modern facilities and grwst location
breakfast wasnt great and very expensive

Large fully equipped self contained rooms, daily towels and friendly staff
Property parking too far from residence and no access to snow removal equipment for cars like shovels & brushes.

Our experience at Hakuba Hatago was absolutely exceptional! It not only met but exceeded our expectations in terms of the attentive staff, ideal location, and impeccable cleanliness. Personally, I found the complimentary evening wine to be a delightful touch, adding an extra layer of enjoyment to our stay. I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and without a doubt, we will be returning for another stay in the future.

The bus was close by
No water for the rooms. It was really difficult to find places to eat. The cafe onsite had basically nothing. The footpaths were icy, they had an open ditch with no protection… you wouldn’t find that a similar priced hotel. Given how expensive the hotel was, it was very lacking of basic amenities.

Fantastic rooms, very helpful staff.
Location, as expected, close to Iwatake although a hike from Happo.

Very comfortable and convenient to the bus
Taxi required after shuttle service

The accomodation was lovely and very nice.
Unfortunately the accomodation is not as central as we hoped nor are the shuttle busses accessible frequently. Very hard to get around without ordering a taxi which is costly. The accommodation should really think about offering their own shuttle service. Also breakfast was confusing as if you were not in the building that breakfast was served you had to pay. Strange as we don’t get to choose the building we stay in. Not a lot to eat in the area. Only one restaurant and a 7 eleven up the road.

Our room is very spacious, clean and well maintained. The common area by the reception is lovely. The property provides free drinks/sake and small nibbles during our stay there. There are also small onsen bath that we could use and that is really nice especially after a long day of skiing. The staff is also very accommodating and always help answer any questions we had.
Can’t fault it.

Staff were absolutely lovely and very accommodating. The room it self was comfortable and well-appointed. Breakfast was delicious, varied and filling! Toiletries and towels were changed each day.
The air-conditioning unit was small, extremely noisy and did not affect the temperature of the room. Although it didn't bother us, noise travels in the building and you can hear people outside your room moving up and down the hallways.

Loved this hotel, or rather, guest house. Unlike a typical hotel room, the concept of Hakuba Hatago Maruhachi is "home away from home" which is why our room (the smallest they had) was 40-45sqm and included a small kitchen with washer+dryer and cooking appliances. They have 2 private onsen on the property which were amazing (and free!), a stone bath and a 24/7 reception facility at Hakuba Happy Hours where you can grab drinks and hang out - lovely concept!
Breakfast is served into your room fridge the day before so you can cook it yourself in the morning, which we really enjoyed (there wasn't much cooking involved, just heating up). The location was also great - a short walk from the best restaurant we've been to in Japan, and you can see the mountains just as you exit the hotel.
We visited in April which is considered off-season (both skiing and summer seasons) by public transport. As such we had a hard time finding a mode of transport around town so it would be great if the hotel had bicycles available to rent for its guests. That being said, our host Ami was most helpful in finding a place we could rent a couple of bikes in town, as well as driving us there+back, and to the train station on our last day!
Another con was that the mattresses seemed to be made of rock lol - they had absolutely NO spring/give. However the front desk gave us mattress cushions which solved the issue. Was a bit funny though.

Love the quaint setting in older buildings. The shared space was really lovely although we never got to enjoy it much as there were always others using the space too whenever we went in.
The onsen downstairs in our building was a really lovely bonus 👍🏼 great for tired muscles.
I also loved very much hearing the sound of water from our window when we stayed in the He room. It was great to fall asleep to it.
Our booking was good value for money, hope to be able to return in the next season at similar prices! So convening if you have a car as we are in between all the ski fields.
The rooms we had were a little dark, especially at night it was very dark with only two spotlights facing the dining bench. It would have been better if the room was better lit.
Also, I thought there would be Netflix for us to log in our own account, but there was none. A Smart tv w Netflix would have been great. The mattresses were also very very firm.

Very bad.
Very bad location. Different to find. Room is spacious, but dark and cold. Breakfast is included, but very bad quality. Hot spring is included, but difficult to get there.

From the staff so friendly, the amazing place, to the fancy room. I had a great experience and good rest during a bicycle trip through The Alps.

The room was very well fitted out and well designed in a historic building. We stayed at the black themed room - it has a mix of modern and industrial vibes with authentic Japanese touches. Clean and spacious bathroom and well equipped kitchen which was a delight after a long day out. A walk in closet was available with a heater.
There were 2 private Onsen that you could book out for private use in the building and also a communal kitchen that you could reserve if you wish to cook up a big meal. Complimentary wines are available in the very comfortable communal lounge.
Shuttle buses to Iwatake and Happo just outside of the door, but the butler team was also very kind to pick us up from Tsugaike after a long day.
We booked the stay with half board, and we definitely recommend dinning in the restaurant. They provided the breakfast in your room the day before and you have to prepare yourself. Dinner at Shoyu Maruhachi (Hotel restaurant) exceeded our expectation every single night. The food was fresh, authentic and very tasty. At least 5 courses were served nightly, and they changed the menu every day. Those were honestly some of the best meals we have had in Japan and the staff showed true Japanese Hospitality.
Butler service was exceptional and it really enhanced the experience staying at this place.
As we were celebrating a birthday, they even went out of their way to pick up a cake upon request and even left us a bottle of Hakuba made Sake as a gift from them.
Overall, an amazing experience with great value. We won’t hesitate to stay there again.
The only downside is if you wanted to go to Goryu or Hakuba 47, the bus ride is a bit of a trek as you have to take 2 shuttle buses with wait time in between. Could take 1.5 hours 1 way, but renting a car could solve this issue.

We stayed in mixed western and Japanese apartment. The kitchen is well equipped and you can prepare meals as you like. The convenient store is in walking distance. Free wine and drinks. The staff is very helpful and all our problems have been resolved (the first night we were accommodated in the an old rice granary, open to guests two weeks earlier, new furniture and equipment but without window ;/ ). After our complaint they changed the room to another one with windows. Dinner at the restaurant is excellent, but they have only one dinner set. We stayed for three nights and it was possible to exchange the set (already paid) for the a-la-carte menu. Anyway, a reservation is suggested, especially around 7 pm.
The area is beautiful, especially in winter and night.
