Booked this stay as the last stop on our Baby Moon to relax just the two of us! We knew this was far from town so intentionally booked somewhere we hoped to feel like we didn’t want to leave. They advertised two restaurants, a swim up bar, and free shuttles into town. Overall the stay was rather disappointing.
Pros:
- Rooms are large and comfortable with great AC, we found the beds comfy and nice water pressure in the shower.
- Food at the Laguna Beach restaurant was tasty and we felt most items were fairly priced.
- Front desk was helpful with answering question quickly and booking taxis for us.
- Pool was nice and refreshing - although it was dirty. It’s just some bugs and dirt that blows up from the beach - not much they can do. They clean it often and it didn’t bother us.
- Free bikes to use!
Cons:
- One of the two restaurants were closed, but no one told us. We planned to eat there one night and messaged the front desk when we found it was closed. They told us it would be open the next day and never did. It was closed the entire 6 nights we were there for no reason.
- Pool Bar was closed for 4 of the days we were there. No where else on the property or close by to buy drinks.
- When we asked about the free shuttle we were told it wasn’t running. The front desk offered to book us a taxi, when we showed up to the taxi it was the shuttle bus but we had to pay for it. There was no free shuttle the entire time we were there, they charged $15 each way to book the shuttle bus as a taxi service.
- They had a $5 USD charge for room service which we had no problem with! Since we were far from town we ate a lot of the restaurant food. Even if we ordered and went to pick it up from the restaurant they charged us the $5 room service fee which was not fair.
- The resort itself is beautiful but a bit run down. This didn’t bother us at all, but worth mentioning to someone looking for a more luxe stay.
- NO AC anyone but your room! Everything is open and has fans including the lobby and restaurant.

It’s on a beautiful beach. And has a wonderful pool.

I liked that I had my privacy and was able to freely move around the property as I liked.
I didn’t like that the front desk receptionist, Karen, was not communicating detailed information about the resort and did not appear friendly. My room was not equipped with a number to contact the front desk which made it difficult to get clarity, unless I could have located a worker walking around to ask.

Lagoon views were beautiful especially during sunset.
There was no gym

This was our third stay at Umaya, and each time was marvellous. The facilities have been improved and look modern and comfy. We want to come back asap.
We had some issues to be fixed and that would make our stay even more comfortable, like the hot tub in our bathroom was not working, and an AC was leaking water.

very nice and clean.
undertrained restaurant staff. food quality far below the price charged and service very slow.

Pool and beach was wonderful
Bikes and kayaks were not well maintained. Bike chain kept falling off from lack of grease. Kayak was cracked and filled up with water.
Our first room had no hot water and Wi-Fi. Kitchen sink was plugged, kitchen cupboard handles were all broken and phone was not working. We were moved to another room which was better expect the AC was not working in main area (Kitchen/dining/living room). We reported broken AC 3 times during our 7 day stay. It was finally fixed on our last day.

Great location, awesome staff and the view from our room was stunning! The pool never felt overly crowded and we were always able to get into the restaurant without a reservation.
The restaurants in the resort had very limited hours so that made it tough.

We both had food related diarrhea.

It is a smal resort and beautiful situated with beach, swimmingpool and lagoon. i thinj it is ond if the best resorts to go to if you are looking for a peaceful place. A rental car is handy but not neccesary. Food in the lagoon restaurant is of good quality.
pizza restaurant is faily expencive, but great taste and flavor

very beautiful
little problem with the toilet not flushing but they attended to it right away.

location
drinks were watered down and I had to push to get a tub stopper.

The Umaya Bar cocktail and food offerings were exceptional. Fresh & delicious. My kids loved their chicken tenders. Breakfast was OUTSTANDING. Hot jacks are a must try.
Some of the faucets and knobs were needing repair. We also wish there was evening entertainment. Otherwise, excellent, well maintained grounds, staff was lovely.

Beach was great, area was quiet, awesome pool area
Mattresses needed to be replaced (sunken in the middle to a huge degree), and 2 days we were without hot water in the shower. Internet is spotty but that may be true for all of Placencia

The location right on the beach and only 20 min drive from Placencia town was amazing. the staff was wonderful. The water in the room was so helpful.
There are a few things that would have really made the stay more enjoyable: 1. We stayed in a room with a kitchen. I think it would have been amazing if that kitchen would have had a large cooking pan, a spatula, some salt and pepper, a sponge for cleaning the dishes. The kitchen had a few items, but there were some substantial things missing. 2. We are a family that is comprised of a couple of vegan eaters and a vegetarian. The restaurant had a vegan/vegetarian menu but the food was not up to par so we often ended up eating down the road at Maya Beach Resort. A lot of times, restaurants that are trying to make vegan/vegetarian options just simply take out the dairy and meat from dishes which ends up meaning that the dish is flavorless and infilling since there’s no protein. It would be wonderful if the resort could have some vegan/vegetarian options with some flavor and better protein options. 3. similarly, the snacks available at the pool bar had no vegan/vegetarian options. We would have loved to be able to order something vegan! 4. We received amazing massages. But, we were never asked to sign any kind of waiver or tell the massage therapists any information regarding injuries! And, my two children received massages as well. It was fine for us, but I worry about the liability on the resort. That’s all I can think of for now. It was a good experience overall but there were just a few things that would have made it great!

The hotel the necessary amenities to entertain guests.
I was disappointed to see so much seaweed in the beach that I was not able to get in the beach. Also the menu in restaurant was the same everyday and variety was limited. The bathrooms were very old and the bedroom doors were difficult to close.
4.3
It's rooms are very comfortable, the grounds we're neatly kept. The reception staff were accommodating.
Have stayed at Umaya many times. It seems that sice COVID many services have been discontinued. We used to love having breakfast and lunch on the beach which is no longer available. Staff in the dining room seem to be new at their profession and not very knowledgeable of service and the menu was limited. Housekeeping was minimal. We will return again as this is my favorite spot in Placencia in hopes that they bring back service amenities.
4.3
Music at the pool was good. Beds are really comfortable. Fast wifi.
Rooms are dated and run down. Furniture is all damaged and dinged up. The doors have rot in them. You can hear people moving their chairs on the floor above and next to your room. Its really far out of town even if you have a car. We had to move rooms as the first one they gave us was really bad.
4.3
The room set up was great! Spectacular ocean views. Pool Bar was fantastic! Big beautiful pool. Property very well maintained.
The main restaurant Laguna could have had a more varied menu. I wish there were more shuttles into Placencia town in the later afternoon, early evening.
4.3
The pool/beach area is great. Volleyball area, large wooden Jenga, bacci ball, paddle boards and kayaks you can use as you like, nice ocean swimming area, clean lovely beach... excellent wifi by the pool. Books to borrow from reception. It was excellent. Also, the food was really good.
4.3
great location, steps from the sea and amazing sunrises, staff were very accomadating, great roomy condo, huge comfortable beds, kayak, standup paddles, saw dolphins, rays, manatees and lots fish right out in front of the complex, great for snorkelling/swimming, huge pool and the restaurant food was very nice as were the staff
little things need to be repaired, windows not opening, noting too major
4.3
Great location, staff is exceptional but as others have said the food and drinks are a bit pricey but it’s vacation.
Can’t think of anything I didn’t like. I got eaten alive by the mosquitoes (even with off on) but I have the same problem in Louisiana.
