This is the best place I have ever stayed in OITA. The house is very nice and very cozy. It is very warm and the place is very beautiful! Even my mum and dad who do not normally say anything was very vocal how much they love the place. The owners were very helpful and very warm people too. Just a note that you cannot go here without a car because it is in the middle of the forest. But renting a car and going here was the best decision we have made for our whole Fukuoka trip!
NOTHING!!

Big loghome with a lot of facilities. Love host the most. Host is so kind and helpful. Really close to Kurokawa onsen.

Joli chalet en bois et vue sur la forêt.
Voiture indispensable. Très mauvaise connexion au wifi.

Unique place
Bathroom and toilet was good
No chairs or even cushions, and no mattresses for the futon. Very basic.

The host is nice and friendly. The environment is so relaxing.
The WiFi is not strong enough.

Close to nature and away from the buzz of the city.
Can be hard to find if you are not driving.

it was a cottage in the woods so it was a different experience.
First, I was taken aback when I arrived for check-in and had to carry all our towels and trash bag from the reception into the cottage. This cottage was the most expensive accommodation during our 2 week trip which involves staying at 7 hotels throughout Kyushu and we didn’t have to do that at all other places.
There were some dead insects on the floor of the cottage and a cotton-bud on the bedroom floor. We were told no shoes in the cottage but they did not provide any house slippers, the only hotel not to do that. Thereafter there were lots of flying insects invading the cottage and after I closed the windows which I found partially opened after entering the room, they could still get in. We chased and killed at least 10 insects at one go.
Thought it was advertised under the standard cottage that I booked that we would have 4 single/ bunk beds, I entered the bedroom to find out that it was futons and that I Had to make the beds. You certainly would not expect that after a day of traveling and when I am on holidays, that I have to make the beds on arrival. if I knew that it was futons and that I Had to make them, I would never have booked this accommodation. Under the standard cottage description, it said 4 single beds or 2 futons, so since I paid for 3 people, I wouldn’t have expected the option of futons. The futon was also Stained.
After making the futons, found that they were very thin and can feel the hard floor. So had backache.
So, unless you think you are not on holiday and want to slog it out from the perspective of “adventure”, then this accommodation is suitable. Becoz there are other places to stay where they have futon service, it is made up for you and you can’t feel the hard floor and it is not stained.
Other than that, like what the reviews say, the owners are very kind, helped us make dinner reservations, but sorry, not enough to make me want to endure this hardship.

location must by car

The couple were the best hosts. They helped us with everything, from advising us on the best onsen, to driving us between the accommodation and Kurokawa. It's a beautiful place to stay and we loved it.
We did not have a car and we were very lucky that the owners were so friendly and drove us around, because it is quite a walk from the onsen town.

The most lovely thing I like was a staff, I would call "Obasan" (おばさん). She was so kind to me. Eventhough she is not good at communicating in English, at that time, she tried to do by using translation App. About the house, the size is quite big that we can open our lugguges widely.

a bit hard to locate the hotel

The staff is very friendly and helpful especially when i face difficulties in winter time. Really appreciate their help on finding snow chain for my tyre as i don know it will snow heavily during my stay there. After seeing news in the tv, only realise the time i arrive, it snows heavily in 10 years.
The cottage is very comfy and nice for family getaway.
Location wise very near to Kurokawa onsen and Kuju ski resort but itnis better if you have a car.
They should have inform me to pay when i went into their office as I also forgot that it should pay at property as all hotel i booked via booking.com is auto charge to credit card. Lucky i was 25km away when I saw their message as i am on my way to fukuoka or else i think i just bank transfer to them 😅
This cottage dont suit for winter time as onsen also not availabe as it is frozen.

Large cottage that could fit 8 of us. The kitchen and dining area was comfortable. Plenty of space for the kids to explore, if not for the bad weather...
More clear instructions should be written in English, for example for the bathroom heater. The main power switch tripped several times when we were using multiple kitchen appliances.

The owners are really very friendly! they took me to the city two times with their car. They brought me coffee and snacks on arrival and helped to carry my heavy luggage. Private onsen for a small sum was really just great and beautiful!
The cottage is cozy and has everything you might need.
The only disadvantage is the location: up the hill with a heavy luggage and in the darkness (the cottage is in the forest) for around 25 minutes from the city center- it’s a lot.

The friendly owners went out of their way to be very helpful and hospitable. They were waiting for us when we got off the bus so they could take us and our bags to the cottage. They dropped us back in Kurokawa for the Onsens and the next day for the bus out. Lovely private onsen on the premises for use in the evening.
The owners went out of their way to help when I left my camera at the property too.
Highly recommended.

The hosts were so kind. This place is a little ways from the main onsen area. I had planned to walk with my luggage, but they were kind enough to drive to into town. The cottage was immaculate, quiet, and comfortable. great wi-fi.

middle of nowhere

We didn't have breakfast at the cottage.
While we sort of knew the cottage is located somewhere in the wood and out of the way, we didn't expect it to be quite inconvenient for a short trip, especially because we don't drive. The cottage was kind enough to provide us with free rides into the main town during the day. Unfortunately, all services including local taxi stopped working after 5pm, and thus we had trouble finding a place for dinner and getting around after 5pm. The owner did pick us up after dinner as it was late and cold outside, so we were very thankful. I'd only wished to have seen Kurokawa Onsen lit up at night.

Very comfortable, stay in the forest!
House hosts are very nice! When we rent the outdoor Onsen, she is free for us! Thank you so nuch!
Too many little ladybugs in the house!

Lovely place. Great to be able to unwind and spend time in such a beautiful area. It was an ideal location for going to the rugby in Oita but also for visiting the onsen in Kurokawa.
Despite the negatives, we enjoyed our stay here and would recommend.
There was hardly any consideration for Western needs. No knives or forks, no furniture at all - despite the confirmation stating that futons were in place. It was sit on the floor, or outside on the deck...
There was also nowhere to put any clothing - we had to use our suitcase. I know, most travellers do, but we were there for 3 nights and moving around Japan, so it would've been nice to be able to sort our stuff...
