This private house belongs to a musician family, it’s delicately designed by Geoffrey Bawa, we stayed at the master bedroom which occupies whole second floor with living area and bedroom, and the sparking point is the balcony, it overlooks the lovely garden. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. What a comfortable hotel and unforgettable experience.
There are many ants in the bathroom.

There are nice house, quiet garden, and staff who took good care of us. Antony the senior housekeeper with great manner toured us around the house and taught us to call a tuk-tuk taxi with meter. European breakfast was tasty. The bathroom (we stayed in the father's room) was beautiful with natural light.

Staying here was a real treat for our last night in Sri Lanka. Very comfortable and the staff were friendly. Good value for money, especially considering the Geoffrey Bawa connection.

The unassuming entrance gave way to a delightfully tranquil and architecturally interesting space.
Anthony and his colleagues made the best breakfast we’ve had in Sri Lanka - their Sambol and Dahl were great!

Manager was professional, and knowledgeable about the Bawa designs. Also, when a mistaken charge was made, chased me down to rectify. I much appreciated that.

Famous architect’s work and the most helpful staff working on site. Can’t thank Anthony enough. Had a great stay and can’t wait to come back soon.

The entire team of De Saram House is so sweet and helpful. They made our experience even better than expected! It's a beautiful house and we even got a quick tour of it. The backyard is a great reading spot and the Sri Lankan breakfast was very good!
Our time at the house was great! We only have a couple of small things to mention: a) There was no cleaning of the room after the first night, which is ok, but we needed more water and soap already. b) The ceiling in the bathroom is moldy. c) We were not offered the Sri Lankan breakfast on the first day, just saw another guest having it. The Western breakfast was not good, you should always offer your traditional - and delicious - local option for a true experience.

Unique property. I loved being ‘immersed’ in Geoffrey Bawa architecture. It’s really beautiful. Lovely staff. I didn’t need breakfast but they kindly served me coffee before I left.

We loved staying at De Saram House. It very much feels like an oasis in the very centre of a very busy city. Anthony and the staff were very nice and accommodating. Even though we did not include breakfast when booking, we decided to have it at the house and the Sri Lankan breakfast, cooked that morning, was honestly one of the most delicious meals we had all trip.

The stay here was amazing! The staff is very friendly and welcoming, the rooms (and the whole hotel) are beautiful and unique, our breakfast was delicious. Highly recommended!

The property is a hidden gem. It seems like the managers of the Trust have kept all the nice parts of the house for themselves. The central lounge room, which is an integral part of the house and its’ marketing is permanently locked for the Trust’s exclusive use . Furniture has been stripped from guests rooms again for the Trust’s exclusive use. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful. The rooms are lovely and the dining room is pleasure to sit and eat in. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. Anthony is the most professional of them all and the only one who appears to speak English . The manager was not present during my 5 night stay,
The photos show a beautiful guest lounge room with a piano and elegant seating . This room is very prominently located in the house but permanently locked and guests are told it is ONLY for the exclusive use of the Geoffrey Bawa Trust. There is no lounge room for guests. There is NO signing for the property which makes it impossible for taxi’s and anyone to find, as it is down a private driveway. The gates to the property are permanently locked, so every time you want to enter and exit you have to find a member of staff to unlock the gates, which is very annoying. Visiting guests are also made to feel unwelcome.

This is a very charming hotel and an oasis of calm in the city of Colombo. There's plenty of places to sit, relax and enjoy. I stayed in two different rooms and they each have their own charm, albeit the Queen room was a little small (if traveling by two) and the bed less comfortable than in the King suite, which was truly beautiful.
The staff was welcoming and able to arrange for an early check-in which I appreciated after a long flight to Colombo.
The payment by card did not work even after several attempts (my card worked just fine everywhere else). So I had to settle the final bill in cash, which was inconvenient.

An oasis of calm in the centre of frenzied Colombo. A typical Geoffrey Bawa house: long clean lines, earthen colours, architected frangipane tree. An open sided sitting area bounded by tall trees, where we saw a rare Indian paradise frycatcher flitting about every evening: brilliant blue head and a dazzling white body and long tail.
Anthony, the butler, and Sujeewa, the house boy, gave us excellent, personal service. Convenient location: Bank, grocery store and bar /restaurant within a short walk.
Could do with a mini fridge in the room. Had to ask the butler to chill our drinks.

Historic house in one of the best neighborhoods of Colombo. Great staff: Anthony is worth the staying.
Good breakfast.
Unfortunately many mosquitoes.
An improvement could be to add the mosquitoes nest to the bed.
Otherwise everything perfect !

Lovely three bedroom boutique hotel set in a historic former family home in the centre of Colombo. Staff excellent and helpful. Provided their contact number to ensure they were waiting for our return. Very peaceful oasis of calm within a busy city. Excellent breakfast (including gluten free option) specially prepared for us as the only guests.
Difficulty in finding the establishment - It is 100m to the left of Jetwing Colombo 7 - Look for the 61/6 sign on the post next to the drive and then go all the way the end of the drive.
City centre location so woken early to the sound of city life waking up (including the adjacent school and temple) - Unfortunately this histories building does not have modern sound proofing (nor should it).
