Fantastic few days at Hidaji, we were very well looked after

Fantastic few days at Hidaji. Beautiful spot in the mountains, one of our favourites stops during our holiday in Japan. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, we felt very well looked after. Lovely room with private Onsen, well equipped, nice toiletries and Dyson hairdryer. Large onsens can be reserved impromptuly, lovely to relax in with Mountain views and nice to experience a larger onsen as a couple. Food was fantastic, you are served in a private room within their restaurant area. It is quite an experience, an opportunity to try some great local Japanese cuisine. Arrive hungry! You are certainly well fed. We visited mid March and certainly needed the snow tyres on the hire car as had a big snow fall while there. We took advantage and had an afternoon ski session down the road at Hirayu onsen ski area, small choice of runs but fab snow, relatively quiet and was able to hire all equipment at a very reasonable price. Takayama approx an hour drive away, well worth a visit, loved all the Hida beef snacks.

Pleasant, restful and peaceful

Everything, the staff, food, room, onsen, environment The staff were extremely welcoming, courteous and helpful. We would like to thank one particular staff who even helped us start our rental car when we couldn’t get it to reserve. We didn’t manage to get his name but I hope the management will be able to duly commend him. thank you Hidaji

Exceptional

The staff was extremely kind and accommodating especially with us not speaking Japanese. They strived to always make our interactions special and warm. The room private onsen, and shared/reserved semi private onsens were perfect for relaxing. The kaiseki meals of regional foods were a great and adventurous experience for us westerners. It was overall a unforgettable experience that we will never forget!

One of the semi private onsens was a little too hot for us. The food for all our meals were similar, but being regional/local cuisine there is only so much that can reasonably be served.

Perfect place to get engaged!!

The overall experience at Hidaji was incredible and restoring. It was in a beautiful and serene area with beautiful side roads and trails to explore around the area. The onsen in your room is always at a perfect temperature and so relaxing with full privacy. We also experience the other onsens provided at the hotel and they were a little less private but still enough so that you felt comfortable, and had really beautiful attached rooms to relax in and keep your stuff... The meals were unlike anything I have ever had before. You are brought to your own private room to dine where the attentive and kind staff provide beautiful multi-course meals created with fresh local fruits, vegetables and meats. It was flavourful, unique and unforgettable. The entire experience was unforgettable and I will hopefully be back again one day.

There wasn't anything to dislike. I do not have a complaint about this hotel. They went above and beyond in all aspects of our stay. We felt comfortable and taken care of the entire time. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Superb

This ryokan excedeed our expectations. If you want to find peace in the middle of the hida mountains this is it. Beautiful private and semi privare onsen. The best part of our Japan trip!

A beautiful private oasis of an onsen!

A truly beautiful place to stay with absolutely gorgeous private onsen and wonderful semi-private onsen. The food was absolutely delicious and prepared beautifully. The staff were so helpful, polite, welcoming, and hospitable and the rooms were very comfortable. A must stay in place for amazing service and beautiful scenery!

Amazing onsen, food, view, staff, ryokan experience.

Amazing ryokan experience in Takayama region. The onsen is gorgeous and you get a full view of the Japanese Northern Alps. The staffs are friendly. The food is delicious. I definitely recommend people to come check this place out! I recommend people to drive here instead of taking the bus. There is free parking on-site.

The most exception dinner, delectable dishes made with local ingredients. One of the best onsen ryokan dinners and breakfast I have had! The public onsen has a beautiful open view of the serene mountain surroundings, we never had to share with anyone and the ryokan was quiet and peaceful. The best service by the hotel staff.
