Amazing place! The staff are brilliant You get a whole "house" to yourself with a balcony to watch the birds in.nearby trees. Perfect for escaping into nature, forget the car a couple of days, be amongst birds and frogs, enjoy the fresh food. Showers after a humid forest walk were good, with plenty hot water. Bugs and creepy crawlies were around but kept away from us!
The drive up is an "adventure" ... you just need to take your time and have a good car! Allow at least 40 mins to get to the pick-up point from Horquetas.
Take enough clothing for your stay - dirty, wet clothes won't dry in the forest during rainy season May to Nov.
Be sure to buy a t-shirt as it also means a tree gets planted for you!
Nada!!

Fantastic accommodation, surrounded by a rainforest full of wildlife. The night walk was wonderful, we saw snakes, spiders and a lot of frogs. The blue jeans frog was stunning and we hosted some bats in our lodge too! Food was plentiful and delicious, we wish we could have stayed longer
It's a bit of a rough ride to get to the lodge but it is worth it!

À remote location in the middle of the jungle, immersed in nature. Great guide, super friendly staff. A lifetime experience!
Nothing we can tell

Absolutely loved my stay here! Amazing venue in the middle of the rainforest. Saw some great animals right on my doorstep! Also amazing helpful staff, would highly recommend

Amazing experience. Woke up with howler monkeys chatting in the treetops above my cabin. Great hikes with enthusiastic and knowledgeable employees.
Fun to try different fruits and deserts!
Something that's extra great? All the employees--the cooks, hike guides, etc--seem to genuinely enjoy their job. It's clear that they're well taken care of and appreciated.

Not easy to get to the Lodge but Pedro picked us up not far from Horquetas. Incredible experience and lots of respect for the owner Pedro for creating this lodge in the middle of nature and doing a lot for the conservation. We had a great dinner with a nice Chilean wine and also breakfast was good. The staff is very friendly. The Lodge is a bit expensive for Costa Rican standards but definitely worth it.

Five stars for this beautiful, remote, nature lovers’ paradise nestled next to Braulio GC Carillo National Park near Sarapiquì River. Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about ecology & passionate about environmental conservation and forest regeneration. Lodgings and food simple, picturesque & wholesome. Daily night walks magical and teeming with life.
We loved all of Yatama because we love being in nature, but if you want luxury & urban entertainment this is not your place! Be prepared with flashlights as Yatama is run on solar, & if it rains a lot, power is limited.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR WILDLIFE EXPERIENCE OFF THE BEATEN PATH - THEN THIS IS THE PLACE - WE ARE IN COSTA RICA THE SECOND TIME AND WE LIKE TO DO GUIDED TOURS OF WHICH WE HAVE DONE MANY PARTICULARLY NIGHT TOURS - BUT THE NIGHT TOUR AT YATAMA LODGE BEATS THEM ALL - WE HAVE NEVER HAD A NIGHT TOUR LIKE THE ONE OF YATAMA WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO SEE SO MANY FROGS AND SNAKES WITHIN A SHORT TIME!!!
PEDRO THE OWNER OF YATAMA IS A GREAT HOST: WE CAME TO HIS LODGE TO SEE A SPECIAL ANIMAL - AND PEDRO AND HIS GUIDES MADE THERE UTMOST TO MAKE OUR DREAM COME TRUE - THANKS ONES MORE FROM VERY PLEASED VISITORS - MARITA & ERNST SPECKS

Such a unique experience! Once in a lifetime in the jungle where the guides take you through the most adventurous yet wonderful night walk where you see snakes, frogs and many other species! Breakfast and dinner were incredible and the owner Pedro had a lovely gesture for our honeymoon and got us a glass of wine to celebrate! We also saw monkeys in the morning from our room and it was just the perfect send off before leaving again.

The location is directly in the jungle. Pedro and his team guided us through marvellous tours. An unforgettable experience!

fabulous location, deep in the rain forest. Super friendly staff. A very warm welcome, especially Pedro. Expert guides of the forest, especially the night walk. Juan Ramon was such a wealth of knowledge and a super spotter of wildlife. Nice compact location. Really nice place to meet other travellers too. Can’t recommend enough.
Cold showers but that’s a small price to pay. Electric supply could be on maybe a bit earlier, as it gets quite dark by 4.30pm. Vegetarian option first night was limited but did improve.

Yatama is a special place and so much more than just a simple lodging - it's an experience. We loved our time there: for the wildlife we saw, the mesmerizing rain forest, the knowledgeable host Pedro and our guide Juan. Also, we loved that we got to experience all of this with a group of lovely people - all of the meals are shared on one long table together with other Yatama guests so you easily get in touch like-minded people.
If you're looking for a unique experience and are aware the consequence (no internet, wildlife everywhere, electricity limited to certain hours) please don't miss out on Yatama!
We especially enjoyed the walking tour at night, it was one of the highlights of our vacation. Thank you so much!

A beautiful and comfortable place truly in the heart of the forest. We only stayed one night but it was enough to feel like we had left our everyday lives far behind.
Our room was beautiful with open views of the forest everywhere. Food was hearty and delicious. Our night walk with the staff who are passionate about conservation was an amazing experience. Among many other things, you will see many snakes and spiders, toucans and the endangered green macaw!

Pedro is probably the friendliest host, I have ever had. He has created a wonderful place in the nature and made our stay an absolutely remarkable experience. The two included tours were very exciting and we have learned a lot about the ecosystems and what Pedro has done to reastablish the natural rainforest on his land. Besides, we have seen many rare frogs, birds, spiders, monkeys and snakes. ;)
Also the food was really good (especially considering the remote location) and everybody was super friendly, helpful and patient.
Nothing. The rustic accommodation and the tours in the jungle might not be something for everybody, but we have enjoyed it very much and did not miss anything.
Just be aware, that there is likely no phone signal and no lunch provided.

it is a simple ecolog. but this is exactly perfect! if you want to sleep in the rainforest, hike and be adventurous, you definitely have to go there!
we make 2 tours and learned a lot about the rainforest and the animals.
the food is so good! it is worth having lunch as well since the lodge is off the beaten tracks.

Yatama is an outstanding lodge in the middle of the rainforest. We saw all kinds of wildlife from the balcony and porch of our room and even more during our night hikes and day hikes. This was a photographers paradise. They also provided
rubber boots for our hikes which were indispensable. Pedro and Luis were very friendly and knowledgeable about the environment. Pedro cooked us wonderful meals.
4.8
Interesting stay, the main interest is the location in the heart of a beautiful forest.
Special appreciation for the manager & biologist guide really top :-)
Only one 4X4 car available for the transfer up there so our little group 7 pax had to split and had to wait a long time to arrive up there

We had breakfast and dinner included in the booking. We added in lunch at extra cost. All meals were excellent local food, well balanced, good quantity without being excessive and very good value for money. Hot/cold drinks available throughout the day.
In our 3 night stay we had 2 guided early birding walks (these were extra at a very small add on cost), 2 guided morning general wildlife walks and 2 guided night walks. All were amazing. The guides were so knowledgable and friendly
Whilst we realise places like this are run on a very tight budget, if there were extra funds at any point upgrading the sleeping mattresses/pillows and linen would be great. That said, we are middle aged, and maybe young people wouldn't mind so much! Everything was perfectly clean, but perhaps duvets instead of blankets would be good. It was surprisingly cool in the rain forest. Meanwhile, take some warm pyjamas to sleep in!

Pedro is very knowledgeable, and eager to share his passion for the conservation of the tropical rain forest with his guests. We had excellent guided day hikes and night walks. They were fascinating, beautiful and informative. There are also trails easy to explore on your own.
Breakfast and dinner were excellent and prepared with love.
Can’t think of anything

location is fantastic! out of the world. night walk.
missing blanket (bit cold at night), no hot water.

Yatama is a very small lodge located in a private reserve. Pedro, the owner, made us feel welcome. He also doubles as our guide. The stay is amazing and includes daily morning and night tours. The food from Alba is fantastic.

As it advertises itself, the Yatama Rainforest Ecolodge is pretty far from civilization and is an opportunity to be out in the jungle. I was picked up where the bus let me off in 4x4 Jeep which traversed 2 metal hanging bridges as well as a makeshift log bridge over a pretty bumpy road. It is about as close to Indiana Jones as I could imagine. Of course, being out in the jungle allowed for some one-of-a-kind experiences such as watching capuchins, toucans, hummingbirds, forest turkeys, and agoutis from the hammock in front of my cabin. The walking excursions up the road as well as on the trails with a guide were quite extraordinary as well. Coatis, woodpeckers, spider monkeys, spectacular dragonflies with spotted wings...and, at night, snakes in trees, a coral snake in a frog pond, a rare horned frog, red-eyed tree frogs, black and blue hairy tarantulas, and a host of other spiders. This is the reason to come to the humid, lowland jungle... and what a plethora of life. The foliage did not disappoint either. Bridges festooned with mosses, a river "highway" enclosed by a looming canopy for Morpho butterflies, and bromeliads galore.
I am overweight so the humid.jungle atmosphere caused me to sweat profusely and walks were boiling for my body. I wanted the experience which was fascinating. It was just that my body let me down a bit from fully enjoying the experience. People who can more easily tolerate heat and humidity should not have quite the same level of discomfort which I occasionally experienced during my stay. So, this has nothing to do with the lodging as the cooling showers were a godsend and has more to do with the size of my body.

It was simplay amazing. Yatama Ecolodge is an awesome place for everyone intrested in Nature. We did several night walks with Pedro and his Luis. Both have excellent knowledge of the animals and forest around them and are extremly helpful.
We had an awesome time and it was one of the best places I ever visited in Costa Rica.
The food was excellent as well!

Incredible jungle experience. You will have creatures in close proximity. Two story cabins with bedroom and deck upstairs and bathroom and living room below. The food was unexpectedly amazing for such a remote venue. The guides and trails are 5 star. Solo hikes also possible. Staff is the best. For nature lovers, an immersive experience.
Cold showers. But this is a true eco venue. Solar power and minimal impact on the surroundings is what makes this a special place. Not for folks with a fear of insects and spiders.
