Our best cottage holiday ever
The Carraigin Ban is a place in its own league - The best cottage we ever have spent nights on a holiday. On our arrival we were very well received in a personal manner by the hosts, John and Judy. And throughout our week long stay they cared for us in every manner. On our arrival Judy had baked irish soda bread for us, and we were give access to their lovely herbs and vegetable garden. Fresh harvest every day - what a gift. We were given good tips on what we could do and see in the surroundings. Always at hand, ready to cater for whatever we might need. You can't find better hosts for a cottage holiday, and we felt just as much as friends, as paying guests. The cottage is equiped with whatever you may need for a long stay. Wasing machine, dishwasher, a fully equiped kitchen - you name it, it's all there. The place is situated in a quiet and peaceful rural area with a nice wiew over the Lough Mask. In front of the cottage there is a barbecue area were meals can be enjoyed - if the weather permit (during our stay it was too cold) The pictures give a good impression, but in reality it's even more cosy. Make sure you check out the local shop, post office, and social meeting point, T.J O'Toole. I have been writing reviews for more than tens years on booking.com. This is the third time I wished I could have given more than 10 points.
The beds were OK, but we could feel the springs. We use the duvet as padding, and with that upgrade we sleept well all week.

spacious warm idyllic cottage
it was far more spacious than in the photos. we loved the location the views and the warmth of this gorgeous cottage. John and Judy were so incredibly helpful and friendly and we will definitely be back to enjoy some more lake activities.
tv was limited to just Irish stations (which tent to be a rubbish) so be sure to bring some good books and maybe some cards and board games

Wonderful break!
Carraigin Ban is a sweet, spacious, comfortable house (that still manages to have the feel of a cosy cottage) that is perfectly situated for exploring so much of beautiful Mayo eg. Westport, Castlebar, Cong, Achill …… I could go on! We stayed a week & wish we had another week. Easily enough to explore with the perfect base. Judy & John were warm, welcoming & helpful. Definitely hope to return some day.
Nothing!
