スタッフの対応と笑顔が素敵だった!
施設案内が乏しい。お風呂が物足りない。館内着がちょっとダサい。

Clean and newly renovated. Great outdoor onsen. Very good breakfast spread... I enjoyed very much the hotplate, rice pot and the mini barbecue pot.

Room was big (especially for Japan). Beds were comfy. There was a comfortable couch as well. Big windows let in a lot of light (during the day) and gave a great view of the mountains across the road (and the deer that liked to wander past).
Short walk to the Snow Festival site.
The baths were lovely. I like that the genders swap sides overnight, so you can experience both of the bathing areas. I like that they have outside baths as well, although these appear smaller in the left bathing area.
The buffet was pretty well managed. Food was usually replenished quickly.
Got a room right next to the lift lobby, which meant I got to hear everybody that used the lifts and everyone that thought it was a great location to have a chat at 2200 hours.
I stayed 2 nights, and I had to go back to Reception to get meal tickets for the second night, instead of getting them all at once.
They seem to get a few tour buses, even in Winter, which can make the baths pretty busy.

Disappointed.. not worth te price for te hotel.. Onsens not to expectation n standard..

Very nice onsen. The room looks good, beds are comfy, and it's nice to hear the stream outside. Conveniently located not far from the bus stops, but Sounkyo is not very large anyway.
It's not nice at all to feel the cold air coming in over your head due to the non-existent insulation... I mean in a mountain resort, in 2022, to still have single glazed windows and old windowsill...
Plus the guy at the front made no effort at all when I couldn't understand what he was saying. I speak Japanese quite a bit, never had any problem, but instead of using simpler words to explain what he was telling me, he asked me to explain what I wanted again. Sure, I'm the client and non-native speaker though.

Hotel is ten minutes away from the ropeway. It's a very big hotel, with an impressive lobby and a lounge. Rooms are a bit small, but we slept listening to the sound of the river right below us. The onsen facilities are one of the best ones we've stayed. Both dinner and breakfast are buffet-style, with many different options to choose from. Very good value for money. They have a small shop on the ground floor, where you can buy local products and souvenirs.
Since we stayed over the weekend, the elevators were very crowded and often had to wait. At certain times of the day, announcements were made in Japanese (PA system, speakers on corridors). At check-in, information was only provided in Japanese (and very fast... ), but the next day a different staff member gave us the English information when I asked some questions and she was surprised nobody had given us the English sheet the day before.

The Hotel was really nice, good value for money. The onsen was really good. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style, with a good quality

Sizeable room for family, nice onsen, solid included breakfast and dinner, free parking, great location in national park
Told us breakfast started at a certain time, but clear it started earlier based on the number of people there when we arrived, and facilities a little dates

The room is a bit small but the renovation is new.
The buffet dinner is not up to standard.

The buffet spread and onsen
Going to the hotel proved quite a chore. The hotel only provides limited shuttle service from Ashikawa. Not recommended to take train to Kamikawa station and take the public bus from there as the fare is expensive and stops far from the hotel. Very strange why they don't provide any shuttle service to Kamikawa since it's the nearest train station. Location of the hotel was also bad as it's far away from the town center. They said 15 mins walk but what they did not mention is a 15 mins walk upslope. Front desk staff generally not friendly to English speaking guests. They don't smile and just give a blank stare. One of the front desk staff just shook his head when we asked if he could speak English, without getting another staff to help. The staff at the buffet restaurant Matterhorn were friendly and nice though even with the language barrier. The room has no basic amenities like fridge and bottled water, which even budget hotels provide. It is small and claustrophobic for the price we paid. If you care to open the wooden sliders behind your bed, there's dust settling there which looks like it had gathered for years. Buffet at the Matterhorn and Onsen were decent though, but not enough to justify the price.

Mountain view was wonderful from my Japanese style room. Hot spring was amazing, enjoy to watch autumn marble leaf just next to the hot spring. Very relax.
Paid expensive Japanese style room include meals. However, dinner and breakfast was buffet, foods were not any special.
