Great location, good size, very clean with the amenities we needed i.e. washing machine.

Great communication between the host was excellent. Appreciated receiving a map with real pictures to help us locate the unit.

Would have like 2 extra sleeping pillows.

Terrible - avoid !!!!!

it was by far the worst room we got in a month long Italy trip.

The first thing we noticed when entering the room was the terrible smell it had. It is also important to add that we saw the cleaning man arrive 10 minutes before our checkin time. When we tried to contact the owner, he barely responded, and treated us with disrespect (told us to open the window, "it is a nice evening"). The shower ran out of hot water after 15 min. We later noticed that the bad smell comes espacially from the bed and it having stains. After not recieving any help from the owner ( he told me it's strange without adding anything else), we decieded to leave the room asking for a partial refund. The owner only told us that we are disrespecting him and blocked us without offering any help. I strongly reccommend spanding a few more euros on hotels nearby and avoiding this place at all cost.

NOT worth the money.

Convenient location close to main square & ferries port. Our flat had windows with lake view.

Broken shower head and water temperature flactuating up and down, making shower uncomfortable. Owner knew both of the above weeks ahead, but did not fix, since several previous reviews in booking.com mention them. Not very clean bathroom. Needs upgrading. No mirror in the rooms. No curtain on the lake view bedroom window. Sun enters early in the morning and in summer the window becomes very hot. Sun goes directly on the bed and it is not comfortable. Loud noice from cars is coming from the street window, which is a very old window and therefore not soundproof. Very expensive 2 bedroom flat for what it offers. Luggage storage was at a fee. In other prime/central locations in Como city and Bellagio, which are more luxurious and popular destinations, we paid less money for each night during the same week at 4* hotels, had brand new rooms & bathrooms, a lot of facilities, 24hr reception, bicycles & luxury toiletries & daily water bottles for free, breakfast and other in-room services vs Varennahouse flat. Must mention that Varenna house has only 1 bathroom in each flat. Our booking via booking.com was for a deluxe 2 bathroom flat, but it does not exist. The description in booking.com is wrong & misleading and it has not yet been amended by the owner, even though i send this info to the booking.com assistant.

Good

The location was amazing, on the waterfront with lovely views. The apartment was spacious and well kept. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The apartment had a clothes washing machine.

It was difficult finding Vanini 5 because we were looking for a hotel desk, rather than a doorway with key boxes. The shower stall was plugged up, but we found drano to clear the drain. The shower stall was severely mildewed and bleach could not clean it. It was 18⁰ and the heater would not come on. We found out from the fellow that brought us a space heater that by law the heat cannot be turned on until November.

To get to the apartment you had to climb a very steep path. Anyone with any type of mobility issues would not be able to get to our particular unit.

Ok—could have been better.

Good location.

Some in our group of 4 never had a hot shower during the 3 days we were there. We sent the host a message about the broken toilet seat early the first full day we were there but never received a reply.

Didn’t meet expectations

The unit was clean, but very small. Bathroom was a decent size though.

Was difficult to find apartment, then once we finally found it, we couldn’t find anyone to check in. Had to go next door to the pizza restaurant and they called someone for us. Unit was further from ferry and train station than we had read. Bed wasn’t comfortable and there was no covering for the window. We couldn’t get the cooling unit to work, and it was very warm and humid in the apartment. There was a family upstairs that was very loud, scraping furniture across the floor, kids yelling and just noisy in general. I realize that’s not the fault of Varrenahouse, but, it was bothersome to say the least.

not what I expected as description of facilities advertised on booking.com was untruthful

location, clean, facilities were good and ground floor was great.

first, why would anyone book a 2 bedroom apartment and not require both beds to be made up? then, the apartment I booked on booking.com said “terrace”; if you do not offer a terrace, do not put it in the room description- it is deceitful. to be told “did you look at the pictures?” is missing the point.

- No hot water - Concert in town, so we couldn’t enter town with a car. They could have at least warned us. - Payment doesn’t go through booking, so I had a hard time trying to wire the money

Great location and stunning view.

Location of house ***** EXCELLENT!! View from the house STUNNING (You will never tire of this view) Me and wife stayed here for a week and loved it. The house had everything we needed and more. Air-conditioning in both bedrooms worked really well and was needed. The house is next to piazza San Giorgie and is alo close to Varenna Ferry Port in the other direction. I can highly recommend this house as it's right in the centre of Varenna. Everything you need is around you and no more than 5 min walk away. You won't be disappointed with it. A photo of the view from the window has been added to my review.

One small thing. The bathroom wooden floor has been damaged by water coming from the shower and is starting to smell of damp. A new floor and shower cubicle and it will be excellent. This is not a negative, but if the floor and cubicle are left it will deteriorate and end up a big problem.

Great location

Excellent location and view of the lake.

Broken toilet seat. One of the shutters on the kitchen/living/dining/sleeping area didn't close so it was difficult to keep the room cool due to solar gain. Daylight made it difficult to sleep past sunrise.

Wonderful stay at VarennaHouse

The lodging was wonderful! It was centrally located so we could easily walk to the town square, the ferry and shops and restaurants. The host was very friendly and kind, walking us through the lodging and making himself available for our questions. I especially appreciated having A/C during the warm days...what a gift! I would highly recommend VarennaHouse, it was a pleasure staying there and would love to stay there again!

View incredible, you could spend all day just gazing out the window

Cold shower, and shower that clogged up with water in the bottom. No coffee or tea sachets provided, and plenty of ants on the benches

Exceptional

We absolutely loved our stay at Varennahouse! The apartment was very comfortable, had a nice kitchenette, and the balcony overlooking the lake was the best part! The apartment is about a 5 minute walk to the ferry dock and restaurants! Then less than 10 minute to the train station. If you plan to eat dinner in Varenna it is helpful to get reservations! We had to buy a bottle opener and left it for other guests! We would love to stay here again!

Good for a short stay

Well located and very clean room. Easy communication with the owner.

When booking the rooms, please do pay attention to the specific room type. The pictures don't mention the room type and it's easy to get misled. The handles on the door and the flush in the toilet were broken during our stay. It didn't cause any issues but just leaves an impression in your minds even though the place is spotlessly clean.
