This was our second stay at this location. We found the view to be outstanding and staying in a historic castle/fort fun. This facility is always in excellent condition and very clean. We appreciated having the option to rent all the beds in the room so our stay was private. Our private bathroom was perfect. The breakfast was well organized, generous, presented in a hygienic manner and delicious. The museum in the adjoining building is really great and well worth a visit. There is a wonderful restaurant available next to the museum with an outstanding panoramic view. We really enjoyed lunch there but they were totally booked for dinner. Be sure to make reservations ahead of time for the evening meal. We took the foot path down to town for dinner (the German restaurant right across the bridge was great) and the return back up the hill wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be.
We were on the 5th floor. Climbing all those stairs to your room with a good size suitcase is challenging, but the view once you arrive makes it worthwhile. Castles/historic forts were never known for elevators though, right? ;)

most beautiful place high above town, in the historical fortress of Passau’s bishops.
difficult communication with the youth hostel. first reaction was, when I called the hostel that we arrive late due to traffic jams, that we cannot enter the place. I really had to insist. then it turned out that they had a handy system with codes and key boxes. it was atavistic to see a touristic place with such lack of good will and empathy.

just everything, this was one of the best places we have ever visited! living in the highest tower in the castle, listening to opera straight underneath us and having the best view of Passau straight from the bedroom.. what can be better?
towers and views =requires many steps. very challenging to make it accessible for disable people, but still somehow possible with few elevators (not in castle itself) and system of public transportation

The location was the best! Very good idea to create a hostel into such a place. The view is stunning and the host very kind.
You have to be athlethic to walk all the way up 😁

Breakfast is quite good.
People are lovely.
Family room is large.
Great view.
Things you need to know about this place:
1. Its nowhere near the train station. It's a €20 taxi ride away.
2. Its up the top of a massive hill. Very hard to walk or cycle. About a 1 hour hard walk up a hill.
3. Once you're there, there's only one restaurant. And it's quite expensive (for those looking to save costs). About €18+ for each meal.
4. Towels have to be hired. €2 per Towel.
5. There's a lot of steep stairs in the accommodation.
6. Breakfast is quite good.
7. Staff are nice.
8. Checking in after hours was a debacle. However, we were provided with lots of instructions. So unsure if it was our issue?
9. Information listed when you book is different from the reality. After you book you get the actual information. When booking the site stated check in until 9pm, but it was closed at 8pm.
10. After you book your advised you need a PCR etc.
11. Family room is large. Great view. No fridge, kettle etc.
12. After breakfast there's no way to get coffee/ tea etc. And going into town is a long way.
13. Any mobility issues don't stay here.
14. You have to carry luggage up and down steep hills and stairs once there.
15. Only 1 washing machine.
16. If you have other choices then perhaps don't stay here.

Hostel is located at the highest point in Passau, the view is amazing. We had a very good breakfast, the staff was very friendly and flexible.
There was unfortunately no soap at our room (and we didn't like the mixture of soap & desifection at the shared toilet rooms, it dries out hands extremely - better to have both separate). The matrazes are good enough, but already amortized.

Fantastic place, reasonable pricing, nice people...

Nice staff, very good location for the hotel in general. If you come by bike you most likely have to push it up the hill as it is 22%. Other than that everything as expected.

The place stayed on top of a hill. You don't have any landscape view from windows, but with walking 3 minutes from the building you can get a beautiful view of Passau city from above.
Everything was enough clean and fair to cost. Breakfast was also great.
We traveled to Passau with Bicycle from Linz. After arriving to Passau, we were very tired and it was a little hard to climb with bicycle to the building. It didn't take too long(~10minutes) but road and uphill was not much suitable for bicycle.
Anyway after arriving, it was very comfort and pleasure.
