About this house rental
Spend your relaxing beach getaway in our recently remodeled and updated 2 bedroom, 1 bath property on the water in San Diego's unique community of Ocean Beach. Enjoy our perfect location on the fenced back yard patio including several sitting areas, an outdoor table, a gas grill, and a door leading right out to Dog Beach. (We love dogs and do not charge extra for pets!)
Your vacation experience starts with an off street parking spot right in front of your door.
Just inside the door is the newly remodeled living room with a brand new couch and 50" 4K Smart TV. Fiber wifi and cable are included, with streaming apps accessible through the TV. The couch has a convertible bed for additional guests as well.
Down the hall is the larger of the 2 bedrooms with a queen sized bed (new Serta iSeries 2.0, new bedframe and nightstands), a TV with Roku and a large closet complete with an assortment of fresh robes and slippers. There are extra blankets/pillows in the closet.
Further down the hall is the spa bathroom complete with tub/rain shower, vanity space for 2 and a glass pedestal sink. The shower is lined in slate style ceramic tile trimmed in slate and limestone and the vanity area and back splash are glass mosaic tile. There are plenty of fluffy towels to pamper you and a powerful hair dryer.
The back of the house features an open area including a new kitchen, dining table, and lounging area with a door out to the patio. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, appliances, and utensils for your convenience. The adjacent lounge has a small couch, lounge chair, a wicker rocker, and another flat screen TV with DVR access.
The second bedroom houses adult extra-long bunk beds along with a built in desk and another closet complete with fresh robes and slippers. Its window looks out onto the patio and back yard. There are also 2 twin air beds with linens. The pillows are encased in hypoallergenic covers that are washed after each use.
Walk out the back door and you will find the renovated patio with deck, gardens, and plenty of options to enjoy the outdoors. Relax under the sail shades or soak up the sun in lounge chairs. Here guests may also be greeted by our friendly resident pup, Kairo. Outside the back gate is our newly constructed game area. Horseshoes anyone? Just beyond is the paved path out to the beach adjacent to the San Diego River estuary, a wetland sanctuary for birds such as blue herons, snowy egrets, pelicans and osprey. The beach on the left is for people and the beach on the right is Kairo's favorite spot, a unique off-leash area for dogs to run, swim and socialize!

Worth noting:
Like all of Ocean Beach and much of Mission Beach we are less than 10 miles from the airport, so planes do travel overhead. We have insulated the walls and roof of our property, and the City of San Diego requires that take-offs and landings cease between 11:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. Most guests say they seldom notice the planes inside the unit though for some guests they’re a mixed blessing. However, watch the skies closely and you could catch a glimpse of a fighter jet from nearby Miramar Air Force base which was the setting for Top Gun.

It was a wonderful place with lots of accommodations. It was a stones throw from the beach and walking distance from tons of great restaurants. It was only 10 to 15 minutes drive from many of SD attractions.The backyard was beautiful and an excellent place to hangout when staying in.
Would absolutely rent again.

We had an amazing stay at Greg and Clara's place Wanderlust Oasis. It was so nice only being a few minutes walk from the Dog Beach and downtown Ocean Beach. It was so relaxing and a very comfortable place to stay. We were able to bring our 2 fury family members so it made our 16th Anniversary celebration complete to have them and our two sons their as well. Thank you Greg & Clara!!

The backyard and easy access to the dog beach made this the perfect place to stay with our dogs. The owners thought of everything you would need for your dog including a dog wash station, bowls, and blankets. The home is clean and comfortable. In addition to the beach, It is an easy walk to coffee and restaurants. We will definitely stay there again.

our unit#1 was on the ground floor and there was another unit upstairs, which was not mentioned on the website, otherwise we would not have rented this place.
By the time we came back from a walk on the beach at around 5pm, someone upstairs and the noise from children and dogs was very noisy. The sound of running footsteps made a loud sound just above our heads, and it didn't slowly quiet down until after 12 o'clock. The first night experience was terrible.
the next morning, I could see more clearly that several areas of the beds were covered in mold. What was even worse was that the bathrobe I wore was very dirty, and found most of the seasonings in the kitchen were expired, and because there was no dishwasher, we put some dishes in the sink to wash by hand, Unexpectedly, the sink was completely clogged, and we had to use the toilet plunger to let the water flow down.
The lids of some pots were covered with a thick layer of dust. We took some photos and videos.
We reported to the host the issues and we left. Fortunately, we found a room in the hotel del Coronado.
For the sake of health, we sincerely hope that VRBO should stop listing this property.

We absolutely loved our stay! It was great to be just a few minutes walk to the beach. Our dogs loved it, too. Thanks for all the extras for our furry friends (treats and bowls). The house was comfortable and the hosts were very friendly and accomodating. We will definitely be back! Thanks for the wonderful vacation away from the Phoenix heat.

Location couldn’t be better, out the back gate and you're at the best dog beach in CA. Ocean Beach is definitely scruffy as are everyone’s dogs, it’s quiet (yes there’s airplane noise during the day (whadareyagonnado?) but it’s away from the fray of the city. There is no other town where dogs are so welcome as is this rental.
Greg and Clara’s attention to cleanliness and detail is terrific, so many thoughtful touches.Great place, thank you!

It was a great place for our dogs with an enclosed backyard. ~3 minute walk to the dog beach. ~10 minute walk to a lot of bars and restaurants in Ocean Beach. The hosts were communicative and the place was clean when we arrived.

This is a perfect place for bringing pups and enjoying a vacation! We brought two toddlers and our dog and it was great. Not having to do chores at check out was the absolute best!

This is a great location for dog beach. We have a large dog and so many places have limits. Our dog is a family member just as much as a small dog. Very much appreciate having them accept him with really no limitations.

The location of this rental - right on the path to Dog Beach - couldn't be better. The backyard is private, & a great place to hang out on a sunny day.
The house had everything we needed, & was comfortable. It's not glamorous or super stylish, & it's a bit dark & the rooms are small. However, it's comfortable, & if you're traveling with dogs, it's the kind of place where you don't worry about them shedding or walking in with wet paws.
So many things are provided here, including a dog wash station outside, with a dog shampoo dispenser! There are baskets of dog towels, as well as dog blankets to put on furniture. If you have spoiled dogs like we do, it's not realistic to keep them off the furniture. It was nice to have the blankets & sheets to put on the sofas, even though we bring our own.
This is truly Disneyland for dog lovers. In our week at this rental, we took our labs to the beach at least 3 times a day. We never saw any dog fights, or even growling. All the people were friendly, too, with a shared love of dogs that united us. With the San Diego River running down one side of the beach, it's great for swimming with minimal current.
The owner, Greg, was friendly, & gave us our privacy. He responded quickly when we had a problem one evening. Though they live above this unit, it didn't feel like they were too close, & though they also have a dog, he was never in the shared yard during our week there.
There are also a lot of human comfort items provided.

This is now our favorite place to stay when we need a beach fix and want to take the whole family, including the dogs. Perfect amenities (we appreciate the dog bowls and blankets), accurate description (the airport noise doesn't bother us), and what a great back yard and beach access! We loved watching the water birds in the slough, too. The whole city of Ocean Beach is dog-friendly, and everything we want is in walking distance. Greg and Clara are gracious and attentive property owners. We will be back again. And again!

It was the most amazing place ridiculously close to dog beach... once we went out the backyard to the walking path you can see the beautiful beach.... the weather was amazing for October.... you can walk to dog friendly restaurants within 15 minutes.....

This property was excellent. The owners thought of everything to make us comfortable including the dog-friendly part. They had dog toys, bowls, and even blankets. The house was immaculate, the backyard was inviting and comfortable, the beach indeed was as advertised, and the owners/hosts were highly responsive to questions and other communications. I LOVED this place and will definitely be back again! I highly recommend it!

The backyard has a hose and shampoo for dog washes after long walks on the dog beach.
The parking space was definitely tight- BMW 5 series barely fit. But parking was also available on the street.

Pluses: For dog lovers, you can't beat this location, right on an awesome off leash dog beach. Just be aware that planes take off over the house about once a minute during daylight hours. Host lives upstairs and was communicative and helpful.
Minuses: Only one bath. For the price, the place needs a little maintenance. Clothes dryer was broken. Water pressure in shower not very good. Would be nice to have a "welcome notebook" with explanations as to how to do things, places to go to eat and have fun, etc.

We have been coming to San Diego for year and always stay at Mission Beach. This was our first Ocean Beach stay and will be back for sure. Brought our 3 dogs with us and enjoyed every day letting them run around the beach steps out the backyard of this property. Nice secure backyard. Very comfortable home with enough room for all of us (4 people and 3 dogs) Carport fit my F150 with no problem. OB neighbors super cool and tons of great restaurants and shops walking distance. House has everything you would need and a lot of extras. Owners super cool and ensure there will be a great time for all. Thank you for sharing this special home with us!!!

Our experience was exactly what we hoped it would be...a private setting in a clean, accessible home right next to a beach where dogs are the star attractions
And Greg and Clara have clearly worked VERY hard to make sure every household item you could possibly need is at your fingertips
The absolute only thing we needed that we couldn't find in the house (and it's probably because we stopped looking) was dental floss!

If you want a wonderful place to take you and your dog on vacation, this is the place. Greg and Clara offer everything, from a dog wash station so you don't have to deal with sand in the house, to 'provided dog' towels to an unbelievable location from sunrise to later than sunset... this is the place. We loved the relaxed location and we were warmly welcomed by the hosts. There are beach chairs and coolers and even a corn hole board if you 'need it'. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely go back. Thanks so much !!

Positive aspects: Back entrance borders a large marsh area with walkways and a 10 minute walk to dog beach, lovely and very dog friendly. Owners have clearly attended to detail inside and kitchen & bathroom are lovely, although inside lighting is poor. Property is bottom unit with tenants in an upstairs flat. In marginal, crowded area with seedy motel on the block and unhoused individuals on path to beach. Security system is problem, no key or electronic lock on back door and back gate lock is easily accessed by reaching over the top. We allowed our 40 pound Goldendoodle to be in the "enclosed" backyard for a brief period and she went missing. A woman across the busy street was taking off with her in her car when she heard me yelling and said, "I have your dog" at which point she released her, allowing her to run across 4 lane boulevard to us. We still don't know how she got out to the street from the backyard, which does appear "enclosed," but back gate leading to beach path is a vulnerability and someone may have tried to take her. Our experience of the beach and location remains positive and we are so thankful Marley is safe and back with us but this part of it was alarming.

House is pretty small but it’s great for our handicap pups to walk to beach , they had great time , the place got everything that you need it , only thing was dryer doesn’t work so I can’t finish drying all towels before we leave, but for sure we will be back soon ! Really nice place ! Thank you !

The location is not directly on the beach but access to Dog Beach is a hop, skip, and a jump via a walking path behind the house.
The house is so comfortable and stocked with necessary supplies minus food and drink.
It's a walking neighborhood - the pier and Newport Ave is 1/2 mile away with small marts in between.
Awesome restaurants within walking distance - Kaiserhof (German restaurant) 1/2 mile down the street actually had schweinhaxe - delicious.
The seafood restaurants near the pier were fantastic - great food at very reasonable prices.
If we will return if we have a chance.

Hubby and I went for an anniversary getaway and brought our two small dogs. All amenities were provided; paper products; bath towels, shower products, and the kitchen had enough dishes, pots, pans, glasses, utensils, etc. There were even a few things in the pantry which came in handy before we could get to a grocery. Walking out the back gate to the path to watch the sunset, and relaxing on the patio was so enjoyable. The yard was perfect for the dogs. It's just a short walk to the beach. Parking our full sized truck in the carport was a challenge, but my husband carefully did it. There is street parking but it's across the street. The jet noise took some getting used to. It is a nice place and we had a great time. We would stay again. Thank you!

The property was very dog friendly, it really was steps to dog Beach so we could just open up the back gate and walk to the beach. They had towels and blankets to cover furniture to keep everything clean. Great rental!

We had an amazing time. We had no idea how close we actually were to dog beach and it was spectacular!! Waking up in the morning and having coffee on the patio, then taking the dogs to play on the beach was priceless. We left with full hearts and happy dogs. Can't wait to go back!
