This was a nice 2 bedroom victorian house in historic Ferndale. Ferndale has a bunch of cool "butterfat" victorian homes from over 100 years ago. The charming quaint town is very safe. We had bikes locked to the truck rack. No fears of theft here parked in the driveway. I wouldn't feel the same about Eureka or Arcata. The house is a time piece decorated with historic photos and items. The bedrooms are beautiful. The claw foot tub is cooler to look at than to actually use, but there are no complaints. This is right next to the historic old town. An awesome option to Eureka or Arcata. Somethings are further away, but we are closer to the Avenue of the Giants and Eel River. Highly recommended.

A beautiful Victorian home in the heart of downtown Ferndale. Warm and comfortable. Historical furnishings, photos and decor. Has a claw foot tub instead of shower, so guest must be able to negotiate getting in and out of a large tub.

I booked the Little White House for a weekend away with my
Mother and daughter. Prime location making it so easy to walk half a block to main st. The home is very ornately decorated with loads of antiques and memorabilia of the town. Home was clean, and perfectly stocked with general cooking equipment. Only down side was the home was cold unless all heaters were running and there is no shower only a tub. Overall highly recommended!!!

Great place to stay and enjoy being part of the local area for a few days. The house is amazing with antiques and collectibles and pictures of the town as it was being built 150 years ago. Quiet, except when the fire alarms go off since it’s by a fire station would highly recommend to anybody that comes to the area.

We love Ferndale, so decided to spend a few days there on our California road trip. We saw the description of the White House and decided to stay there. It was a beautiful victorian which the owners updated....partially. Almost all of the windows are original. They are all single paned, which wasn't a problem. Ferndale is very quiet at night. The problem was that the windows had been painted shut. All the windows had signs on them saying they do not open. If this was disclosed in the description, we would have stayed elsewhere. The kitchen sink was a BIG issue. The hot water knob was not connected to the countertop. The owner is aware of this and leaves a note to renters to "be gentle" with the faucet. I would think with the money they are making from just our rental, they could afford to have the faucet and knobs correctly reinstalled. One of the real issues we had is that the White House should be called the Museum House. There are literally glass museum display cases, historical pictures on the walls and antiques all over in every room. If you have little kids, this is not the place for you. Too many things can break. Also, if you like to cook, no luck here since there is no oven in the White House. Last thing, check out the local pizza place, there is only one, and it is yummy!

Nicely appointed and uncomplicated. Liked the privacy of the courtyard where we enjoyed our wine. There were no disappointing surprises. And, loved its location in the heart of downtown Ferndale. We could walk anywhere within minutes.

Great location! Place was very comfortable. The only thing we would suggest is to get a shower curtain rail. We’ll be back.
Thank you.

The night we were supposed to check in, the area had a major earthquake. Power was off, and it was difficult, if not impossible to even enter the town so my reservation was delayed by one day. Fortunately, I was able to find alternate lodging.
The property manager was really helpful and able to get the place cleaned up from the earthquake so we could get in the second day once the power went on.
The house itself is charming and tastefully decorated. It is within walking distance to everywhere on Main Street Ferndale. The beds were comfortable and the place has every amenity necessary. We all loved the reading about the history of the house.
Ferndale is a must see for anyone traveling in the area. Having previously lived in Humboldt County, Ferndale is where we prefer to stay when we visit. I would highly recommend this property.

Perfect bungalow
The White House was one of my favorite rentals ever! It’s better than the pictures show. Very comfortable beds, quality linens, plenty of towels, extra blankets, and pillows. Spotlessly clean. Cozy living room, with so many interesting historical pictures and artifacts. The decor is over the top Victorian, in the best way. The kitchen has everything you would need, and two sinks. Full dining table & breakfast nook too. Huge tub with hand shower but no standup shower. Backyard with lots of seating to catch the sun or shade. Perfect location just steps from the best coffee shop. We came in winter during a cold spell, and the owner had electric fireplaces going in all the rooms to warm it up. A very kind & friendly touch. We would return!!

Wonderful old Victorian
We were so pleased to find this VRBO on short notice, and it was the perfect haven for us on our elopement trip to Ferndale. Easy to access and within walking distance to everything in downtown, we couldn't have found a better place. It's also meticulously decorated with period pieces and history from the early settlement of the town. It felt like staying in a museum, with quaint and comfortable furnishings and a super well-stocked kitchen as well. We highly recommend this listing for couples and families alike!

Wow! What a great location! Easy walk to the historical town with shops and restaurants. The house is located on a quiet street just off the main road. The home was cozy with lots of historical pictures and history regarding the surrounding area. The backyard is private with lots of sitting and and grill for cooking.
The kitchen is well equipped for cooking but needs new cooking pots and pans. The stove is old and takes a longtime to heat up, the back right burner no longer works. The dishwasher is old but they were there on our last day ready to install a new one. The place was not as clean as it should be. The cupboards had coffee spilled down them, cobwebs in the corner of the master bedroom ceiling and dust on a lot of the items. The bathroom has no shower but we knew this from the description of the home. With the water shortage that CA has been experiencing a shower should be installed. We were also left with only 1/2 roll of toilet paper and no extra rolls. We ran out in the evening after the grocery store closed. Also the garbage cans outside and the recycling were completely full. Thursday evening is when trash goes out but was missed so when we arrived on Friday there was no room for our trash. The mattress on the master bed is in desperate need of replacement, if you have any back issues you would not be able to sleep on this mattress.
In conclusion the house has great history, great location and is located on a quiet street. The house could benefit from a deep cleaning and some updating. Overall it was a good experience and will be coming back to this area again.

It was nice but a few cons
The location and area were great! Ferndale is a beautiful little walking town. The house was OK. It had a lot of character from a cosmetic point of view. The issues we had was that a lot in the house wasn’t cared for, the record player didn’t work, there wasn’t any coffee filters provided, the bathroom heater didn’t work, there wasn’t much in regards to kitchen equipment that wasn’t from the 70s and the movie section was horrible, thankfully we brought our Roku. You can tell that the house was quickly built solely for the purpose of renting it out, a lot of the house wasn’t even finished, I did however love all the pictures and the history of the house and the area, that was fun to look into. Quick note about the tub, the concept is neat and it was fun the first use but after that it was annoying, it would of been better if you could take an actual shower. Now with all that said, the manager of the place was amazing and assisted us when the internet went out. Now it might seem like I’m complaining a lot but all in all the stay was pleasant but the house needs a bit of TLC.

This house is very fun. The yard is spectacular, and we fell in love with this beautiful quiet town. We could not have picked a better place for our time in the Redwoods (which are also unbelievable)

Positives:
Charming & located in close proximity to all the shops along the main street. Safe neighborhood
Minor Negatives:
1) No-name master bedroom tv emits high pitch sound when off, had to unplug
2) No heater instructions in bedrooms
3) Dish washer detergent holder moldy
4) no bluetooth or USB connectable stereo enven though "Antique" looking stereo is newish. Component stereo beneath it is older and not USB/bluetooth compatible.
Bigger issues:
1) Master Bed side lamps, oddly are wall mounted 5' high on the wall and have small, hard to use switches. Use your phone flashlight if you have to get up in the middle oi the night
2) bath tub with shower wand has no no curtain. Charming for 1 minute otherwise a BIG hassle if you dont want a bath each day. A curtain and shower add-on would fix this
3) VERY LOUD no-name dishwasher!! Looking in between it and the cabinetry, it appears as though it was installed without it's sound insulation pad. Turn on in the morning when you leave NOT at night before going to bed - otherwise you will not sleep
4) master bedroom matress is shot, we rolled together when we got in it. Other bedroom mattress is EXCELLENT. Get the same one for the master bedroom.
Overall, these issues tell me the owners have not used this house themselves for a LONG time otherwise most if these problems would be fixed.
Would not use again until the bigger issues (at least) are fixed

Nice property- no shower!
Nice stay. The house is historical and very interesting. We enjoy the Ferndale area. The property manager is really great and helped us when we needed it. I have one large complaint and that is the property does not have a shower. It has a clawfoot tub that is it. Had I known there was no shower I absolutely would not have booked it. In my lifetime I haven’t stayed anywhere without a shower.Highly recommend to the homeowner that a shower is installed

We greatly enjoyed our stay here! Location couldn’t have been better - you can see the Victorians on Main Street from the front yard! The backyard was also a great little retreat - especially because we had our toddler with us and the fortune of great weather so we had breakfasts/lunches outside. The updates to this house are a little 90’s ish but it was still charming enough, just.. delightfully tacky? :)Took off a star because it could have been cleaner. Some dishes and pots/pans weren’t cleaned well and the floor was definitely not well moped. Which I might not have noticed if it wasn’t for my toddler who regularly drops food on the floor and then eats it.. so basically the unclean floor made me a little nervous.. especially in a time of COVID... and having to wash dishes before first use was a bit off putting.

This place is amazing with Victorian style decoration. My kids and I enjoyed our stay. Only one note is the location next to the fire station and sometimes the loud noise from the fire trucks really scared my kids.

Well-maintained historic home
Very well-maintained and decorated home close to shops, and restaurants. The home was clean and kitchen was well stocked. There were notes with instructions that were easy to find/useful. We were there during some hot days, so it was a bit hot in the house as none of the windows open (due to their age). Thankfully there is a screen-door we used to ventilate. Despite this, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend for a small family or couples/friends.
