About this cottage rental
Archers is a beautifully decorated and furnished historic, Cotswold-stone country cottage, formed from the renovation and joining of two cottages, one built in the 18th Century and the other built in the 19th Century. From the luxury wallpaper to the gorgeous objet d'art and artwork, all carefully chosen by Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe (who oversaw the renaissance of Sudeley Castle in the 20th Century), Archers will perfectly suit a group of friends or an extended family.
The cottage has a wrap-around gravel border, which opens out at the rear into a pretty garden, with mature trees and a patio with BBQ and outside seating. The garden runs down to Beesmoor Brook, which feeds into the River Isbourne running through Winchcombe.
Ground Floor
Porch:
Enter Archers through the front door, protected from the elements by a pretty wooden porch, and head into the hallway with its original stone flooring. Guests will find this is a handy place to remove outdoor footwear and hang coats.
Kitchen:
The dual aspect, fully equipped kitchen looks out over the front of the property and to the rear garden, with its view to Beesmoor Brook. The kitchen features a range-style Cuisinemaster oven with three ovens and a five-ring hob. A refectory-style table comfortably seats four for breakfast or serves as an additional preparation space. A dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer is provided along with all the utensils, food preparation equipment, crockery and glassware needed for a luxury, self-catered stay.
Dining Room:
The cottage's original flagstone floor, sturdy wooden beams and inglenook fireplace lend great character to the Dining Room, which comfortably seats eight around a long wooden table. The wood burner-effect fireplace provides a subtle background heat and gentle glow - without overheating diners!
Downstairs Cloakroom:
Under the stairs, off the Dining Room, is a handy downstairs toilet and wash basin.
Living Room:
The centrepiece of Archers is the beautifully bright yet cosy and stylish Living Room, with its wood burner fireplace, soft primrose coloured walls and delightful objets d'art and books chosen by Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe. The Living Room is furnished with two sink-in sofas, two armchairs, footstools and a coffee table with a wide-ranging collection of colourful reference books. To one side is a desk with a chair and table lamp, making it an ideal place to make notes, do some research or write a postcard. A card table is located under the window overlooking the garden, and large, flat screen TV is positioned above the fireplace. Starter logs and kindling are provided for guests' first fire. (Additional logs may be purchased from general stores and supermarkets in Winchcombe).
First Floor
Landing:
The fully carpeted landing is decorated with a rich blue, ornate, William Morris-style wallpaper, and features contemporary and antique paintings on its walls. There is a full-length mirror and large storage cupboard - ideal for placing luggage and where guests will find the travel cot, stairgate and highchair. At one end of the landing there is a one step up to Bedrooms 1 and 2, and, at the other end, one step up to Bedroom 3.
Bedroom 1:
At the far end of the Landing, straight ahead from the top of the stairs, is the ensuite master bedroom with king-size bed. The bedroom, with its restful duck-egg blue walls and accents of taupe, overlooks Castle Street from the bedroom and the cottage courtyard entrance from the ensuite shower room. The room is furnished with a king-size double bed, bedside tables, with touch-sensitive reading lamps, a double wardrobe, a luggage rack, antique armchair and a chest of drawers with a large mirror above. The ensuite has a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a toilet, wash basin with mirror (and shaver point) and a heated towel rail. (Note: there is one very small step down into Bedroom 1 from the Landing).
Bedroom 2:
The soft-yellow walls and contrasting exposed beams make this bedroom a delightfully calm and inviting room, featuring a super king-size bed, bedside tables and touch-sensitive reading lamps, a double wardrobe, luggage rack and antique chair. The ensuite has a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a toilet, wash basin with mirror (and shaver point) and a heated towel rail. Bedroom 2 can be set up as a twin on request.
Bedroom 3:
The creamy ochre walls of Bedroom 3 create a warm and inviting ambience. This bedroom has views out over the garden towards Winchcombe through the Velux window, set in the sloping celling with its original oak beam. Bedroom 3 features a super king-size bed, hand painted, antique bedside tables and touch-sensitive reading lamps, luggage rack and an antique armchair. Bedroom 3 can be set up as a twin on request.
A second door leads through to a dressing area, with double wardrobe, to another door that leads into the bathroom shared with Bedroom 4.
Bedroom 4:
Archers' twin bedroom features twin beds on original Victorian metal bed frames with a shared bedside chest of drawers and ornate reading lamp. A striking block print wallpaper with hares and thrushes creates a feature behind the beds while a rocking chair beckons you in to sit and rest. (Note the beds are slightly higher than beds on standard frames.)
A second door leads through to a dressing area, with double wardrobe, to another door that leads into the bathroom shared with Bedroom 3.
Family Bathroom:
Sitting conveniently between Bedroom 3 and 4, the private, Shared Bathroom features a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a corner bath with hand-held shower for hair washing, a toilet, wash basin with vanity unit and extendable mirror and a heated towel rail.
Outside
From the front of the cottage, a gravelled border wraps around the side of the cottage (overlooking Castle Street) to the rear where guests have access to a large garden laid to lawn, with mature trees and a patio with outdoor seating for eight. A path leads down to a wooden picket fence, which borders Beesmoor Brook that feeds the River Isbourne as it runs through Winchcombe. Please note that the fencing provides a secure barrier to prevent children from accessing the brook. However, the side garden is raised and open, which is a potential fall hazard for young children. Therefore, please ensure children are not left unattended in the garden.

The location is amazing, you can walk into the village and to the castle. Lovely area. Cottage was very well kept. The oven is very slow.

Archers Cottage was very comfortable and well appointed. Comfortable beds, nice linens, charming town

We used the cottage as accommodation for our bridal party before my wedding and we were so pleased with how clean, quaint and lovely the cottage was. The kitchen was well equipped and the information regarding check in and check out was great. Only thing that could make it easier would be more precise address to give to taxis as they did struggle to locate the cottage.

A very enjoyable stay in a well equipped, comfortable and well presented property on the edge of Winchcombe.

We had a really lovely January stay at Archers Cottage. It was super cosy with the log burner on and the staff were really helpful in accommodating our requests. Gorgeous cottage in a gorgeous location - will defo be coming back.

A perfect stay - great layout for a group of friends, particularly ground floor with the generous linked kitchen, dining and living areas. Very close to the village centre, and several long walks from the door step. Everything you could need - very comfrtable and relaxing.

From the moment we entered the cottage we loved it. It was very clean, beautifully decorated and in a great location. The rooms were plenty big enough for our group of 7 friends and the kitchen had everything we could have wished for, the welcome pack for an initial cup of coffee or tea was most welcome as were the logs for the log burner (with a shop selling more kindling and logs within a 3 minute walk).
The beds were very comfortable and the showers terrific, we could not fault it.
My wife and I hope to return to one of the smaller cottages next summer to take advantage of seeing Sudeley Castle and Gardens which unfortunately are closed from October to March.
Overall a great stay at a reasonable price.

This was our second visit to the same cottage. It's location is ideal. As a place to stay for 3 couple it's super, each having a bathroom. Winchcombe has everything you need, free entry into the castle is bonus.
Welcome pack could be better, generic tea, coffee and packet biscuits. An acknowledgement as a repeat customer would also be quite nice.
The cottage still had the same maintenance issues as the year before, mirror in the bathroom very loose, kick board under the dishwasher catching and the dishwasher was loose. Cottage looked a little tired, marks on the walls.
We were 6 adults, the ironing board and childs high chair really could have been put away instead on inside the fire place.

We took our 2 grown up children plus the family of one and the partner of the other. So 8 in all and 2 dogs. Lots of space for all of us in this very well equipped cottage. The cottage was in excellent condition although the bedroom doors can be a bit creaky and there is some traffic noise for the 2 front bedrooms. We had some problem getting the heating to work initially. The boiler was in the roof and the pressure was low. But on a Sunday night 2 cheerful maintenance men turned out and fixed the problem.
If this cottage is typical and I’m sure it is, then it is an excellent choice. The Castle and town are only a few minutes away with lots of walking opportunities from the doorstep.

It is a lively house and very well equipped. A lot of thought has gone into making it comfortable. It is in a really good position with a lovely garden too

Great place to stay literally in the town but didn't feel like it loads of space in the property so you weren't on top of each other.
Glad we could take dog as there was loads of walks around the area, garden was great but not fully fenced in so needed to be mindful when dog was out in garden with us.
That being said it was a great place to stay and the town of Winchcombe was lovely with nice pubs to eat and drink but the kitchen in the property was brilliant if you want to cook for yourself.
3 double bedrooms with ensuite and a room with 2 single beds so that was great as well as you don't get that in many places.

We love staying in those cottages , have been for each Fantasy Forest Festivals, from smaller ones to the larger ones. They are beautiful and the location is ideal. Very practical with parking, love the BBQ and garden . Each decors beautiful and in keeping . Only little negative, for a cottage for 8 people such a tiny fridge, same size as a cottage for 4 people, also there is never enough loo rolls but at least we remembered to bring some along . Last feedback : miroirs, one in each room would be so useful, especially for the rooms that share a bathroom . Stunning place to stay and cannot wait to return . Checking in is also super easy.

We stayed at Archers for a joint birthday family weekend. The cottage was very well appointed with a good welcome pack and was an excellent size and layout for our party of 7 adults and a dog. The cottage was very close to the town so easy access to the pubs/restaurants and shops and great position for lots of walks so no need to use the cars. An excellent time was had by us all and we would definitely stay again.

Seamless stay in wonderfully appointed cottage in the grounds of Sudeley Castle. Excellent location / 2 min walk into town and 5 mins to castle. Very well equipped, thoroughly clean and comfortable.

We had a lovely time at Archers it is very nicely decorated and positioned for Winchcombe, the castle and surrounding area. We had a slight issue with the heating which was mostly too hot! And could definitely do with a bigger fridge with eight people staying. The twin beds in one room were so high my tiny mother in law would have needed a ladder!

Lovely cottage with the addition of Sudeley Castle on the door step.
Winchcombe has all you need for a small getaway. Its location is excellent for exploring the Cotswolds.
Cottage was clean and tidy, although a couple of “attention to detail” repairs need to be made, not sure where to report these.
Wonky / unusable bathroom mirror in family bathroom, baseboard on dishwasher and dishwasher need fixing in place, light switch in one of the bedrooms and some cosmetic touch ups. Bedrooms could do with mirrors for makeup, hairdryer use.

Good access to Sudeley Castle and Winchcombe. Comfortable, well equipped cottage and pleasant garden. Perfect for family holiday.

We adored our stay at Archers! It's a charming cottage with enough rustic "character" to give us a quaint Cotswold experience but enough modern amenities to make for a very comfortable and easy stay. It was the perfect size for our group of four, and we enjoyed making meals in the lovely (large!) kitchen. The garden is very nice, and the location within 5-minute walking distance to Winchcombe (and an easy walking distance to Sudeley Castle) was perfection. One thing to note is that the cottage is attached to other cottages in a little courtyard, so it's not stand-alone. We liked that setup, as the neighbors were quiet and it felt very safe. Our only minor complaint was that the mattresses were a little firm for our taste. Otherwise, all was great and we would certainly recommend and stay again.

A beautiful and comfortable base
My favourite so far of the Sudely Castle cottages. Very roomy and comfortable, beautifully fitted out and having so many bathrooms worked perfectly for our little group of friends attending an event at the castle.
The only slight criticism was the fridge size, for a house accommodating 8 people, the fridge was very small!

Walking and chilling in the Cotswolds
A lovely property in an excellent location. Park the cars on arrival and no need to use them again until you leave. Archers is very well equipped and has some “extras” not found in most holiday lets. Mirrors in some of the bedrooms would be useful, hairdryers need a very long lead to see in bathroom mirrors! Free entry to Sudeley Castle is a fabulous bonus. We’ll be back.

Walking group holiday
Archers is a lovely cottage with all the amenities you need. The garden is a lovely place to relax after a day spent walking. The lounge area was very spacious. The only minor problem was a lack of space to store food supplies. We cleared one cupboard of cooking utensils so that we could put our food away. The barbecue was an added bonus and much bigger than we expected. The cottages are very well located in the heart of Winchcombe and within walking distance of shops and pubs. A great location to be based for walking.

Well located and appointed place to stay
The house is charming - well appointed, with basics and some luxuries provided. Lots of space for family to gather, eat, talk. Kitchen was large enough to manage making meals for six adults. Bedrooms were comfortable, distinct and charming. Lots of oak beams and olde worlde features as you'd expect but careful modernisation. The location is excellent in terms of walks from the doorstep and going into the heart of the village (good range of pubs but watch restaurant opening days). Parking was plentiful. Only slight negative was the at the garden is not fully enclosed so we had to keep a careful watch of our lab. But that was a minor point. Everything else was fab and we will be back.

Wonderful relaxing weekend for a family celebration
We booked the cottage for a family celebration - it was perfect, everything went to plan, even the weather. The location was spot on - we went round the castle and gardens - and the cottage itself was very well equipped with plenty of absolutely everything for eight people. The only thing we would have liked was more fridge space as we had a few extra guests during the day on Saturday! Winchcombe itself was picturesque and we found everyone in the town to be welcoming and friendly. We would defintely book again.
The Welcome Pack was really informative!

Lovely cottage in a perfect spot
The house is clean, well equipped and tastefully furnished. It also has a large attractive garden. It is located a very short walk from both Winchcombe High Street and Sudeley Castle, to which entrance is free if you stay here. Both Winchcombe and the castle are charming. A lovely place to stay, with much to see in the area. Highly recommended.

Perfect location in beautiful Winchcombe
Great house, close to glorious walks, with the benefit of free entry to Sudeley Castle and grounds. My sisters, husband and I thought it an excellent place for a short holiday.

A Beautiful House in a Superb Location
We had a wonderful family get together at Archers. The downstairs rooms are ideal with a sizeable dining area and an attractive, spacious living room. The kitchen is well equipped, the kitchen table means that this is yet another lovely room to enjoy a cup of tea and cake!
Upstairs there are comfortable bedrooms and 3 bath/shower rooms.
The location is excellent, we could walk from the front door. The town is just a couple of minutes walk up the hill and we enjoyed a wander round, the deli was particularly inviting. In the evening, we had a lovely meal at one of the pubs.

Wonderful place to stay for Christmas
Archers Cottage was perfect for our Christmas stay. The rooms were really comfortable (especially the beds!) and it was great they had ensuites. The kitchen was well equipped and the range oven great for cooking Christmas dinner. It was exactly as described and the owners really helpful. Winchcombe was also an excellent base for the Cotswolds.

Stay at Archers cottage
A comfortable cottage sleeping up to 8 with 3 doubles and 2 single beds. Heating is very good and keeps the cottage nice and warm. 2 dogs can be accommodated. There is a lawned garden at the back which would be lovely in the warmer months, however there is a drop to the road so young children need to be supervised. There is a chained fence but it is not adequate. Comfy sofas inside the cottage which is quite spacious. The kitchen does not have enough storage space for 8 people. The fridge is small. Cupboards are full of pans so you have to fit dry food alongside. There is a pantry but it is full of crocks. Wooden and stone floors downstairs, carpeted upstairs. I would stay again as it is very comfortable and because of the location.

Derbyshire friends getaway weekend
We were a group of 4 quite picky couples in our 50’s and 60’s but despite numerous cobwebs around (that must’ve been there some time…) we found the property very clean, comfortable well maintained and equipped. Lovely spot and took advantage of free entry to the castle which was very interesting. Couple of niggles were lack of mirrors in bedrooms ( only one in bathroom but tricky drying hair) and insufficient comfy seating for 8 adults ( 2x3 seater sofas and one armchair leaving one unlucky person on a hard dining chair)

Archers Cottage
Beautiful house, inside and out. I have stayed in a couple of properties on the Sudeley castle estate and none have ever disappointed. The property is maintained and furnished to a high standard without losing the relaxing feel of a holiday break. This property has only one negative. It is located adjacent to a lane leading out of Winchcombe past the castle entrance. This lane is busy and you will hear the cars (morning rush hour, evening coming home) especially in the two bedrooms that look onto the lane. If you are used to hearing cars-fine. If you have come for complete quiet-this may not be the house for you.

I wasn’t able to go into this cottage
We booked two cottages via Bolthole in Winchcombe for a family celebration. My wife and I, with one of our daughters and family, were in one. My other daughter and family, my son and partner, and my brother and sister-in-law were in the other (14 Vineyard Street). The guidance we were sent in advance of arrival was quite clear that we weren’t allowed in each other’s house, so I’m afraid there is nothing I can say really about Archers cleanliness, comfort or condition (- and this form won’t let me leave them blank). Customer service was good (- this was a rearranged lockdown booking) but, as with the other cottage, our three day booking meant we only had access to the cottage for 42 hours in reality, hence the vfm assessment.

Archers cottage in Winchcombe
Archers cottage at Sudeley Castle is a truly lovely cottage, spacious, great location, a short walk to Winchcombe with its good range of independent shops and cafes. There is a bus service into Cheltenham and it is easy to drive to many other attractions and there are many walks with good views.
The cottage was well equipped, clean and suited the multi age family group - 3 months, 2, 30's and 60's. The garden was lovely to sit in and parking was easy.
The bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms were comfortable and showers/bath provided good hot water with plenty of towels for each guest.
My only comment would be that each of the adult guests did not find the mattresses on the beds comfortable and where available had to put spare duvets over the mattress toppers.
I would recommend this cottage and would stay there again.

Beautiful house in pretty little town
Four days spent in the beautiful property, Archers in Winchcombe.
The property was spotlessly clean, with lovely soft sheets and towels in spacious bedrooms.
The kitchen was well equipped but the broken shelves in the fridge made storage for 8 guests a bit tricky.
Parking for a large group was very generous and a free visit to Sudeley Castle included in the cost of rental made it extremely good value.
Would highly recommend a visit to this lovely old house.

Super location and the potential to be an excellent property with some additional features.
As a family of six, we stayed in Archers at Sudeley Castle for one week in August. The location of the property was excellent, with free access to Sudeley Castle, and overall the property was good with plenty of space, however we felt that there were a few points that could be improved on for people wanting to rent the property for more than a couple of nights. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped but there was no cupboard space to store food and the fridge was very small if you are trying to cater for eight people. The beds were all firm, and whilst there was some hanging space within built-in wardrobes the storage space for clothes was very limited, again not a problem for a short stay. The showers were all excellent with plenty of hot water. The garden was lovely, plenty of parking nearby and lots of walking trails on the doorstep. One other minor point was there was only one key for the property. We would happily stay at this property again as overall we had a great holiday in this home.

Lovely cottage close to the village centre
We have had a wonderful stay at Archers Cottage. The cottage is very clean and tidy with newly updated bathrooms and lovely powerful showers. Good size bedrooms, very useful to have our own showers and toilets too. The garden is a good size with a huge bbq which we put to good use on a sunny evening! Only area for improvement would be that the garden is not fully secure to the side so we had to keep an eye on our dogs/put them on lead whilst they were outside. Fantastic location, a short walk into the village town centre with a tasty bakery, pub, fish and chip shop and quaint shops for souvenirs etc. Fantastic that you can get free access to Sudeley castle and gardens included in the stay, which is a lovely touch. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would certainly recommend to others. Thank you!

80th Birthday Celebration
We stayed at Archers to celebrate my Mum's 80th birthday and it is a wonderful cottage. As it was a very hot weekend we spent nearly all the weekend outside in the garden. However, there is a path that has gates either side at the bottom of the garden and we later discovered that this was used by people in the village on a regular basis. We had 2 dogs with us so this was not ideal and there is no mention of this in any of the details. I have emailed the company and have not had a response - I would seriously consider not booking here if you have children that may be in the garden as it is clearly not acceptable to have "strangers" walking through the garden.
