Larger breakfast as cycling the NC 500 would have been nice

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and we also ate in the restaurant in the evening which was fabulous. The staff were very welcoming and friendly especially the lady running the place who worked so hard to ensure we were looked after.
The room was quite small with not much storage space. OK for a couple of nights when just passing through the area. Our first night was peaceful as not many guests but the second night there were guests in the next room with their bathroom backing on to our bedroom with a very noisy extractor fan which woke us up at 6am as the guests used the bathroom for a considerable amount of time. The in room tea and coffee facilities could do with being better organised, had to plug the kettle in on the floor and fill it using the cups as it wouldn't fit under the tap.

Friendly, helpful staff. Very comfortable & quiet stay. Lovely breakfast 😋.

Lovely staff, adequate accommodation at a good affordable price.
My room needed a little attention; missing/broken shelf above sink-nowhere to place my soap bag etc. additional rails to hang wet towels in the bathroom would be good.
No plug near kettle so had to boil kettle on bedside table. Very difficult to fill the kettle as sink so small; either a smaller kettle or supply a bottle of water with which to fill kettle.
Bar area was cool, needs to have a warmer atmosphere; there was a fire but it was not on!

Inside of hotel was better than the outside suggested.
Room was a bit on small side but met our needs.

As a vegetarian with Celiac disease I was impressed by the flexibility of the staff and chef in providing me with a very acceptable evening meal - perhaps I should have checked the very fish-based menu first, but I was saved having to spend time finding a restaurant after a day travelling, so staff efforts much-appreciated.
Room a bit noisy due to being on main road, but that is to be expected.

breakfast was very good
Very loud room. it was a saturday night, so there were party people in the street. the room’s window was not tight, possibly broken, so it did nothing to make it quieter.
the shower is designed that you have to stand under the cold water until it gets warm, or flood the bathroom.
the staff described the single room to me as very crappy, maybe the other ones are better.

I have to say the food was very good 👍

Breakfast was full Scottish and was good.
We booked a double and were given the worst room in the hotel on the third floor. There is no elevator and no porter so you have to lug your suitcase up 3 flights of stairs. It was a triple room with slanted ceilings and it was impossible to sit in bed and read or watch tv because you are in an uncomfortable position with your head and back folded over. We bumped our heads every time we sat up. It was definitely a creepy vibe. The room was also very dark with a tiny window and very little lighting. The bathroom was small and not very clean. There were few outlets and we had to crawl on the floor to get to the outlet under the night stand. The TV was tiny and had few options. Worst place we stayed in for our 18 nights in Scotland. I asked to change rooms but was told none were available. They did offer to try to find us a room elsewhere but I knew nothing was available since I had already checked. We were also told we couldn’t eat in the restaurant because it was fully booked. What hotel doesn’t give preferences to actual guests? Just another negative in my opinion.

convenient for ferry
hard to find, no/limited parking, hotel tired and needs updated

Everything was clean and comfortable. Staff were very pleasant. The breakfast was very good. Hot shower, comfy bed.
First thing I had to do was to tighten the nuts holding the toilet seat on, so that needs looking at. The room itself looked a bit tired, but was perfectly serviceable.
Apart from that, this is a very good hotel, reasonably priced, in a handy location for the ferry to Orkney.
