What an exceptionally lovely hostel! All the staff and volunteers go out of their way to be friendly and helpful, and as a result the hostel has a very welcoming atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place for solo travellers as it's really easy to feel at home at the hostel, particularly with the activities offered (e.g. group meals). Wonderful location and vibes, wish I could have stayed longer!

Hostal Mamacucha was my first ever hostel experience..... and one I know that will be hard to compare to others. As a young female traveling solo, I felt so safe and "at home" staying at Mamacucha. First, Colorado, the owner, ensures you feel at home and that you have everything you need. The volunteers at the hostel were fantastic, many of which grew to be my friends. The hostel offers many experiences- I visited incredible hot springs, went whale watching and scuba diving, played pool, watched movies, had fires on the beach, and enjoyed many meals with the volunteers and other travelers. A few times a week, Colorado offered shared meals, where all of the volunteers and guests were welcome to enjoy a meal together, for only $2-5 per person... and his cooking is amazing and made with love. The hostel is located a 1 minute walk to the beach, which is really nice if you like to swim, lounge on the beach, or surf (I took a few surf lessons then rented a surf board close to the hostel!) I would recommend this hostel if you are looking for something more tranquil, as Montañita is loud and filled with parties. Mamacucha feels like home, first and foremost because of the people I met here. But also because of how beautiful and calm it feels- it is filled with plants and so much greenery, so if you're a plant-lover, you will love this gem of a place. I could not recommend Hostal Mamacucha more. Cheers to the friends I made, the liveliness of the plants that surrounded me, the delicious meals I enjoyed, and the many adventures I embarked on! 10/10 experience... here's your sign to book now ;)

staff were super friendly, free water, got upgraded to a private double! nice place away from the noise
kitchen was pretty bad, and every time it rained it woke us up as it was a metal above us with no insulation.

It was so refreshing to have a large bed in a dorm shared with a few other people but with quite lot of spaces compare to most other hostel I've been. The staff were so nice and welcoming.

Super nice and cozy place! Lots and plants and very nice atmosphere. Colorado the owner is super welcoming and always helpful.
The dorm room has an AC which was really good for sleeping and you can get extra blankets if you need.
Location is great, nice and quiet but just a few steps away from the main party area. Lots of cheap eating options around and very close to the beach.
Had a great time, will come back for sure!
nothing.

The hostel with the best, welcoming atmosphere in Ecuador! The staff was very friendly and open.
It's quiet, you can easily get rest. It's 1 min to the beach. Everything you need is close.
Colorado is the most wonderful person you can meet on the way - after the long travel I felt as at home. Thank you, Colorado :)
The internet is very strong! I wish to come back just to have a small chat with them once more.

One of the best hostels in the world, everything is perfect. You feel at home as soon as you step in, everybody is warm and welcoming. The location is great, very close to everything and the beach but still peaceful and away from the general noise. The room was always clean and hot water is present all day. Hostel's restaurant has very fair prices for food and drinks. The social area just has a nice feeling to work or meet people. On one occacion there was an empanada event where all the guests did their empanadas and ate together, it was a very nice night to spend. I would stay here all the time if I could, an experience not to be forgetten.

The atmosphere in the hostel is absolutely amazing! The staff immediately makes you feel at home and serves delicious meal (vegetarian <3) place gives the option to chill out but also if you want to party it's just few minutes away from the center. It's not that you meet people there, you create your travel family thanks to the volunteers, workers and the owner. The best vibes in the whole Ecuador and the place you cannot miss!

The hostel is an amazing place, with a lot of lush green plants, comfortable seating areas, hangmats and the most incredible vibe and energy. It felt like coming home from te moment l walked in. Its great to meet people but also relax and take time for your self. A great workout/gym/yoga space that you can use as well. The best thing about MamaCucha is the people that work there. Colorado (the owner) is such a wonderful guy with heart for the place and the people. He was always ready to help, had great tips and even took us on a great montainbiking adventure in the jungle. This place filled my heart and these loving memories will stay with me. 1000% recommend!

The people were nice.
Room really smelt of damp, wasn't very clean and there is no option for natural light which makes it seem like a cave. Air con was also really loud. Wouldn't recommend.

The owner was helpful.
The hammock was comfortable which is in front of the room.
We could check-in at 11 am.
Montañita is loud and noisy, especially on the weekend.
Montañita is super hot and hard to survive in the night with just a weak fan. Even the new fan did not help. We recommend an A/C.
They did not offer any tour which is highly mentioned on sings on the road and in the description. They just offer them out of their mood.
The free-coffee was the worst coffee I ever drank in my life.
9.6 / 10.0
Mamacucha is a really chilled, friendly little place just outside the noisy frenzy of Montanita's main streets but still only 2 mins walk to the beach. Great kitchen. Hammocks. Free coffee.
Our bed wasn't great & felt like it was about to fall apart!
