WINTER WEATHER/ROAD CONDITIONS: Winter weather conditions and the amount of snow or ice that could affect your trip to Hawks View House cannot be predicted. Many factors including the severity and duration of the winter weather, as well as the type of vehicle you are driving (2 wheel, all-wheel or 4-wheel drive) along with your level of expertise in driving in these conditions, are all variable factors. One downside of a wintery wonderland (if it does snow) is that it’s not easy to drive in. There are many variations of a snowy road from black ice to slush (wet snow), and frozen snow to powder and everything in-between. The main paved subdivision road up to the house (1/2-mile single lane uphill) and the gravel driveway (400 ft) to Hawk's View House are not maintained by Mitchell County and although some snow plowing and scraping may be arranged it is not guaranteed.
WINTER WEATHER POLICY:
We want your trip to be safe and for you to have a penalty-free option in case there is inclement weather for your dates, and you are not able to check in.
If it is determined through short term weather forecasts prior to your arrival that it is likely road conditions could impede getting up to the house, then a 100% refund can be arranged via the following steps:
1. "With our approval" you may cancel your non-refundable booking and then we will override our cancellation policy and give you a full refund which will also include any VRBO service fees. At the time of your cancellation your dashboard will state no refund, however, you will have to trust the process stated here on our listing if you want a refund for inclement weather.
2. Due to the HUGE penalty a host incurs for cancelling a guest reservation we will not cancel on our end.
3. This full refund does not apply if you have already checked in and are unable to safety negotiate the road out until conditions improve.
HOUSE RULES AND POLICIES: The person (guest/renter) making the reservation must be at least 25 years of age.
NO PARTIES OR EVENTS: We have a limited area for parking and are not set up for parties or events.
PETS: Pets are only permitted at Hawk's View with prior approval and FEE ($20 per night., $10 2nd pet) A signed pet agreement is required.
SECURITY CAMERAS: For your safety, our home has exterior security cameras that monitor the driveway and rear yards and sensors which monitor the opening and closing of doors and windows.
CHILDREN: We DO NOT recommend Hawks View for toddler age children. Children should be watched at all times: Children are welcome however guardians should take care to watch their young children very carefully on the decks and surrounding property, which is steep. Please email or call before booking if you have any questions about making a reservation with young toddler age children. Older Children should not be allowed to roam the 4 acres unsupervised. Renters that have children or guests under the age of 18 acknowledge by signing this agreement that the owner has informed them of the dangers of the decks and property and is held blameless in the event of injury.
Check-in is at 3:00 PM. If you would like to check in early, pre-approval is required if the house is available. If you are unfamiliar with the area, we strongly advise that you arrive before dark. Renters assume all risk for "late” arrival.
Check-out is at 10:00 AM.
Cleaning and Repairs: Please notify us of any cleaning problems or maintenance/ equipment problems within 1 hour of your arrival. If you are a late arrival, please contact us before 10:00 AM the next morning. If we are not notified, we will consider everything was found to be clean and to your satisfaction. We will make every effort to correct any problems at once, but due to the workload of service personnel or parts availability, we can make no guarantees that repairs will be accomplished immediately. Due to the high elevation of the house, along with mountain storms and winds, TV and internet reception is not guaranteed.

We returned to Hawk's View after visiting 10 years ago to celebrate our anniversary. It is by far the most beautiful view I have ever seen in a Western NC house. The linens and towels were high quality and the beds were very comfortable. The owners have put a lot of thought into this rental and it showed. We appreciated all your effort and upkeep to the property. Oh... and I loved watching the birds! We even saw an Indigo Bunting at the bird feeder. -Kate and Jeff

I cannot say enough about this spectacular cabin. The pictures/descriptions on VRBO do not do it justice. The views are breathtaking. It is quiet and peaceful. And the cabin is the most well stocked cabin I have ever rented. The owner was so easy to communicate with and had thought of everything to meet her guest's needs. The cleanliness was above and beyond. Absolutely the perfect and best rental we have ever had with VRBO! You should check it out.

Amazing house in an amazing setting, everything about this place was perfect for our getaway. We typically explore the areas that we visit quite a bit, but on this trip the house was so comfortable and interesting that we hardly left the property! Can't say enough about the decor, this owner has a great imagination and the decorations sure prove that. Even up to our last day we were finding neat little gadgets that made us smile. A++++ across the board.

We’ve been staying at Hawks View for years, and are never disappointed! Cynthia has continued to update the cabin that enhance our stay over that time, and has always provided us with everything we need to make us feel at home no matter the season!

Hawks View has been on my list for some time and Oct 2023 our schedules aligned. We were very comfortable at Hawks View! Cynthia was a pleasure to coordinate with. Driving directions were clear, the extra guidance through the in-house notes (e.g., which light switch is which) were very much appreciated, well appointed amenities, and incredibly comfortable King bed. Then there is the view...there are not words it must be experienced. We enjoyed sunshine, rain, being above the clouds, and magical sunsets. Thank you, Cynthia for sharing Hawks View we had a wonderful time!

We had a wonderful stay at Hawk’s View. Process was easy to get into the property. We set our navigation and we’re a little confused when we were on the road but look at the notes the owner had sent us in email and easily walked us through it. The cabin is everything you want to enjoy the nature around us. I love to cook and the kitchen as well as the grill we’re perfect for cooking. Sitting on the porch to watch the sunset every night made for a perfect trip.

This is an absolutely beautiful property that pictures do not do justice! We will return again. The host was wonderful and timely in response.

The house is beautiful, and the views are phenomenal, even in the rain. We enjoyed a few days away and were able to relax comfortably at the house in between rainy hikes. We’d definitely come back!

This is a unique property with spectacular views. The house has been lovingly and beautifully decorated with folk art. The furniture is streamlined, but very comfortable. You won’t find any heavy plaid or bear upholstered furniture here. This was one of the most well-stocked kitchens I have ever experienced at a VRBO.
I certainly hope to come back in the not too distant future.

Wow this house and property were amazing! It is so peaceful and atop the mountain with no other houses in site! We could not get enough of the view! The house has everything you need and was very clean and comfortable! The location was perfect for us between Boone and Asheville about an hour’s drive each way but such scenic drives in all directions. The house overlooks Mt Mitchell which is the highest mountain east of the Rockies! Hope we can get back there someday!!!

The views from the home are amazing. Quiet and gorgeous without a neighbor in sight from the back deck. She has bird feeders around the deck and we enjoyed watching all the beautiful colored birds hang out and eat. There was a large covered deck perfect for drinking coffee on the one rainy morning we had our stay. Plenty of outdoor seating, including a large hammock and a swing.
The home is clean (I am super picky w/ cleanliness) and has all the supplies you need to cook, watch movies, play games, extra linens, etc. We felt right at home.
The home is also very cool - a ton of artwork around the home and I felt like I saw something new every time I walked into a room or sat and looked around. She did a great job decorating - we loved it.
I had to work one afternoon and the internet worked great and we could stream tv late at night. She also has blue tooth speakers in the home and you can pair up your phone and play music.
We loved our stay and had excellent communication with Cynthia. She checked in on us before and during our stay. She provided excellent details on all the "how-tos" of the home and a great list of local restaurants that came in handy as we explored the area.
We have this on our list as a must visit again home.

Here are the words that come to mind describing what it feels like to be at Hawk's View--
The confluence of earthly delights and heavenly beauty with its whiff of humor makes us forget the reason to be anywhere else.

Loved the porch!
Hawks View is a lovely cabin with amazing views! Cynthia has thought of everything and is so easy to work with. We spent the majority of our time out on the porch enjoying the hammock and the gas fire pit in the evenings. The location feels secluded but still close to Spruce Pine and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Our daughter and our Doodle loved the small trail around the house! Such a great idea and we felt comfortable letting her explore once we realized it was marked (with colorful bottles) and led back to the driveway. We hope to back soon!

Perfect Thanksgiving Holiday with Sister Family
Really hate to write this review! Have stayed at Hawks view at least 6 times and love it more each time. Getting harder and harder to get in because others have already found it. If I tell the truth, we will never get to have Thanksgiving there again.
A PERFECT beautiful, private retreat. Fortunately we have been able to already reserve next Thanksgiving, so do not even try. Also a week in the early Spring.
Cynthia is the perfect Hostess and very easy to communicate with. We are both in our late 70’s and can easily entertain ourselves on the deck by the FirePit or inside with a roaring fire in the fire place. There is lots to do in the area but for us, the remoteness and privacy are perfect. Only went down the mountain 3 time in the 10 days we were there.
What can I say - pick up your significant other and really enjoy each other in the bit of heaven in the Blue Ridge.

Truly stunning! Gorgeous cottage and views
The ride up the steep one lane road and driveway was thrilling, and what a prize at the top! The house is like a fairy cottage, with fun classy/funky art that gives it so much charm. It was well stocked with all the comforts of home, clean and bright and sunny with large windows. We spent most of our 4 night visit sitting on the wraparound porch- everywhere we sat offered a breathtaking view. Most spectacular was how the view changed with the weather throughout the days. The owner sent us excellent details about the house and the surrounding areas, she was very helpful. We will definitely return!

Return Visit Still Excellent
This house is a treasure. Everything you need, entertaining and whimsy decor details and a stupendous vista. We spend most of our time on the porch and there's little reason to do otherwise.
While it can accommodate more we prefer to keep this exquisite experience all to ourselves. We may consider our beloved dog on the next visit. Thank you Cynthia for sharing your home in the hills.

Hawks View House Review
The Hawks View house really is a little piece of heaven! While we did venture out during the day, my favorite part was returning to the house to watch the sun set (even if we couldn’t see much because of the clouds- although they were enchanting in their own right). Multiple times during our stay I found myself saying, “man, they have thought of everything here!”. I think the property owners have done a wonderful job of welcoming visitors into your house and have stocked it with just about everything you might need. My boyfriend and I will definitely be staying here again!

Awesome home
Hawks view is beautiful and has the best view of the mountains. The owner was very organized and had everything for your stay. We loved the art and crafts throughout the home and the wood stove was great. Our dog daisy loved the property too. This Vrbo is five star property. Thank you for sharing your home. We enjoyed our weekend there!

5 Star vrbo in the Blue Ridge Mountains
Hawk's View house is exactly as described on Vrbo! The sunset views from the front porch are amazing. The house has a quirky charm that is unique and fun. This is the cleanest Vrbo I've ever visited, you can tell it is well taken care of. Cynthia is a most welcoming host and was always quick with a
response to any questions. The house seems very secluded even though there are a few other homes on the mountain. This is a good location if you are looking for some peace and quiet, but still want to be a short drive to the Blue Ridge Parkway, hiking, fishing, waterfalls, Grandfather Mountain, Blowing Rock, and the 3 ski resorts in nearby towns. The house has everything that you need for a relaxing vacation. Can't wait to book again and see what other season have to offer here at Hawk's View!

NC mountaintop retreat
We had a wonderful stay at this property. The whole family loved the incredible views and the house layout. We appreciated the two fully-stocked bathrooms with fluffy towels and the fully-stocked kitchen. So close to Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and Linville Caverns. Our girls enjoyed gem mining only 15 minutes from the home. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with thoughtful extras!

Absolutely great place to stay while in NC. Place has ‘to die for’ views and the nighttime sky is simply breath taking. The interior design and architecture alone are stunning enough to keep you pleasantly happy indoors. But the second you step out of this wonderful home you understand why you choose here to vacation. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I’m conclusion we thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would recommend staying here to everyone! Thank you letting us enjoy your home Cynthia, we seriously had an amazing time!

The Best!!!!
My husband and I stayed at Hawks View House for a week. We stayed here 3 years ago and had to come back. The views are literally perfect brushstrokes from God and the house is clean, outfitted (you truly don't need to bring any spices, etc.), and beautiful! The beds are comfortable, the towels fluffy. The great hiking nearby, the waterfalls, and just plain relaxing were perfect for us. There are no neighbors you can see. You really don't want to miss this one.

It’s all about the porch, for me.
I was stubborn and thought my GPS would take me to Hawks View House, it didn’t. Just remember remember to follow Cynthia’s directions. It is an amazing property, planned to the most minute detail, but the views from the porch were what moved me.
You can tell the owner has lived there, and responded to the comments from guests. The blinds on the porch are one example. I found hooks for a hammock on the porch, but too late.
We ate breakfast and dinner at the property most days, and went on excursions during the day. I would have been perfectly happy sitting on the porch and watching the changing view. Sometimes weather, sometimes cloud or fog, and sometimes it was the blue/Smokey haze due to the terpenoids.
I feed hummingbirds, so I enjoyed cleaning and filling the feeders. Some may not know that the little birds are susceptible to mold in the nectar once it becomes cloudy. My birds are very quiet, but the Hawks View House hummingbirds are very vocal. Google told me this could be for a variety of reasons, such as defending their territory, announcing the location of nectar, or just being happy. I chose the latter.
We also had young cardinals fighting their image in our vehicle rear view mirrors, a few goldfinches, and some birds we couldn’t ID, possibly juncos, and some titmice. One morning before seven I surprised five wild turkeys within two feet of the porch. We saw several deer as well, but missed the hawk.
The kitchen had everything we needed, but I did notice the fridge seal kept keeping it from closing. The grill worked fine for a nice ribeye from the Ingles, which is a great grocery store down the hill in Spruce Pine.
The beds were super comfy and the linens and pillows exceptional. I used the big fluffy blankets early one morning on the porch, and they kept the chill at bay. It was with great regret that I discovered the gas fire pit too late.
For me, it was all about the view from the porch. I wish I could have brought my pup, but he is double the size limit for Hawks View. I can’t wait for the opportunity to visit again and get snowed in.
I thought offering the local honey to guests for what seemed a fair price was a nice touch, and I look forward to enjoying it on some toast with my morning tea.
Thank you Cynthia, for allowing me to enjoy this little slice of heaven for a few days.

The Best = Hawks View
After twenty-five years of traveling and renting homes with my family, Hawks View is the absolute BEST!
The house was sparkling clean, extremely well-stocked, and decorated with an artist's eye to details. Local places that we loved and will go back to again:
-Lowery's Barbeque (on Friday nights they have a delicious fish fry)
-Crossnore working weaving museum and gift shop
-Maggie Black's Pottery
-Picnicing in Banner Elk
-Moses Cone Memorial Park

Gorgeous mountain views and the birds were spectacular, but watch for creepy and inappropriate décor
First, let me comment that I have never written a review on HomeAway or any other vacation site even though this is our 4th stay at a vacation home thus far. Upon first arrival of the Hawks View home, the owner notified me via text that the upper room air-conditioning was not working and that she can schedule a service repair, so we can use the back-up wall a/c unit in the room for now. My wife and I graciously declined the service repair because we did not want to get bothered by any repairman during our stay.
The pros were the gorgeous sweeping mountain views and the variety of birds was spectacular! I have stayed at several different mountain homes and the views of this home were by far the best we have seen. The owner had an amazing setup for the birds, with many different bird feeders and foods for the birds.
The cons were the creepy and inappropriate décor that represents death and evil that encompassed mostly the area of the top loft floor and upper bathroom. A lit up “Born Under a Bad Sign”, skulls, skeletons, and dominos lined up on the top walls of the bathroom… A vacation home is supposed to be relaxing and peaceful and not influenced with such creepy décor. I myself had around 3 sleepless nights, from these disturbing decorations. If that is a joke, we found nothing funny or entertaining about it. We never imagined in a million years that we would see something like that decor in a 5 star vacation home.
Google research revealed the following for the lit up “Born Under a Bad Sign:” According to Astrological signs only the signs of Capricorn and Scorpio are considered bad signs. Well the owner Cynthia has a photo id of my driver’s license that reveals my date of birth. So coincidently or not, I was born in the month of July that is the bad sign of Scorpio. The Zodiac sign is ruled by a Tarot card ruled by the Death Card.
Scorpio is represented by the Scorpion in Astrology, a passionate water sign that is often associated with Death. The polarity is negative and spirit color is black. So that explains the skulls and black and white skeletons. Our present society predominantly associates skulls with death and evil.
The dishware was mostly all chipped and cracked. This included coffee/tea mugs and dishes. These we did not expect for a 5 star rating stay. So unfortunately, even with all the gorgeous views and birds, we will not be repeat customers.

Really good experience and awesome property!
We had a wonderful time at this quaint property with spectacular views! The property was extremely clean inside and out. Nothing was lacking...it was stocked with anything you need from spices in the pantry to laundry detergent to even a stapler if you need one. It is set up for all kinds of birds and butterflies and even chipmunks to come visit so that you can watch them from the beautiful porch. The property owner was always very helpful if needed and stayed in contact to make sure everything was ok. She has instructions and notes all over at the exact spot they are needed so that you don’t have to refer to a book every time you need to know something. And the views! There’s no way to describe them, you just have to see for yourself. The pictures online are exactly what you get. I could go on and on but suffice it to say you will not be disappointed with this gem of a place.

Better than advertised!
The house was immaculately kept, the views were even more stunning than photographed, & the owner was quick to respond through our whole rental process. The lightning bugs put on such an amazing show every evening that it looked like paparazzi in the woods. Never once saw a mosquito. The winds keep the porch cool the majority of the day. The beds were super comfy. Great place to stargaze too! Just can’t say enough. You won’t be disappointed!

Hawk's View Cabin
We had such a great stay at your home. We thought we would go out and explore during the days, but we just ended up staying at the house and looking at the incredible view. The light would change, and at times in the morning, it was foggy, all so beautiful. So we cooked a good deal and drank wine out on the deck. Just R & R and my husband never does that. What a gem you have in your cabin, such an incredible site. Thank you for your hospitality; we hope to visit again. Next time we will bring Alexa to play music out on the deck, maybe Santana and Nick Drake’s Pink Moon!
