The house was very well outfitted, especially the kitchen, we crabbed right out back, but no fish in there. There are steps, but not too steep.I would recommend this property for a nice relaxing vacation.

Property located on a quiet street
The Quaint Chincoteague Island Gateway was not pleasant. The pictures are deceiving. The home is in need of repairs, poorly lit, and not comfortable to vacation in. The main living room couch is in need of deep cleaning, it smells so bad that we had to scrub it with Resolve to make it bearable to sit in while covered with a comforter. The lock of one of the bathrooms’ door is a bungee cord (pictured), the bathtub’s faucet shoots water from the release pin (video), and there are several cracks on the walls. In addition, during my stay, for 2 days, I was not able to use the outside facilities, one day there were several men painting the outside steps of all the entrances and porches, and the next day, they were power washing the house from 10 am -3 pm. The 2 days the workers were there, they brought 2 big construction vehicles to the property (cargo can and a huge construction truck) blocking the driveway. I had to ask one of the workers to please move the vehicles so I can park on the side of the house. For these 2 days, it didn’t feel like a vacation but I felt like I was intruding in someone’s home. As a business practice, property owners shall not be allow to schedule non-emergency work while the property is being rented out, it’s not only inconvenient for the tenants that are vacationing, but it also outright ruining people’s vacations, which is how I felt. While I understand these maintenance tasks are needed, these should be scheduled when the property it’s not being rented out. I don’t appreciate the owner putting me in a situation of discomfort, inconvenience, and invading my privacy. I felt they took 2 days from my family’s vacation.

Really nice, private location with a deck overlooking the canal. Breezy porches, with comfy outdoor seating. Looks small, but lots of space for our family to spread out in bedrooms and living area, including closed in porch. Close to amazing Virginia beach - not too crowded after 3 or 4 pm. Lots of stuff to do in the area for kids, and not overcrowded, touristy like nearby Ocean City. Enjoyed decor - shells, country home feel, etc.
Top notch appliances - especially Washer and Dryer!
Suggest Snug Harbor Kayak rental - 5 minutes away - you can rent by the day or week and use in canal, or kayak off the rental place in a bigger bay.
I had some questions and did not get any response to my calls or emails.
Some lights were either not working or hard to figure out.
The following did not pose a problem, but could be an issue for others:
1. It's a lived in house - not perfect like a hotel room - this was a plus for us.
2. There is lots of 'stuff' lying around - this might not work if you have young kids who could get into stuff and mess the place up. It would be hard to put everything back in place.
3. Canal is not gated - could be an issue if you have small children. Apparently canal can be from 4 to 6 feet deep and not really swimmable.
4. The master bedroom is right off the closed porch - and the front entrance to the house - another door leads from the master bedroom to the kitchen entrance. So privacy can be a bit tricky.

Quiet and relaxing. Many porches to accommodate different times of the day. Lots of windows for cool breezes. No AC needed. Crabbed right along the house in the canal!
Hand to wash, dry, fold and put away all towels, washcloths and bed linens before leaving. Not as instructed in email check in instructions that informed us to leave unmade beds for the house keepers.

Great place, well equipped to enjoy leisure time (fishing the canal, a boat is available, reading outside in a comfortable hammock, wonderful walks on Assateague Island, wide Atlantic beaches, pony rides, boat and kayak rides...). We had a dense and enjoyable 5 day-stay with our three kids.
The brand new TV set didn't work! We would not have had time to indulge in it anyway!
