The Location..The Partisan Bakery below was amazing.😃
No Wardrobe only 4 hooks,no coat hangers, complained supplied 4.No drawers for clothing.Minute bathroom & no products,e.g.soap etc.complained & He delivered body wash/shampoo.Settee was cramped way 2 small for size of room..& various random chairs were uncomfortable..Stairs were more challenging than We should have expected..(as We are able bodied)e.g.tight spiral shaped very awkward/dangerous for transporting suitcases up & down..This apartment was so bad after 2 days We vacated & booked in at a nearby Hotel..Rustic as described is no excuse for not providing basic comforts..

This place is a history-nerd's dream. It is perfectly located above the lovely Partisan Bistro, on a street with amazing dining options and grocery options. It is a 10-15 minute walk to the heart of York's attractions, ranging from the Viking Centre to the iconic Shambles.
As you open the door the kitchen is to your immediate left, with the washing machine in a space directly to your right. Proceeded by living room and the stairs to the bedroom. Upstairs is the bedroom and bathroom. These stairs are also a bit steep and rickety, so hold onto the railing. There is a very helpful guide to the Apt and York on the living room table. Cleaning products are provided. I did have some questions and walked down to the Wheelwrights office and Julie was wonderful and extremely helpful.
The bedroom is absolutely the main feature of this apartment. You are immediately transported into the past, and it made me slightly emotional. And with the street maintaining the majority of its' original structures, it is a beautiful view from the windows. Photos simply do not do it justice at all. All the original features are just incredible.
Overall it was a lovely stay. I would stay at one of the apartments again.
*This apartment is not accessible to disabled or mobility-impaired guests.*
Retrieving the keys is a bit of a muddle if you arrived by public transport and with a lot of luggage, and is a bit complicated with a bit of back and forth. Especially with the keys placed on mismatched numbers in the main box.
The steep stairs up to the first floor apartment are a bit of a struggle with big luggage bags, but luckily it is just one floor up. (I have a heart condition that slightly hinders my mobility, so it was a slow journey up and down.)
The apt door is a bit fiddly as the key needs to be turned multiple time in the lock to open up, as well a lot of jiggling when locking the door. You may hear a lock click, but had to make doubly sure that the door was actually locked when leaving.
(The washing machine is a bit faulty as it clicks back onto 60 degrees, despite one clicking the other temp options, so it was a bit of a guessing game as to whether my clothing would shrink or not.)
The biggest issue I had was with the the bathroom. At first, I thought that the tiny bathroom door was just a decorative piece. I was extremely surprised at how small the bathroom was. This would be a very difficult space for plus-size and taller individuals, which is quite disheartening. It is a struggle to even stand in the space and close the bathroom door. The sink is tiny and there is no place to keep ones' toiletries. Again, the shower is small and there is no shower basket in which to keep toiletries either. I bonked my head multiple times bending down to pick up my things from the floor. It seems suitable for one person. (I do understand the Apt is built to keep original structural features and would allow limited renovations.) This was the only very impractical part of the Apt.

Directly above an excellent Bistro. Central to everything. Very clean and tidy. Clear instructions on how to acces the key etc. Lovely apartment.
Couldn't find the hairdryer. Listed toiletries but nothing other than toilet roll. Luckily, we brought our own. Parking was away from the building at a daily cost.

location was perfect. Lots of places to eat & drink on the doorstep. Short stroll into heart of York. The ease of parking in Nunnery Ln was a big plus. Key collection was a matter of minutes away, and quite straightforward.
It’s not suitable for anyone with mobility issues, ( steep stairs, very small shower/ toilet area).

Lovely old place. Very nice. Fantastic vegan food cafe downstairs. Bit noisy at night but that was not owner's fault as that came from a pub. Very close to centre of York and very handy for the train station. Best bit was we could bring our dogs too.
Would certainly stay there again when we next come up to York.
