Melrose is first class and definately worth a visit.

Really great location, central to everything, pubs, restaurants and walks (we went to the lake and through the wood to see the waterfall). Breakfast was exceptional, excellent choice and nothing too much trouble for the staff, they were really attentive. The room was spotless with a really modern en-suite and the shower was amazing.

Honestly, couldn't find fault with the Melrose guesthouse, but we found that the majority of the eateries in Ambleside were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (both days of our stay) which limited our choices for dinner and the ones that we visited that were open stopped serving food between 7-8pm, the pubs we visited rang the bell for last orders at 10pm and kicked you out shortly after even though there were people still drinking and the town seemed to turn into a ghost town, which we thought was strange as it is the Summer holiday season and the place was packed with tourists. Would definately return to Ambleside and in particular the Melrose guesthouse, but would do more research on restaurant opening hours next time and book dates around that.

A great guest house ideally located for exploring the Lake District

The room was spacious and comfortable with a very nice en-suite. Tea and coffee making facility very good. Breakfast was excellent with lots of options for everyone. Kevin and Tracy were very friendly and could not do enough for you. Car parking was within a short walk and there is a drop off and pick up parking bay outside the guest house. All amenities are within a short walk with pubs shops and lots of restaurants. All in all a great place to base yourself

The room was really clean and comfortable; the en-suite was lovely and the shower was great! Breakfast was amazing! We had the granola, which was delicious, followed by the Cumbrian breakfast and it set us up perfectly for a day of walking in the fells. There was no need for lunch at all! The location is great. It is centrally located but not noisy and really well positioned for the shops and restaurants. The car parking is a secure, locked compound about 4 minutes away and this was perfect for us as we prefer not to park on the street. Tracy and Kevin are fabulous hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they took our soaking clothes to their laundry room to dry them after a very long, wet walk! We will definitely return

A Perfect Stay

An exceptional friendly welcome. A lovely clean, good size, comfortable room. The owners were extremely helpful with advice about the local area. The guest house has recently been renovated to a high standard, the style is modern but still cosy. The guest house has access to good parking. The breakfasts are delicious with a wide variety of options and using good quality produce.

I spent four nights here and the owners were really welcoming and made my stay a memorable one. I had an English breakfast every morning which hit the spot and set me up for the day nicely. Great location in the heart of Ambleside, really quiet all night long and there's a bus stop right outside which is handy for anyone that wants to take a trip somewhere. The room and bathroom facilities were immaculate and the shower was definitely a highlight. I'd definitely stay here again if I ever come back.

Very pleasant.

The property is well located in the centre of Ambleside with secure lock-up parking available some 200m from the guest house. This is very useful as on street parking in the centre of Ambleside in restricted to 1 hour during the day. The room was clean and compact but with sufficient facilities to make it comfortable. The breakfast choices were excellent, well prepared and presented. Our hosts (recently new owners Tracey and ? (sorry forget the gentleman's name) were very pleasant and happy to provide information and assistance.

The toilet/shower room we had was quite small. Navigating the space for drying after a shower required some contortion, however, the shower itself was excellent and well stocked with soap, shampoo and lotion.

Lovely quality guesthouse that thought of everything

Brilliant central location and the hosts had thought of everything. Really well organised and the room was great with having 2 separate sleeping areas.

A later breakfast time would have been preferable e.g.between 9 & 10 to go for breakfast also a slightly later check out time...with breakfast being at 9, 10 o clock was a bit of a rush but manageable
