Amazing value. Simple clean accommodation in a historic building on the north coast of Pico. Comfortable beds, spacious private rooms, plentiful, on-site parking, excellent breakfast. Highly recommended.
Showers clean and hot but a little dated.

The breakfast was simple and the same every day but sufficient. The location is excellent, and there is a bus stop near by for those without the car and who want to venture to Madalena or elsewhere.

Great location and amazing old charming building
I wish I stayed more!

Everything was perfect!

It was clean, quiet and comfortable
Unfortunately it was far from the center of Madelena
2.5
Nice view, nice architecture
Hairdryer was missing, breakfast was basic caffeteria style. Lots of guests coming late in the evening, making so much noise… There should be house rules with silence after 22:00hrs.

The hostel is situated in a wonderful location, the monastery is charming.
The double room was clean, spacious and beds very comfortable! We also had a nice view on the ocean.
Finally, we really liked to be in Sao Roque: we found this position convenient to visit the island and very authentic. You can also swim in the natural pools in front of the hostel!
Being an ancient building, it is true that it can get quite noisy at night.
Also, we were a bit disappointed with the breakfast, that was quite basic - with little choice. But overall would recommend !

Great staff, best view from our room, very nice old monatery
As it is an old building, it is very poorly sound-proof. Also there was a festival the night we stayed. Thus we didn't get a lot of sleep, but we saw the most marvellous sunrise 😉

It is a beautiful and spacious property, located really well.
The beds are terrible to sleep in. Also you cannot borrow the kitchen e.g. The fridge or any utensils. Which really limits you food options?
2.5
Beautiful building, close to the ocean.
The bathroom in one of the rooms was really old and the toilet did not flush properly.
The second room we had was better.
3.0
The accommodation has a nice courtyard and a good location. Breakfast with rolls, cheese, ham, jam, cornflakes, coffee and juice is included.
Unfortunately there was no kitchen. WiFi is only available in one room near the reception, but it didn't even work there. The dormitories are quite cramped. The foosball table is broken.

Great location, friendly staff, lockers available and beds were fine. Very close to some lovely snorkelling spots!
Unfortunately we had a very unpleasant room guest with us, which staff were aware of and sympathetic but did not move him (or us) - meaning that we had trouble sleeping and when we did sleep it was interrupted many times. This definitely impacted our trip as sleep is important. They also limit the amount of breakfast you're allowed as well as refuse to let you take anything with you out of the kitchen. I found this weird, because if they're going to ration your breakfast you should at least be allowed to bring any leftover rations with you for lunch or something.

Everything was great, especially the cleanness. Excellent Breakfast. Amazing Maids that take care of the hostel very well. Big lockers for everyone.
They didn’t have a kitchen
3.0
super affordable and breakfast was simple but good
there is no space to sit or any communal spaces only a couple of plastic covered couches. also kitchen and no AC, which means room is hot or window open but bring bug spray

Very helpful stuff. Simple but clean rooms. Excellent location. Was really cool to stay in a quite monastery
Beds are too soft. However, this might be a personal thing

+ super clean room
+ special location
+ sea view
+ beds were made everyday
+ towels were provided
+ a lot of parking space
- staff was not accommodating at all; we ask to borrow a knife to cut some fruit and put a some food in the fridge over night, both was denied
- poorly sound proofed hallways; you could hear every one talk in their rooms
- breakfast was the bare minimum and not very healthy
- water pressure in the shower was very low
Suggestion: A guest kitchen as well as some fridges would really improve the place and hummus and margarine for breakfast would make it vegan friendly

A ancient religious building now use has hostel. With no clouds you can see Pico Mountain and S. Jorge island.
To much cold water waste until hot water appear in shower. No kitchen facilities, not normal for a youth hostel with plenty of space, no services at all (no even a coffe machine), week internet ou not working at all, it wasnt provide padlock for the locker in the room and my sun glasses and my mp3 was stollen. The staff said that the cleanning staff was on the room, than it changes his argument and says that no body was in the room that morning. No much help by the staff.

Architecture and location just the best 🌋🌋🌋
There is no kitchen, laundry service, curtains on beds

It felt something special to stay in this spacious old convent built of the local volcanic stone. I stayed 2 nights in a double room and 2 in the female dormitory which I had to myself.
Staff are on hand in reception all day til midnight. They were all really friendly and so helpful, particularly in arranging my trip to Pico Mountain.
The breakfast proved a good opportunity to meet and talk with other guests

the breakfast was amazing and the room cozy. We were off season Dm the only guests in this huge hotel yet everything was clean and welcoming
the showers are a little bit dark and creepy at night

It is a very evocative building, breakfast was good
Water was getting in the building while it was training, funny smell coming from the bathroom

Really helpful staff, great breakfast with some different offerings to the usual and really comfortable rooms. We weren't expecting our room to be cleaned but it was lovely to have towels replaced everyday. Thank you.
No kitchen but the naval club in town is a great spot and so is the casa ancora restaurant.
3.5
There were four beds in the room but not more than three were at any time occupied. The room was big enough and there were enough possibilities to charge electronics.
Breakfast was good with many options
Location: the hostel is located far away from the life center of the island. To book tours you need to be in Madalena or maybe Lajes.
Food: the neighborhood of the hostel is like a “gastronomical desert”! It’s difficult to find a good place to eat.
Bed: the pillow on the bed was really really hard, I would say, it was so hard like a piece of wood! I would recommend to put it aside and sleep on some sweater or a jacket under one’s head. It will be certainly more comfortable…
Internet: it works just in a small space close to the reception! No internet in the rooms at all!
Bathroom: clean and big but far away from the room, if necessary to use it at night…
There is something special about Azores Youth Hostels that’s not taking place anywhere else and I would like it to change it here. I realized that the beds at the hostel are being remade by housekeeping ladies every single day!! I find it crazy that in a hostel somebody decides that it is necessary… Please, I want to apply to everybody, just say at check in that you don’t need your bed to be remade after the night, that just the regular cleaning, like sweeping floors and taking out thrash, is absolutely enough! People, it’s just a hostel and not a 5* hotel…
4.5
The location, the view, the hostel in itself were incredible. People working here were very helpful and everything was kept clean daily. We prolonged our stay a bit! Would come back for sure!
Since it is an old convent, the sound travels quite a bit. At night, if new people come in and are not careful and talking loud, you can hear them quite easily.
