The staff waas really friendly and helpful. The rooms are pretty nice and clean. Plenty of private baths that we can use for free. Food was decently good as well.
Amenities in the bathrooms are quite lacking and looks very old. They provide packet soap and shampoo but the bottled soap/shampoo looks pretty bad.

The staff were extremely pleasant, and we enjoyed this authentic ryokan experience. We had a room with a hot spring bath, which was lovely. The food was excellent

Breakfast offers a good variety of tasty dishes.
The place is located in a quiet village a few minutes drive away from the more touristy group of onsen ryokans, perfect for walks along the creek at the back of the property or an easy hike up the hill.

Amazing food and onsens. My first ryokan experience and it was really special. Host gave us a lift to the bus stop when we left, much appreciated.

Dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the spas were so relaxing.
Not super close to the main Kurokawa town.

Great food. Variety of private onsen is the most satisfying factor I would recommend the place.
Old facilities. Sanitary ware should be replaced as I can see stains all over the bath room and toilet.

Fabulous little ryokan - the first night we had the whole place to ourselves and had the pick of the onsen which was amazing! There are three baths you can enjoy with your partner or family until 11pm with a simple system - if the wooden plaque is hanging up, that onsen is free and you can use it. If the wooden plaque isn't there, pick a different bath or come back later. The gendered open baths are lovely and open 24 hours to use, no plaque system, just walk in. We saw a humming bird enjoying the camellia tree in one onsen, what an experience!
Foodwise there is something for everyone in the evening kaiseki meal especially if you go as a group and can swap things around with each other. The dinner and breakfast varies slightly each day, Meat-lovers can enjoy horsemeat sashimi (rich taste like venison), a pie and cooked beef. Plenty of rice too. Lots of veggie things as well including steamed tofu, salads, soy aubergine and more. For fish lovers, there is no shortage of delicious things! Sashimi, shellfish, salt-crusted skin-on fish, etc etc. For breakfast again there is a variety and for meat-lovers there is ham and eggs! If all else fails, there's a handy convenience store just a few minutes walk up the hill. My husband doesn't eat most fish and was just fine.
If you want sake, beer etc, you have to pay for it but it is such good sake :D
The staff speak a limited amount of English so if you have some very basic Japanese you will get by just fine. Once you're checked in and they've sorted a dinner time with you, you're left to enjoy everything as you wish. They'll sort a breakfast time with you when you come for dinner. If you're not sure what things are in the kaiseki meal just ask!
There is parking if you've rented a car. Everything is very accessible by car in the area but there's a bus stop right outside too, so this ryokan is a great and affordable choice for the onsen ryokan experience.
Some of the baths have rough surfaces so just be mindful. The log is nice and smooth though!
Some people commented in other reviews that the decor was a little tired - we did have some stains on the sliding cupboard door but otherwise the place was clean and well kept. For old style Japanese housing this is pretty normal. It certainly didn't detract from our stay.

The place is just a few minutes drive from the onsen street. The staff may not have the best English proficiency but they are all very friendly and try to communicate using simple English and body language. The private onsen can be assessed within the opening hour whenever it is not occupied. It is very tradition and gave me a nice sleep. The dinner was well served and quite yummy though some Japanese dishes do not fit my personal taste. It can surely fill your stomach. It was also an interesting experience watching the staff helping to make your bed after dinner. Breakfast was fair.
The onsen bath place is a bit primitive. For the onsen I went to, there’s one two buckets for your to fill water from one cold and one hot water tap at the same time, making it hard for my company and I to bath in the cold weather. However it’s fun to experience.
