About this house rental
Aloha! We are Keone and Yonnell Farias. We were both born and raised here on this wonderful island. We welcome you to our beautiful re-done home and would be happy to share with you our favorite places. Located in a quiet neighborhood of Waiakea Uka, we are a short 10-minute ride from the airport, 35 minutes to the Volcano, and just a few minutes from local grocery stores and eateries!
Like the house we grew up in..3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, open living room, nostalgic family room, kitchen opens to the dining room, huge yard with fruit trees, and beautiful local garden. A flag lot off one of Hilo's main streets leaves easy access yet privacy for your getaway.
There is a nice story behind Maunaleo, Keone would run pass this home from teen years to adulthood, he would always admire the fruit trees in the yard. One day a year ago, he saw it was for sale. We quickly called the realtor and put in a bid for it. We were blessed to get it. For a year we called it our "new, old house", our "work in progress". We talked to many of the neighbors who gave us the history of the place, we decided to keep some its nostalgic beauty. We put a lot of love, a lot of hard, long workdays, and it finally got to where it is. Now we'd like to share it with you!
We're sad to add this to our message to guests but care about your security and hard-earned money: We are a legally registered property, all bookings are only done on rental sites, we would not solicit through social media messaging. Please do not book or send money through them.

So comfortable and nice and clean

Such a lovely home located close to shopping and restaurants. Large bedrooms enough to accommodate my family of 5 adults more space if needed. The home was very clean, the kitchen well equipped.
We liked the covered vehicle carport. A plus on a rainy day.
The host communicated well answering questions and concerns. We would stay here again in the future.

We enjoyed the accommodations! It worked well for our two night trip to explore the Volcano National Park and the town of Hilo. Everything was as stated. Thank you for opening up your home to us. We would definitely stay again if in the area. Mahalo

The property was exactly as advertised and extremely clean and well-kept. The location was a little tricky, but the host’s instructions helped us find it easily. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and we had a great weekend stay.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It accommodated our family of five with plenty of space. The kitchen amenities and washer and dryer were great. It is set back off the road so we did not have any road noise. It does not have air conditioning but does have fans. With the windows open, there was great air flow and we did not need the AC. You can hear the frogs at night but we enjoyed it and it never kept us awake at night. The location was close to Walmart, restaurants, shopping, and a central location to explore the island. The owners promptly responded to any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again.

We had a wonderful stay at this house! The property was clean, check-in was easy, and the property had everything we needed. It was our first time on the island, and this home made our stay in Hilo a memorable experience!

Absolutely great home away from home! Fully functional home with amenities. Beautiful property with citrus trees, lots of chirpy frogs, and great access to all of Hilo. No air conditioning, but there are tons of windows and the cross breeze is so pleasant. Being in a neighborhood, there are quiet times which is so nice!

This property is amazing, inside and out. Though we didn't hang out in the yard, we appreciated the flowers and fruit tress on the property. My sister was especially enthralled with the anthuriums, they inspired her to visit the Farmer's Market and buy some to take back to O'ahu. The inside of the house had more than we needed! So much space yet we didn't feel like we were isolated from each other. We definitely had fun playing "Family Feud" every night, so much I had to remind my 'ohana to "Shush!!" and remind them of the Quiet Neighbor rules. The welcoming makana was much appreciated after spending hours on the road - mahalo!! Beds were comfortable, fans much appreciated when it got muggy. Weirdly enough the coqui frogs didn't bother us. We all adored the barn door in the master bathroom, it is gorgeous! We felt very much at home, very welcomed and appreciate the property owners sharing their home with us. We definitely will keep this property in mind for future trips to Moku o Keawe. Mahalo from the Kaleponi 'Ohana!!

Comfortable family home with everything you need to enjoy Hilo and the surroundings. Well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, large living room for kids to watch TV on mornings. Only thing be aware that frogs sing very loud at night. Some review mentions it’s calming but we found it hard to get use to it. My kids slept with ear plugs. Other than that, we appreciated our stay and the neighborhood is very calm and close to downtown.

It had a beautiful yard! And the carpet was really soft in the living room. Although there was LFA in the kitchen on the counter. At night we weren’t to worried about the coqui frogs making noise, sleep was not an issue. Beds were awesome to sleep on, very comfortable in all rooms! Traveling to downtown was fast and easy.

Our family stayed here and it was perfect for our needs: quiet, back from the main road, lovely fruit trees in the yard, coquis lulling us to sleep at night and so clean and well equipped with everything we could possibly need. Even a lovely little welcome bag from the hosts with local goodies. This was a long awaited vacation for us and our lodging in this sweet home did not disappoint. After long days out exploring the island, we came "home" to comfort and quiet. Would definitely recommend this home away from home to others!

When we arrived at this vacation home, we were greeted with some island treats. The home is very beautiful and the yard was filled with life. The kitchen was clean and it had what we needed to cook. I slept in the room that had 2 beds and it was comfy. Theres a 2nd living room/playroom that was perfect for us when we were jamming the Ukulele and playing cards. FYI You can find the cards in the kitchen drawer near the door.
This is an amazing place to stay when visiting Hilo, HI. So if your thinking about staying at this place, I highly recommend it. Also the owners are very friendly and welcoming. Mahalo Yonnell for your understanding and we will surely be staying here again.
We appreciate you--

The house was very nicely renovated but also homey and comfortable with a cool breeze at night. There was plenty of space for five unrelated adults to sleep in separate beds. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything we needed and there were plenty of bath and bedroom linens available. The hosts provided homey touches, such as a welcome bag of goodies and a book about themselves and the house. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return to the same house in the future.

As mentioned by other reviewers, the house had much more to offer in person than it looks like in the pictures. It was very clean and had all the amenities needed for our family of 5.
Our kids especially loved the board games, books and the breakfast bar area looking out into the serene back yard. I loved that cooking was made easy with all the cooking utensils one can possibly need. My husband most appreciated the boogie boards and the beach equipment along with fresh clean beach towels and mats made available to us. My mother-in-law loved the set up of the living and dining rooms where she could rest and read a variety of books about Hawaii the owners so attentively curated. Overall, we all agreed that we would love to come back to Hilo and stay here again!!

Perfect Spot in Hilo
We had a great time staying here! Yonnell and Keone were fantastic hots, supplying everything we needed for our time at the beach, suggestions of where to explore, and simple household things like laundry and dish soap. It was an easy drive into town, and roomie enough to fit our whole family. We will definitely stay again if we ever make it back to the Big Island!

We were excited about returning to Hilo to visit family and friends - Maunaleo made it feel like we were returning home!
We couldn’t have selected a better home for our visit. From our initial contact with our host - Yonnell - to our closing contact, her ‘Aloha Spirit’ was clearly evident.
Maunaleo was more than we expected - very clean, stocked with all condiments, all amenities needed for an extended stay, beautiful yard, lots of parking, and a convenient location to easily access all of Hilo or to drive up to the Volcano National Park.
Mahalo, Yonnell, for being a super host! Maunaleo is definitely a place to return to when we next visit Hilo.

Terrifically Typical
If you want to know what it might be like to LIVE in Hawaii, in Hilo, get this house! Plenty of room and every comfort! The neighborhood is just so... typical. It's great fun to get the fruit from the trees, be barefoot and live local.

Based on info provided, we thought the house would meet our needs. It wasn't hard to find and location was good for travel around the Hilo area and getting to the park. After getting there we were pleasantly surprised to find everything we could want. We only spent mornings and evenings there as we went out exploring, but felt like we could have spent more time at the house easily. Well apportioned with beds, entertainment, small appliances, kitchen, laundry. Would definitely stay again. It was hot there during the day, even in February. So hot summer days may challenging, but for our stay the nights cooled down and made for a very pleasant stay.
