What an impressive and beautifully designed mansion! Definitely worth going!
Only 9 stars because we missed a water refill option, which should be standard by now

It is a guest house in a renovated old building. The furnishings in the building are elaborate and tasteful. Air conditioning is quite good. The breakfast is rich in variety and delicious.
It takes a little ingenuity to open and close the door lock
2.5
The location is the only good thing about it. The common areas are ok and some employees were polite and helpful.
It left a lot to desire when it comes to cleaning. Even when I requested my room to be cleaned, they didn't do it. The walls had infiltration/humidity, and I could spot several cobwebs in my room. My shower was leaking, and the bathroom was in a poor state and smelled bad. It's an old house but this isn't an excuse to have the place in a bad shape.

All ! The house got history, is spacious and beautifully decorated.
Room big and bed comfy, breakfast delicious.
And, the receptionist an educated man who knows all about São Luís.
Carnival music just around the corner, the best!
Will definitely come back !

Beautiful common areas and a building with a lot of character in a great location.
The breakfast was just okay, and not included. My room had no way to let natural light in without people being able to see into the space. The WiFi also was pretty weak in the room.

Location is excellent, in the heart of Centro Historico. The building itself is old but very charming, so expect doors and stairs etc to not be of modern standard.
Breakfast was always the same and quite limited. The cleaning left a bit to be desired.

Super hostel, very beautiful, very good location and very nice staff. I highly recommend this place!
1.5
Best location to explore the historical centre because it's smack-bang in the middle of it. The staff who worked during the day were nice and helpful. Breakfast was decent.
BUT you could easily catch an Uber there and spend several hours exploring the area if you wanted to stay outside of the historical area. I don't even think local tourists stay in that area.
The room was like a prison. Having no windows made you feel very claustrophobic. It was cheap, so we shouldn't complain but this experience was not great.
We came back from Barreirinhas and was dropped off about a 5 min walk away around 10 at night as buses are not able to get anywhere close. At that time of the night the area was very quiet and therefore felt very dodgy. Thankfully our bus driver offered to accompany us navigate the quiet streets as he knew where the hostel was.

The location
The room was really dark. Window could'nt be closed. The bathroom was small and repulsive, bad litery, and so on...(bad luck we got the room 27).

friendly staff, very helpful
awesome location
great atmosphere
could be a little cleaner in the rooms AB’s some things were broken

location is nice and the place has potential to be a wonderful hostel/boutique hotel
This hotel has been the worse in terms of cleaning standards I stayed during 3 months in Brazil.
The first room smelled of urine like the bathroom of a club at 5am. The staff has been nice to change the room in the middle of the night (we got there at 3 am). The new room was better but the bathroom still smelled like urine and the overall room was poorly cleaned. Was too late to change, plus we only had one night. So much missed potential as the structure is a old colonial house that could be wonderful.

An ideally located hostel in the centre of the old town, with 24 h access. So you can basically walk around, great food places around (restaurant Senac just at the end of the stree), you can go out at night and have drinks etc. - the whole area is very safe since there's a lot of military police around at night. Also close to the big Praia Grande bus station which allows you to use the public city busses to get around, up to the beaches for instance (there are not many taxis in Sao Luis)
The sitting area and inner garden / courtyard are very nice to hang around.
Helpful staff, and good value for money I found
Note it's a pedestrian street, so the cab will leave you like a 100 metres further up the street. No big deal.
Be advised that Pousada Portas de Amazonas and Hostel Palma merged, since they were next door to each other - I booked Palma but ended up in a room of Amazonas, which had different reviews on this site. So check out both. Rooms are ok but can be dark and a bit damp - but that's just how the climate is and the stone walls are old (and the price was also very reasonable, so you can't expect too much). The mattress in my room was old and not very clean any more, and was just covered by a simple sheet. AC worked well.

Location couldn't be better, directly in the historic center. Breakfast was super nice with everything available from fruits to different bread and juices and the room was big, clean and overall infrastructrure was good.
Best thing was the staff. Everybody was really friendly, patient an helpful during our stay, thanks a lot!
Highly recommend.

It’s very good location. Directly in the center with its charming architecture. The building of the hostel itself has a good layout. Good breakfast and nice rooms. Good for everyone who wants to experience living in the historical center of São Luis. Also has aircon in the room and the price is affordable.
My unit didn’t have functioning hot water at the time, but that wasn’t a dealbreaker as it’s very hot.

C entral location
A little hard to find due to name change
2.5
The location, the restaurant diagonally serves good buffet lunch at reasonable price.
The photos shown probably many years ago. The hostel is not managed properly. No pillows in the room, slept on the cushion instead, talked to the staff but cant do much.
No hair dryer in the hostel.
