthy property

Lovely Weekend Getaway!
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay on the edge of the Pacific Ocean over Easter. The house is old, but the furnishings are new and the beds were super comfortable. The location is breathtaking!

Spring. Break in Shell Beach
Amazing location perched atop a bluff looking out on the ocean with stairs down to great tide pools and close to resorts and restaurants. We saw whales, dolphins, sea otters and seals right from the backyard. Beds are very comfy.

Gorgeous underrated home with a breathtaking view
We were initially due to come here in August, which due to a last minute issue got postponed. Mckenzi, the property manager was incredibly gracious and very helpful, accommodating our needs. We finally made it here in October. The pictures do not do the house and the view any justice. It is gorgeous beyond belief. We woke up to the ocean view from our bedroom. Yes, the house is older and has some wear and tear, but anyone who's lived close to the ocean knows what havoc saltwater can wreak on a house. The rooms and bathrooms are clean, the beds, incredibly comfortable (best sleep in months!) and overall the air of relaxation just hits you as soon as you enter. The kitchen has everything you need, all devices and tools. If you intend to cook meals, bring what you need, or hit the nearby stores for supplies because once you've sat down and experienced the view with a glass of wine, you're never leaving the house. There's a huge tv so the kids were sorted. There's enough room to play and run around, both outside and in. There's even a park just down the block. And if the kids are happy, the parents are happy. We came away relaxed and rejuvenated and vowing to go back soon.

Amazing location and view
The house has an amazing view of the ocean from several rooms and from the back yard. McKenzie was a great host and was very responsive. We happened to go during a heatwave and there is no AC - it was very hot. We got some fans which helped a lot and the nighttimes were cooler. The house is dated in many ways but you cant beat the view and experience of being right on the Ocean.

Spectacular location
We loved our stay here. Like previous reviews, the house is dated, but it’s obvious they’ve changed/added the important items - new sofas, incredibly comfortable new beds and pillows, and the kitchen is very well stocked. It’s very clean and listening and seeing the ocean 24/7 is a real spoiler!

Avila Beach
Great get away place. The view is spectacular. The place is very clean in a secluded neighborhood. The house is a little dated but well organized and stocked with all necessities. Beds are all very comfortable.
McKenzi is great at getting back to you with whatever questions or needs you might have.
