Excellent ski out location to Tsugaike Kogen.
Checking in was quite stressful and seemed like a major imposition to staff. The shared accommodation room info provided to me was incorrect. Someone was in my assigned bed and the door code did not work. Finding anyone at the front desk to address these issues was a challenge. Once resolved and I gained access to the room, it was very dirty and questionable how often cleaning was done between guests. Used towels and discarded trash from previous guests were found on the floor in the corner of the room. 5 people sharing a cramped space without adequate space to store luggage. There are no facilities to lock up personal belongings.

+ FOREMOST: GREAT STAFF super friendly and helpful
+ Good breakfast which is included in the price, good variety for vegetarians
+ Ski Room and dry room, ski-in/ski-out and Rhythm returns on premise.
+ Good prices in the restaurant and bar which partly makes up for limited amenities in Tsugaike
+ GREAT shuttle service both for skiing (8am) and Apres ski for dinner in town
+ Shared bath cabins were clean
- Breakfast can be repetitive after the first couple of days
- Limited facilities for cooking your own food (which for a place with a backpackers' vibe would be a good practical touch and also good for vegetarians)
4.5
Right on one of the main mountains, staff were extremely helpful, great environment to hang out after a big day, shuttle busses into town at night

A great place to stay with very comfy large double beds. Slept well every night !
The location is fabulous with an easy ski-in ski-out to the lifts right from the side door.
Great menu at the bar as well and some fun cocktails.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to make our stay great.
Good roster also for pickups and drop offs at night to the Hakuba area for restaurants/bars.

Dust in the rooms

可以直接滑雪出入, 有接送,夜晚可以出去周圍食飯,有車去各大雪場。 公共浴室數量夠多,而且乾淨。
早餐可以更好

Breakfast is a buffet which is decent.
Coffee is excellent.
More Christmas decorations please!
On a more serious note, new and bigger storage organization for ski gear would be a good investment.
It's a bit tricky finding a spot if you're not one of the early ones back.

Great location. Very close to the base of the slopes and shops around it.
Spacious rooms despite small bathrooms. The overall vibes are great with friendly staff.

Great location for skiing at Tsugaike. The free shuttle service makes it easy to get to and from the station, and around to other resorts! The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable. The free breakfast was great.
Didn't see any instructions for the washing machine, but was able to figure things out.

The staff were extremely accommodating, and it felt like they went out of their way to make sure our trip went smoothly.
At times it felt a little loud, so maybe a little sound proofing would be good. Also, I could tell that the staff cleaned the rooms, hallway, and common space, but something just felt like it wasn't 100% clean, I can't really explain it.

Everything about the hostel was excellent, and the facilities offered went above and beyond the expectations for a hostel of this reasonable price. The room was sizeable with plenty of storage, the hostel had 2 bars with pool table, darts and more which provided entertainment and a great place to meet people as a traveller. The location means it is a ski in/ski out to the Tsugaike ski resort. Free shuttles to pick up and drop off at both bus stations and other ski resorts were excellent too. The staff were super friendly too, and the food provided at the multiple restaurants were both excellent and reasonable. An incredible hostel experience that will unlikely be topped on my travels.
A tumble drier to compliment the free(!) laundry would help as the only way to dry clothes was a smallish line in the dorm (hard to share between 3 or 4 other people!)
4.5
Location is good, good environment and good staffs. convince for skier/snowboarding.
If hotel could provides or even sells the slippers will be better.
Sometime the drying room is not works well, the boots is still wet after one night.
The breakfast is monotonous, but you can not require more for this price

Great atmosphere for meeting people and I loved the free buses to the ski hills.
Dorm rooms were pretty tight and not great soundproofing from the bar to the sleeping areas.

Location, value
Whilst some of the staff were incredible (e.g. Nelly at the front desk and Bisho the driver), others were less helpful/friendly. There was a weird mix between customers and staff.

The staff went above and beyond to make our stay very memorable. From assisting with logistics such as transportation to their friendly attitude I would recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.

The phat packers is THE place to stay in hakuba. The owners really understand the importance of creating a good vibe. When it comes from the top down it radiates through the entire staff and guests and makes a very comfortable and enjoyable stay. They understand the value of customer service which really augments the experience! if you stay here you’re going to have fun. no two ways about it!
The phat packers is very removed from the nightlife district of hakuba. They do well offering free shuttles into town. However the last free shuttle back is at 9.40pm which is too early to fully enjoy hakuba’s nightlife scene. The alternative (taxis) are too unreliable and hard to find to organise, which puts a dampener on the experience. This could be easily fixed if they ran 1 late night shuttle at 2am, i would be happy to pay 500¥ for it. Even if it was only every second night.

Staff are all super friendly and accommodating. Great ski in/out location for Tsugaike but also convenient hostel shuttles to other resorts. Free breakfast every morning. Spacious rooms and super comfy
Dorm rooms are kept unlocked, so little peace of mind for security. Would also be great if hair dryers were provided

Great location, price and friendly staff. Stayed for a week. Highly recommend.
Better signage for shower blocks. But otherwise no major complaints.
4.5
Staff are friendly, place is clean , location is good as well
That room's toilet does not have a bidet
If there are more options available in the future for booking single rooms that would be grand

The staff were very nice. It is located right next to Tsugaike's lifts.
It had a fraternity house vibe to it. The shower area could have had more frequent care.

Amazing place and friendly staff. Really good value for money considering its location. Also the nicest beer in town and the ramen is the best I've ever tasted.

One of the best hostels I’ve ever stayed at. Staff were amazing. Great bar and restaurant. Big rooms. Food was epic. Ski in ski out was perfect. Shuttle buses were a god send. Can’t wait to go back.
